The Stage Is Set: A Play In Three Acts, Michael Paul Carlin
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The writer's primary aim is to create a piece of literature. The playwright also aims to create literature by means of the techniques of playwriting Thus, constructing drama, this writer was concerned with plot and dialogue to produce literature. "The Stage Is Set" is a three act play which shows us the struggle of a drinking man and his relationship with other people. Alcoholics particularly have to admit their alcoholism to other people. The Philosophy Of Love In Selected Dramas By Paddy Chayefsky, Bettie Lou Hoos
The Philosophy Of Love In Selected Dramas By Paddy Chayefsky, Bettie Lou Hoos
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
A study of the dramas developing the theme of love by contemporary dramatist, Paddy Chayefsky, discloses his philosophy of love to be the essence of meaningful life. His nine plays depicting this concept may be divided into three categories according to the type of love they portray: philotheistic, romantic, and conjugal love. The Tenth Man, Gideon, and The Passion of Josef D., representing philotheistic love, reject man's ability to love God. The highest love he ls capable of is that for his fellowman. In his romances, Middle of the Night, Marty, and the secondary plot of Holiday Song, a a …
The Song Of The Righteous: An Historical And Literary Analysis Of The Latter-Day Saint Hymnal, Ruth Alene Thomson Symons
The Song Of The Righteous: An Historical And Literary Analysis Of The Latter-Day Saint Hymnal, Ruth Alene Thomson Symons
Theses and Dissertations
The hymnal of the Latter-day Saints first proposed only shortly after the organization of the Church and published continually every few years between 1835 and 1871, is a remarkably accurate indicator of the changing fortunes and beliefs of the early Saints. The first hymnal, gathered by Emma Smith, uncompromisingly sets forth the basic Mormon belief in man's free agency, his innate perfectability, and his kinship to his Heavenly Father. Later editions reflect the missionary concerns of the church (1840), the tremendous persecution the saints are subjected to (1841), the Church difficulties after the martyrdom of Joseph Smith (1849), the call …
The Ecology Of Middle Earth, Marcella Juhren
The Ecology Of Middle Earth, Marcella Juhren
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Analysis of Middle-earth’s environmental equivalents to our world, by climate and dominant vegetation. Notes that Tolkien’s descriptions of the ecology of his Secondary World must be based on “years of close and thoughtful observation of nature”—particularly when describing transitions from one ecological niche to another. Concludes with an “ecological report” on Middle-earth. Covers geography, geology, and plant life in great detail.

The Existential Elements In The Poetry Of Wallace Stevens, Patsy Satterly
The Existential Elements In The Poetry Of Wallace Stevens, Patsy Satterly
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study will deal with such existential elements in Stevens' poetry. The poetry will be treated in three main divisions: the early period of Harmonium (1923); the middle period of The Man With the Blue Guitar (1936), Ideas of Order (1937), and Parts of a World (1942); and the late period of Transport to Summer (1947) and Auroras of Autumn (1950). Two introductory chapters will precede the actual study of the poetry; one is a chapter on existentialism as it is expounded by Sartre and Camus, and the other is a description of the existential bias in Stevens' mind, in …
Sentimentalism In Dreiser's Heroines, Carrie And Jennie, Daryl Cumber Dance
Sentimentalism In Dreiser's Heroines, Carrie And Jennie, Daryl Cumber Dance
English Faculty Publications
Theodore Dreiser is usually hailed as a pioneer of American realism who freed American literature from Victorian restraints, from nineteenth century idealism and optimism, and from the ever-present moralizing of domestic sentimentalism. It is interesting to note, however, that this shockingly modern trailblazer not only stands at the dawn of a new era in literature, but also at the twilight of the old, for in Dreiser is a mixture of both the new realism and naturalism and the old sentimentalism that had dominated American literature from its inception.

A Dose Of Double Dactyls, Diverse Hands
A Dose Of Double Dactyls, Diverse Hands
Tolkien Journal
This delightful verse form was introduced to the world by Esquire magazine and to us by Mrs. Deborah Rogers in a poem published in Orcrist #2. That effort inspired a flurry of double dactyl composing on the part of members of the U. W. Tolkien Society, and such of our verses as seemed both most meritorious and most free from in-jokes are here foisted on our unwary audience. Caveat lector: we have not always kowtowed to the strict rules stipulated above; and we have sometimes indulged our deep affection for puns.
