Debord's "Society the Spectacle" and Delouze’s Deleuze's "Society of Control" both imagine a dystopian future for humanity in a world governed by excessive self-advertisement and mass surveillance. This thesis begins with the observation that, sadly, their two visions have become a reality. Current technologies log our movements through GPS satellite data, and photographs taken by closed-circuit security cameras, or by passers-by on a public street, are constantly cross-checked against databanks of previously-compiled biometric profiles. Through a series of spaces sited in the South Unit of the Badlands, South Dakota for the Oglala people of the Pine Ridge Reservation, this proposal will be an experiential and spiritual journey echoing the religious practice of the Ghost Dance, which contributed to the Wounded Knee Massacre killing 250 Native Americans in 1890. Results of a demographic survey of Louisiana neighborhoods adjacent to petrochemical plants indicated that both deep-rooted environmental issues and social inequity are an inherent part of many communities. The strong affluence of pilgrims in monasteries and sanctuaries since the Middle Era, determined a veritable culture of hospitality, which was manifested by the building of new spaces dedicated to guest quarters. This research investigates in detail some meaningful examples amongst the main Italian sanctuaries - namely: Vicoforte and Oropa (Piedmont), Tirano (Lombardy) and Loreto (Marche) - looking at the solutions adopted to host the wayfarers: the hospitality spaces which characterised architecture dedicated to pilgrims between the Middle and the Early Modern Ages. Once a prosperous cultural urban center in the Mississippi River delta, but now the nation’s second fastest shrinking city, Pine Bluff (population: 42,700) is Arkansas’ Detroit. Indeed, a study of black wealth conducted by famed sociologist W. E. B. Du Bois in 1899 found that Pine Bluff had the fourth highest rate of black wealth in the nation behind Charleston, Richmond, and New York City. The school’s community design center prepared a downtown revitalization plan, Re-Live Downtown Pine Bluff, a housing-first initiative focused on building neighborhoods around downtown “centers of strength”. More than three million Americans experience homelessness annually. Emergency shelter capacity is limited while local governments are unable to provide even temporary housing. Informal housing involving interim self-help solutions are now popular adaptive actions for obtaining shelter despite nonconformance with city codes. Unfortunately, most informal solutions have resulted in objectionable tent cities and squatter campgrounds where the local response has simply been to move the problem around. Our homeless transition village plan prototypes a shelter-first solution using a kit-of-parts that can be replicated in other communities. Willow Heights is a 43-year old public housing complex owned by the Fayetteville Housing Authority (FHA) within the federal public housing portfolio administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The school’s design center was commissioned by a local foundation to study an alternative to the FHA’s plan to sell the downtown Willow Heights complex to a developer of high-income housing, necessitating relocation of low-income residents to another complex outside of downtown. Using equity as a driver of decision making, the studio introduced scenario planning to organize reluctant stakeholders in considering transformations to the five-acre complex.

The occurrence and distribution of tetracycline (TC) and sulfamethazine (SMZ), and the corresponding antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) were investigated in six agricultural sites in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region in southern China. Irrigation water and irrigated soils at two different depths (0-10 and 10-20cm) were analyzed. The total concentrations of TC and SMZ in irrigation water ranged from 69.3 to 234ng/L and from 4.00 to 58.2ng/L, respectively, while the total concentrations of TC and SMZ in irrigated soils ranged from 5.00 to 21.9μg/kg and from 1.30 to 4.20μg/kg, respectively. Compact cities and their urban forms have implications on sustainable city development because of high density urban settlement, increased accessibility, and a balanced land use mix. This paper uses quantitative means of understanding urban morphological characteristics with reference to the differing qualities of the urban form (i.e., street patterns, building volumes, land uses and greenery). The results, based on 89 neighborhood communities of Hong Kong, show varying degrees of regional differences in the urban built form supported by numerical statistics and graphical illustrations. Specifically, this is a critique of the Trust’s narrative of nationalism, which is overlaid by the use of romantic interpretive themes. โบราณสถานเขาศรีวิชัย อำเภอ พุนพิน จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี เป็นสถานที่ที่มีคุณค่าความสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์และศาสนา เป็นแหล่งโบราณคดีที่มีอายุตั้งแต่พุทธศตวรรษที่ 11 ถึง 13 ซึ่งกรมศิลปากรได้ประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนโบราณสถาน เมื่อวันที่ 27 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2479 เริ่มทำการสำรวจและขุดค้นทางโบราณคดีเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2541 พบว่าโบราณสถานบนยอดเขาศรีวิชัยมีความเกี่ยวข้องกับศาสนาพราหมณ์-ฮินดูและศาสนาพุทธ ปัจจุบันกรมศิลปากรขุดค้นไปได้ประมาณร้อยละ 80 เหลือแต่เพียงการบูรณะโบราณสถาน งานวิจัยนี้ดำเนินการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลทางด้านประวัติศาสตร์โบราณคดีเขาศรีวิชัย สังคม และวัฒนธรรม เพื่อทราบถึงความสำคัญของพื้นที่โบราณสถานเขาศรีวิชัย นำมาเสนอแนวทางในการอนุรักษ์ภูมิทัศน์สำหรับโบราณสถานเขาศรีวิชัย จากนั้นลงพื้นที่ด้วยวิธีการสำรวจลักษณะทางกายภาพบริเวณเขาศรีวิชัย และสัมภาษณ์ประชาชนและหน่วยงานในท้องถิ่น เพื่อทราบถึงศักยภาพและปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่ และเสนอแนวทางการพัฒนาพื้นที่และแก้ไขปัญหาต่อไป วิทยานิพนธ์เล่มนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเสนอแนวทางการอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาภูมิทัศน์สำหรับโบราณสถานเขาศรีวิชัย สามารถสรุปเป็นแนวทางได้ดังนี้ 1) กำหนดแนวกันชนพื้นที่บริเวณโบราณสถาน 2) ขุดลอกคลองเดิมเพื่อให้การระบายน้ำในพื้นที่ดีขึ้น 3) พัฒนาเส้นทางการเข้าถึง 4) กำหนดเขตพื้นที่ห้ามก่อสร้างอาคารที่มีผลกระทบต่อมุมมองและควบคุมการก่อสร้างอาคาร 5) เสนอแนวทางการจัดการพื้นที่อำนวยความสะดวกเพื่อรองรับนักท่องเที่ยวในอนาคต เพื่อรักษาคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์และลักษณะภูมิทัศน์วัฒนธรรมของพื้นที่นี้ให้คงอยู่ต่อไป

การวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับระบบภูมินิเวศของพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึง โดยเป็นพื้นที่ที่มีพลวัต ความหลากหลายเชิงนิเวศ และความอุดมสมบูรณ์ อันเป็นผลมาจากพลวัตน้ำหลาก ซึ่งให้ประโยชน์แก่มนุษย์ในรูปแบบของการบริการเชิงนิเวศทั้งการเป็นแหล่งผลิตทรัพยากรพื้นฐาน และการสนับสนุนระบบเศรษฐกิจชุมชน โดยการประยุกต์ใช้เทคนิคการสำรวจระยะไกลด้วยภาพถ่ายดาวเทียมเพื่อ (1) ระบุขอบเขตของพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงแม่น้ำมูลตอนกลางเพื่อบ่งชี้ลักษณะพลวัตน้ำหลากของพื้นที่ จากลักษณะทางธรณีสัณฐาน และลักษณะเชิงอุทกวิทยา (2) ศึกษาการเปลี่ยนแปลงของลักษณะสิ่งปกคลุมผิวดินจากอดีตถึงปัจจุบันจากการจำแนกสิ่งปกคลุมผิวดิน ร่วมกับการลงพื้นที่สำรวจชุมชนดั้งเดิม เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพลวัตน้ำหลากกับการใช้ประโยชน์ของมนุษย์ และผลกระทบจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์โดยมนุษย์ที่ส่งผลกระทบทางลบต่อการบริการเชิงนิเวศ ผลการศึกษาพบว่ามนุษย์ในพื้นที่ลุ่มแม่น้ำมูลตอนกลางมีความสามารถในการปรับตัวอย่างยืดหยุ่นเพื่อใช้ประโยชน์จากพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงภายใต้เงื่อนไขของพลวัตน้ำหลาก จากการเลือกที่ตั้งชุมชนที่อยู่นอกเขตพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงน้ำท่วมในฤดูน้ำหลาก และใช้ประโยชน์อย่างสอดคล้องกับพลวัตน้ำหลากจากพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงในฐานะแหล่งทรัพยากรของชุมชนที่สามารถใช้ประโยชน์ได้ตลอดปี ซึ่งมีรูปแบบการใช้ประโยชน์ที่แตกต่างกันทั้งพื้นที่ และช่วงเวลา นอกจากนั้นการเพิ่มขึ้นของพื้นที่เกษตรในพื้นที่ราบน้ำท่วม และการดัดแปลงโครงสร้างของแหล่งน้ำธรรมชาติเพื่อเพิ่มปริมาณการกักเก็บน้ำ และป้องกันผลกระทบจากน้ำท่วม ทำให้แหล่งทรัพยากรของชุมชนมีพื้นที่ลดลง และระบบนิเวศเสียหายจนไม่สามารถให้บริการเชิงนิเวศได้เหมือนเช่นเคย ส่งผลต่อความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีของมนุษย์ และระบบเศรษฐกิจชุมชนในชนบทที่พึ่งพิงการบริการเชิงนิเวศจากแหล่งทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ

นิคมอุตสาหกรรม คือเขตที่ดินซึ่งจัดไว้สำหรับให้โรงงานอยู่รวมกันอย่างเป็นสัดส่วน แม้ จะมีกฎหมายด้วยการขออนุญาตจัดตั้งนิคมอุตสาหกรรม แต่ประเด็นส่วนใหญ่มักกล่าวถึงมาตรฐาน ด้านวิศวกรรมเป็นหลัก และขาดการคำนึงถึงประเด็นทางภูมิสถาปัตยกรรม งานวิจัยนี้มี วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยในการวางผังนิคมอุตสาหกรรมภายใต้ข้อพิจารณาทางภูมิ สถาปัตยกรรม ในพื้นที่ภาคกลางตอนล่างและภาคตะวันออก เพราะเป็นแหล่งที่ตั้งของนิคม อุตสาหกรรมจำนวนมาก งานวิจัยนี้ดำเนินการวิเคราะห์ลักษณะธรณีสัณฐานในพื้นที่ภาคกลางตอนล่างและภาค ตะวันออกของประเทศไทย และข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับนิคมอุตสาหกรรม เพื่อหาความต้องการและ ข้อจำกัดของพื้นที่ นำมาสรุปเป็นปัจจัยในการวางผังนิคมอุตสาหกรรม จากนั้นลงพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูล นิคมอุตสาหกรรมสมุทรสาคร และนิคมอุตสาหกรรมแหลมฉบัง ซึ่งเป็นตัวอย่างนิคมอุตสาหกรรมใน พื้นที่ภาคกลางตอนล่างและภาคตะวันออก ด้วยวิธีการสำรวจพื้นที่และสัมภาษณ์ผู้ที่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้อง เพื่อนำปัจจัยมาวิเคราะห์หาศักยภาพและปัญหา และเสนอแนวทางแก้ไขต่อไป ผลการวิจัยพบว่า มีปัจจัยที่ใช้ในการวางผัง 2 ด้าน ได้แก่ 1.การเลือกที่ตั้ง พิจารณาจาก ปัจจัยทางนิเวศวิทยา ทรัพยากร เศรษฐกิจ และชุมชน 2.การวางผังบริเวณ พิจารณาจากปัจจัยทาง ธรรมชาติ ปัจจัยที่มนุษย์สร้างขึ้น และปัจจัยทางสุนทรียภาพ ซึ่งจากการวิเคราะห์กรณีศึกษาทั้ง สองแห่ง สรุปได้ว่า มีการเลือกที่ตั้งที่เน้นด้านเศรษฐกิจและทรัพยากรเป็นหลัก ส่วนการวางผัง บริเวณ นิคมอุตสาหกรรมทั้งสองแห่งสามารถวางพื้นที่ใช้สอยให้สอดคล้องกับสภาพภูมิประเทศ แต่ ละเลยการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ และการออกแบบเพื่อส่งเสริมมุมมองในส่วน ต้อนรับ เป็นต้น

การปรับปรุงคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ศาลากลางจังหวัดนนทบุรี (หลังเก่า), ชาลิสา บุญมณี

ศาลากลางจังหวัดนนทบุรี (หลังเก่า) ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นโบราณสถานโดยกรมศิลปากร ในปี พ.ศ. 2524 จากการขยายตัวของเมืองส่งผลให้ทัศนียภาพโดยรอบโบราณสถานแห่งนี้สูญเสียคุณค่าด้านความงามทางภูมิทัศน์ไปอย่างรวดเร็ว วิทยานิพนธ์นี้จึงมีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อนำเสนอแนวทางการปรับปรุงคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ของศาลากลางแห่งนี้ โดยจากการวิเคราะห์และประเมินคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์พบว่าจุดมองสำคัญของโบราณสถานแห่งนี้มีจำนวน 5 จุด และได้นำเสนอแนวทางการออกแบบปรับปรุงคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ของจุดมองดังกล่าวออกเป็น 3 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ รูปแบบการจัดระเบียบ รูปแบบเรขาคณิต และรูปแบบสวนสาธารณะ จากนั้นจึงได้สร้างภาพจำลองแสดงการปรับปรุงคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ของแต่ละจุดมองตามแนวทางดังกล่าว ทั้งนี้เพื่อนำไปใช้เป็นภาพตัวแทนภูมิทัศน์สำหรับการประเมินคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ของจุดมองภายหลังการปรับปรุงในแบบสอบถาม โดยผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามแบ่งออกเป็นกลุ่มคนทั่วไป คนในพื้นที่ และผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์ จำนวนกลุ่มละ 40 คน รวมทั้งสิ้น 120 คน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า รูปแบบสวนสาธารณะเป็นแนวทางที่ได้รับการประเมินว่ามีความสวยงามสูงที่สุด รองลงมาคือรูปแบบเรขาคณิตและรูปแบบการจัดระเบียบตามลำดับ โดยกลุ่มผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์มักประเมินความสวยงามของภาพตัวแทนภูมิทัศน์ต่ำกว่ากลุ่มคนทั่วไปและคนในพื้นที่ ดังนั้นจึงนำเสนอว่าการปรับปรุงคุณภาพเชิงทัศน์ศาลากลางจังหวัดนนทบุรี (หลังเก่า) ด้วยการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์ในรูปแบบสวนสาธารณะ ประกอบกับการลดพื้นที่ดาดแข็งและเพิ่มพื้นที่ปลูกต้นไม้เพื่อเพิ่มความร่มรื่น การจัดแบ่งพื้นที่เพื่อส่งเสริมกิจกรรมการพักผ่อนหย่อนใจหรือการออกกำลังกายสำหรับคนทุกเพศ ทุกวัย จะสามารถช่วยส่งเสริมความงามของภูมิทัศน์เมืองและเพิ่มคุณค่าของโบราณสถานแห่งนี้อีกด้วย
