Advisory committees are a ubiquitous, yet understudied feature of the administrative state. More than seventy-five thousand experts from out-side the federal government serve on over one thousand committees across the Executive Branch, providing agencies with informed “second opinions” to complement their in-house experts in the civil service. By law, these committees must be “fairly balanced in terms of the points of view represented.” Yet little is known about whether advisory committees live up to this standard, under what circumstances agencies utilize these panels, and how advisory committees influence agency decisionmaking.

Businesses that reopen amid the COVID-19 pandemic face potential legal liability to customers and workers who contract the coronavirus through those enterprises’ operations. Federal and state lawmakers are actively considering proposals to narrow or expand such liability. These proposals have important economic and public-health implications. This article presents an analytical framework for evaluating liability regimes in the context of a communicable disease. The framework highlights the contrasting public-health consequences of liability before and after a customer or worker is exposed to the virus. This thesis examines recent successful efforts by the Wiyot Tribe in Humboldt County, California to resist and reverse forms of settler-colonial oppression with tangible and unprecedented results. The original inhabitants of Humboldt Bay: the Wiyot, and their allies in the local community, have overcome settler socio-political resistance in three contentious, public disputes to preserve and restore tribal sovereignty over ancestral land and culture. Incest is known in Anthropology as a social construct that is defined as the prohibition of sex or marriage between certain genetic or affinal relatives. It was once believed that incest was an instinctually avoided behavior in humans, but that hypothesis is no longer supported. Because incest is a culturally constructed idea, the specific nature of its defining boundaries changes across cultures. The growing movement of “death positivity” started by mortician Caitlin Doughty has been educating the American public about funeral alternatives that advocates believe are better for survivors of the deceased as well as the environment. I analyze past criticisms that have influenced Doughty to craft the death positive movement’s ideals and discuss these in terms of capitalistic greed as well as death denial culture. Ethno-symbolism is the study of nationalism through symbols and myths. Anthony D. Smith argued that nations are created from the shared memories of a core ethnie. This thesis applies Smith‘s framework to the Venetian population in Italy. Modern Venetians based their national identity on the Myth of Venice, positive memories about the independent Republic which existed from 697-1797. Venetian national identity developed in three waves. First, the Myth was molded from a cultural explosion in the face of political decadence during Il Settecento (Eighteenth Century). Prostitution is a controversial service which went through periods of legalization and criminalization in American history. The main problem is a social taboo which considers prostitution to be morally wrongful and a social nuisance. After the Progressive Era, Congress outlawed sexual acts it deemed immoral using Commerce Clause powers. Since the sexual revolution of the 1960s, legislation regulating sex devolved to the states. Currently, prostitution is banned in forty-nine states. Roe vs. Wade, a landmark case in which the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion, has been recently challenged. Species monitoring, population assessments, and behavioral observations of many endangered marine mammals are typically limited to surveys of animal surfacings due to the challenges of detecting and tracking individuals that usually live in remote areas. This study demonstrates the benefits of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, as a noninvasive and low-cost method to monitor and observe Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) populations. Before Godel's incompleteness theorems, logicians such as Bertrand Russel and Alfred Whitehead pursued an ideal axiomatic system which would have created a reliable framework to successfully prove or refute every mathematical sentence. Godel proved that such systems can never be created. In fact, Godel's incompleteness theorems establish that axiomatic systems that are complex enough to formulate arithmetic can never generate a proof of all the logical statements that are expressible inside of them. The diamondback terrapin ( Malaclemys terrapin ) is the only exclusively estuarine turtle. Terrapins live in coastal mangroves and salt marshes ranging from Massachusetts to Texas. While previous studies have documented the diet of terrapins in temperate salt marshes, the diet of the Florida East Coast terrapin subspecies ( M. terrapin tequesta) living in mangrove habitats is largely unknown. Other diamondback subspecies feed on a variety of prey categories, with plants, gastropods, and bivalves being the most dominant, depending on the subspecies. This thesis explores linguistic behavior as a manifestation of collective consciousness via the incorporation of theory from psychology, sociology, and philosophy into an analytical framework for studying consciousness. The relationship between history and social science generally, as well as history and criminology specifically, has long been considered problematic. But, since the likes of Burke (1992) and King (1999) spoke of a ‘dialogue of the deaf’, crime history has rapidly expanded and, more latterly, historical criminology has begun to emerge. This article reappraises the relationship of the subject areas by considering the impact that historical research has had on criminology. Although the impact is found to be somewhat patchy, the article identifies positive signs within the two fields that might point towards a more mutually-enriching future.

Using the Science Citation Index-Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection, we analyzed global saffron research literature published between 1991 and 2017. The variables examined were research performance of nations, institutions, and authors. The study noted that the distribution of author keywords, citations, and publication patterns of saffron related articles to ascertain the research inclinations. The highly cited articles and author keyword analysis showed that the chemical and biochemical qualities of saffron were of key interest for the researchers.
