Território Brincapé (TB) - Community Space for Free Play was a seminal project in Lisbon designed to deliver weekly play sessions to 112 children between 6 and 10 years old, for 1.5 hours during school time, at a private sandpit just outside a school. TB was developed under the ethos of playwork practice and was conceptualised as an adventure playground. This is a report of how we navigated this endeavour, focusing mainly on the perspective of the playwork practitioners. This dissertation investigates the impact of visual stimuli, particularly green walls, on human responses related to stress, restoration, and thermal comfort. The research is guided by three primary objectives: (1) examining the role of visual stimuli and their properties in promoting stress recovery and restoration, (2) evaluating the potential of Immersive Virtual Environments (IVEs) as tools for delivering and studying restorative environments, and (3) investigating the influence of green walls on indoor environmental conditions.

Neighborhood greenspaces are widely known to benefit bird diversity and human mental health. However, whether bird richness mediates the relationship between greenspace and mental health is unknown. We ascertain such mediation effects in 294 census tracts in Los Angeles City. We obtained greenspace data from one-meter resolution satellite imagery, bird species data from eBird citizen science datasets, and prevalence of poor mental health from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mediation analysis combined with spatial error models was used to assess the mediating effects while controlling for geographic, demographic, and socio-economic factors. Domestic violence is a nationwide crisis affecting millions of women each year and saw an increase in severity during the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2022). In Georgia, 37.4% of women report experiencing physical violence by an intimate partner. The situation is especially dire in rural areas, where women experience 150% more incidents at a more intense level than their urban counterparts and must travel three times farther to access resources. The acequias of the upper Río Grande are more than just irrigation canals. They also allocate and manage water for the community of landowners in the system. After four centuries of use, the acequias persist into modern times with their founding principles intact: self-government, local autonomy, internal rules for operating procedures, and a strong sense of mutualismo or communal responsibility. They have endured since Spanish colonial settlement and have maintained continuity of a water culture surviving political-administrative changes under three sovereigns, Spain (1598-1821), Mexico (1821-1848), and the United States (1848-Present). สวนสาธารณะเชิงนิเวศ (Ecological Parks) คือรูปแบบสวนที่ได้รับการพัฒนาขึ้นในประเทศตะวันตกตั้งแต่ต้นสหัสวรรษใหม่เป็นต้นมา คุณลักษณะสำคัญคือมีการออกแบบที่เน้นความยั่งยืนของระบบนิเวศและการเรียนรู้ธรรมชาติ ในปัจจุบันมีการสร้างสวนสาธารณะเชิงนิเวศขึ้นบ้างแล้วในประเทศไทย แต่ยังไม่มีการศึกษาพฤติกรรมการใช้สวนรูปแบบนี้มาก่อนว่ามีความแตกต่างจากการใช้สวนสาธารณะรูปแบบเดิมที่เน้นประโยชน์ใช้สอยและสุนทรียภาพอย่างไร ดังนั้นงานวิจัยนี้จึงมีเป้าหมายเพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการใช้สวนสาธารณะเชิงนิเวศ โดยพิจารณาความเชื่อมโยงกับลักษณะการออกแบบสวน พื้นที่ศึกษามีทั้งหมด 3 แห่ง ได้แก่ 1) สวนเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 80 พรรษา คุ้งบางกะเจ้า 2) สวนเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว พระชนมพรรษา 7 รอบ เขตบางบอน และ 3) สวนเบญจกิติ ในแต่ละสวนจะกำหนดพื้นที่สำหรับสังเกตพฤติกรรมผู้ใช้ 3 จุด ที่มีลักษณะการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์แตกต่างกัน โดยจะบันทึกข้อมูลในรูปของแผนที่พฤติกรรม (Behavioral mapping) งานวิจัยนี้ใช้แบบจำลอง The Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พฤติกรรมการใช้สวนสาธารณะเชิงนิเวศนั้นสัมพันธ์กับลักษณะการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์ โดยเฉพาะพื้นที่ที่มีการออกแบบให้มีความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพและมีคุณค่าด้านระบบนิเวศกลายเป็นสิ่งเร้าที่ส่งผลต่อกระบวนการรับรู้ ตลอดจนการตอบสนองด้านพฤติกรรมการใช้งานอย่างชัดเจน กล่าวคือ พื้นที่ที่ปลูกพืชพรรณหนาแน่นจะมีการใช้งานเบาบางที่สุดและมักจะเป็นระยะเวลาสั้นๆ ดังนั้นการออกแบบภูมิทัศน์ควรคำนึงถึงความสมดุลของพฤติกรรมการใช้งานของมนุษย์และความยั่งยืนของระบบนิเวศ เพื่อกระตุ้นให้เกิดการศึกษาเรียนรู้ธรรมชาติมากขึ้นตามวัตถุประสงค์สำคัญของสวนสาธารณะเชิงนิเวศ

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประสิทธิภาพของระบบทางเดินเท้าภายในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม โดยประยุกต์ใช้ทฤษฎีโครงสร้างเชิงพื้นที่ (Space Syntax Theory) ร่วมกับการประเมินสภาพแวดล้อมที่เอื้อต่อการเดิน เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์สภาพปัญหาทางเดินเท้าภายในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม และเสนอแนวทางการพัฒนาที่เหมาะสม การศึกษาครอบคลุมพื้นที่ 1,300 ไร่ ของวิทยาเขตขามเรียง ซึ่งรองรับประชากรกว่า 40,000 คน ประกอบด้วยนิสิต คณาจารย์ และบุคลากร โดยมีระเบียบวิธีวิจัยใช้การวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน มีการสำรวจภาคสนามเพื่อประเมินคุณภาพทางเดินเท้า 51 จุด ครอบคลุม 5 โซนหลักของมหาวิทยาลัย การประเมินพิจารณา 4 องค์ประกอบ ได้แก่ (1) การเชื่อมต่อ (2) การเข้าถึง (3) ความปลอดภัย และ (4) ความสะดวกสบาย แล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์เชิงปริมาณ เพื่อคำนวณค่าการบูรณาการเชิงพื้นที่ จากการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ประสิทธิภาพทางเดินเท้าภายในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม สรุปได้ว่า สภาพทางเดินเท้าส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในระดับวิกฤต โดยองค์ประกอบด้านการเข้าถึง และความปลอดภัย มีค่าเฉลี่ยต่ำสุด สะท้อนถึงการขาดการออกแบบที่คำนึงถึงผู้ใช้ทุกกลุ่ม การวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างค่าบูรณาการ กับ ประเมินความสามารถในการเดิน พบปรากฏการณ์ความขัดแย้งเชิงพื้นที่ คือพื้นที่ที่มีศักยภาพการเข้าถึงสูงกลับมีสภาพทางกายภาพที่ไม่เอื้อต่อการเดินและการจัดลำดับความสำคัญการปรับปรุง สามารถจำแนกพื้นที่เป็น 4 กลุ่ม ตามลำดับความสำคัญในการพัฒนา โดยกลุ่ม A (9 จุด) เป็นพื้นที่เร่งด่วนที่ต้องพัฒนาเป็นลำดับแรก การปรับปรุงประสิทธิภาพการเดินเท้าภายในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคามโดยใช้หลักการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมที่เอื้อต่อการเดินนี้ จะช่วยลดการพึ่งพายานพาหนะ ลดมลพิษ ส่งเสริมสุขภาพ และสร้างบรรยากาศการเรียนรู้ที่มีชีวิตชีวา แต่ความสำเร็จต้องอาศัยความร่วมมือจากทุกภาคส่วนในการสร้างและรักษาสภาพแวดล้อมที่เอื้อต่อการเดิน เพื่อให้มหาวิทยาลัยเป็นต้นแบบของการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืน

Fair Park, a neighborhood of South Dallas, has experienced historical displacement, urban neglect, and pedestrian safety inequities, especially along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (MLK Blvd). This boulevard is a vital entryway to Fair Park and a center for local businesses, attracting significant foot traffic. However, it currently lacks essential pedestrian safety improvements.
