A random sample of 156 reentry women at Belleville Area College were surveyed, via questionnaire , on their reasons for being in school , goals associated with education, and campus support services utilized or desired. The results indicated that reentry women wanted to become better educated primarily to learn new skills or update skills for employment in a meaningful job. Radiologists miss about 25-30% of all pulmonary nodules smaller than 1.0 cm. in mass screenings. A system for the automated detection of the pulmonary nodule based on that of Hallard has been designed, tuned, and tested on a 43 chest radiographs [Ballard, 1973). The goal of this system is to aid the radiologist in locating a pulmonary nodule by indicating a few sites in the radiograph that are most likely to be nodules. A lenticular film system designed to suppress image degrading crossover during dual screen radiographic exposure is proposed and evaluated. The lenticular screen consists of two sheets of crossed cylindrical lenslets each with a frequency of 25 lenslets/mm. A numerical analysis via optical ray tracing compares the theoretical frequency response of the proposed system to that of a conventional radiographic film. It shows an enhancement in the response by a factor of two, for frequencies 1-4 c/mm. Experimental measurements made on simulations of the proposed system using Kodak film type, SO-241 confirm the predicted improvement in the mid-frequency range. The proposed …

CC1F2N0, CC1F2N0, CC1F2N02 and CC12FN02 were prepared and purified in the laboratory. Three methods for the preparation of chlorodifluoronitrosomethane were evaluated: 1) decarboxylation of the sodium salt of chlorodifluoroacetic acid in the presence of nitrosyl chloride, 2) nitrosation of chlorodifluoromethanesulfenylchoride and 3) photolysis of bromodichlorofluoromethane in the presence of nitric oxide. The vapor phase decarboxylation of the sodium salt of chlorodifluoroacetic acid in the presence of nitrosyl chloride gave chlorodifluoronitrosomethane with the highest yield and purity. Because the sodium salt of dichlofluoroacetic acid was not available to utilize in a similar manner, dichlorofluoronitrosomethane was prepared from the reaction of dichlorofluoromethanesulfenylchloride …

Six mercury cadmium telluride targets (5.74 cm diameter) with six polycrystalline (Hg_0.8 Cd_0.2 )Te ingots (1 x 3 x 0.7 cm ± 20%) epoxied on them, were r.f. sputtered in an MRC-8800 triode system for 1, 2, 3, and 5 minutes. The six sputtering runs were made with 3 different Hg pressures of 1.0, 1.25, and 1.6μm while the uniform target power density was kept constant at 7.7W/cm². After sputtering a target, Br₂ +CH₃OH was used to chemically etch the sputtered ingots to different depths. The surface composition of the etched ingots was …

The purpose of this thesis work was to provide soft ware in Fortran programming language that will read, print and process data contained on Landsat computer compatible tapes. The programming was done on the Xerox Sigma 9 computer at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The processing involved reading and re-registering fractions of files and performing simple numeric operations on the digital spectral radiance values of individual picture elements. The result was a fraction of a Landsat scene containing pixels that are classified as vegetation, water, mixed elements or invariant features.

Other researchers implicate pH as a major factor in the deterioration rate of paper and acidity as major the cause of this deterioration. During the lithographic printing process, ink is in direct contact with fountain solution, which can be acidic or alkaline. Fountain solution is a mixture of water and chemicals used to keep the non-image areas of a lithographic plate moist. Previous work has shown evidence that some emulsion stabilizers can prevent rearrangement of adsorbed silver sulfide to a photographically active form. Full gold plus sulfur sensitization may be achieved by simultaneous introduction of the sensitizers or by adding gold after sulfur sensitization. As gold sensitization of an already optimally sulfur-sensitized emulsion may instead involve a direct chemical reaction, the effect of stabilizers on gold sensitization may not parallel their effect on sulfur sensitization.
