ในปัจจุบันมีความเข้าใจอย่างกว้างขวางว่า ในการอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมจำเป็นต้องเข้าใจสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบแหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรม (setting) มากกว่าการพิจารณาตัวอาคารแต่เพียงอย่างเดียว อีกทั้งโครงสร้างมรดกวัฒนธรรมประกอบจากพื้นที่ที่มีความหลากหลายและมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างเป็นพลวัต รวมถึงความสัมพันธ์ของสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบแหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรม สิ่งต่าง ๆ เหล่านี้ สามารถเป็นที่มาของการตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นบนสภาพแวดล้อม เพื่อการนำเสนอ (presentation) และการสื่อความหมาย (interpretation) ของพื้นที่แหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรมได้ โดยวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ถือเป็นกรณีศึกษาที่สำคัญในเรื่องการศึกษาสภาพแวดล้อม เนื่องจากเป็นพื้นที่ที่มีการตั้งถิ่นฐานของผู้คนมายาวนานกว่า 250 ปี ประกอบกับบันทึกและเอกสารต่าง ๆ ที่ค้นพบ ช่วยให้เข้าใจสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบของพื้นที่ได้อย่างดี การวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์หลักฐานชั้นต้นต่าง ๆ ของวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) อันประกอบด้วย แผนที่เก่า ภาพถ่ายในอดีต เรื่องราวของผู้คนที่มีการบันทึกไว้ และงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผู้วิจัยนำหลักฐานเหล่านี้มาใช้ในการวิเคราะห์สภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) เพื่อนำเสนอเรื่องราวที่มีคุณค่าของสภาพแวดล้อม และปัจจัยที่ส่งเสริมให้เกิดคุณค่าของสภาพแวดล้อมที่เคยดำรงอยู่ในอดีต มาใช้ในการนำเสนอและการสื่อความหมาย จากการศึกษา ผู้วิจัยค้นพบว่าวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) มีเรื่องราวที่มีคุณค่าและควรได้รับการสื่อความหมายที่จะช่วยให้เข้าใจถึงสภาพแวดล้อมวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ตลอดเวลากว่า 250 ปี ได้อย่างดีจำนวน 5 เรื่องอันประกอบด้วย บ้านสำโรง ค่ายแม่พระลูกประคำ Notre Dame du Rosaire บุ่งกุ่ยและกุหลาบ และ กาลหว่าร์และวัดสาขา สภาพแวดล้อมเกิดขึ้นจากองค์ประกอบต่าง ๆ ทั้งที่มองเห็นได้และมองเห็นไม่ได้ ซึ่งมีความสัมพันธ์กันเกิดเป็นสภาพแวดล้อมขึ้นโดยมีอาคารโบสถ์วัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) เป็นอนุสรณ์สถานที่บอกเล่าเรื่องราวความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้คนที่ดำรงอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมได้อย่างสมบูรณ์ และส่วนท้ายงานวิจัย ผู้วิจัยเสนอแนวทางในการนำเสนอและสื่อความหมายสภาพแวดล้อมออกเป็น 2 ด้าน คือ ด้านกายภาพ และด้านสังคม และข้อพิจารณาแนวทางในการสื่อความหมายผ่านแก่นเรือง ซึ่งจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของประวัติศาสตร์และสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ต่อไปในอนาคต

หอผู้ป่วยใน กรณีอาคารสูงในโรงพยาบาลของรัฐเป็นอาคารสาธารณะที่มีความเสี่ยงที่จะเกิดความเสียหายหากเกิดเหตุอัคคีภัย เนื่องจากอาคารมีผู้ใช้งานเป็นจำนวนมากและอยู่ในอาคารเป็นระยะเวลานาน ประกอบด้วยผู้ที่มีความสามารถในการช่วยเหลือตนเองหลายระดับ ทั้งผู้ที่สามารถช่วยเหลือตนเองได้ปกติ จนถึงผู้ที่ไม่สามารถช่วยเหลือตนเองได้เลย นอกจากนี้ปัจจุบันกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยเป็นเพียงมาตรฐานขั้นต้นที่ครอบคลุมลักษณะอาคารทั่วไปเท่านั้น ทำให้ไม่มีความสอดคล้องกับประเภทและลักษณะเฉพาะของการใช้งานอาคารหอผู้ป่วยในซึ่งมีความแตกต่างกับอาคารประเภทอื่นๆ การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสอดคล้องของกฎหมายกับการออกแบบและใช้งาน สาเหตุและปัญหาในการออกแบบและใช้งานเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยหอผู้ป่วยใน กรณีอาคารสูงในโรงพยาบาลของรัฐ มีวิธีดำเนินการวิจัยคือ 1)ทบทวนวรรณกรรมเกี่ยวกับหอผู้ป่วยใน กฎหมาย มาตรฐาน และหลักการเกี่ยวกับการอพยพหนีภัย 2)ศึกษาและวิเคราะห์เส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยจากแบบก่อสร้างทางสถาปัตยกรรม จำนวน 23 อาคาร 3)สัมภาษณ์และสำรวจเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัย จำนวน 7 อาคาร โดยสัมภาษณ์ 3 กลุ่ม คือ ผู้ออกแบบ ผู้ใช้งาน และผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ 4)วิเคราะห์ข้อมูล เพื่อสรุปผลการวิจัยและเสนอแนะ จากการศึกษาพบว่าในการออกแบบเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัย ผู้ออกแบบใช้กฎหมายเป็นมาตรฐานขั้นต้น ซึ่งข้อกำหนดในกฎหมายบางส่วนยังไม่สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานสากล และบางส่วนยังไม่สอดคล้องกับการใช้งานเมื่อมีการซ้อมอพยพหนีภัย โดยผู้ออกแบบได้ออกแบบตามกฎหมายและบางส่วนมีการคำนึงถึงเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยตามมาตรฐานสากล แต่การออกแบบเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยยังไม่เป็นมาตรฐานเดียวกันทั้งหมด เนื่องจากการขาดความรู้ความเชี่ยวชาญในเรื่องความปลอดภัย ตลอดจนข้อจำกัดต่างๆที่ส่งผลต่อการออกแบบ ทำให้การออกแบบเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยที่ครบถ้วนยังไม่ได้แสดงให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนในแบบก่อสร้างทางสถาปัตยกรรมของอาคาร ในการใช้งานเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัย ผู้ใช้งานมีการวางแผนปฏิบัติการระงับอัคคีภัยและการซ้อมอพยพหนีภัย ซึ่งถูกกำหนดตามความเข้าใจของผู้ใช้งาน การใช้งานเส้นทางอพยพหนีภัยในเวลาปกติพบว่าผู้ใช้งานมีการปรับเปลี่ยนการใช้งานบางอย่างที่อาจส่งผลต่อการอพยพหนีภัยเมื่อเกิดเหตุฉุกเฉิน ซึ่งเกิดจากการที่ผู้ใช้งานไม่รู้วัตถุประสงค์ของการออกแบบ แต่เมื่อมีการซ้อมอพยพหนีภัยจะมีการจัดเตรียมพื้นที่ก่อนซ้อมอพยพหนีภัย ทำให้เกิดความไม่สอดคล้องกันระหว่างการอพยพหนีภัยหากเกิดเหตุการณ์จริงกับการซ้อมอพยพหนีภัยที่ใช้งานพื้นที่ตามการออกแบบ

I explored foodways of adults on the autism spectrum in order to understand how they negotiate and navigate their food environments. Foodways are beliefs and practices involved in food production, preparation, distribution and consumption (Counihan 2008). In an effort to hear marginalized voices in autism discourse, I conducted an online survey and interviews in modes chosen by participants to accommodate the communication needs of a wide range of autistic adults. ABSTRACT: Thermal mass indicates the ability of a material to store and release heat and is a function of the heat storage capacity of a material. The thermal mass of construction materials can be used to reduce the energy required for heating and cooling buildings. The heat storage capacity of concrete can be increased by incorporating phase change materials (PCMs) into the concrete and hence providing additional latent heat storage capacity. A project based senior project, the Far West Floating Dock Project included the design, procurement and construction of two 20’x 20’ floating docks for the Lake Nacimiento based nonprofit Far West Water Ski Club. Constructed of polyethylene coated floats, 4x Pressure Treated lumber, hot-dipped galvanized hardware and composite decking, the dock is designed to have a lifespan of at least 35-40 years. This case study provides an overview of the complete project delivery, beginning with the conception and research, transitioning to design and procurement, and finishing with construction and lessons learned.
