Processing continuous video streams can be computationally expensive and may lead to information loss with fixed-rate sampling techniques. A content-aware filtering system for adaptive video sampling may utilize a set of parallel analysis components to examine a video stream in real-time for factors such as scene changes, motion, semantic content, and latent feature similarity. Based on the aggregated output of these components, the system can select information-rich keyframes for downstream processing. A selected keyframe may be paired with a temporal timestamp. This article examines the identity photographs taken by Marc Garanger as a site of Kabyle women’s resistance in the Algerian War. Over the course of 1960, Garanger moved between various wartime displacement camps across Kabylia, photographing indigenous people for the production of identity cards––a crucial from of colonial population control. Since its publication, Garanger’s Femmes algériennes has become an ambiguous symbol of resistance in the Algerian War, largely due to the subjects’ perceived antagonistic posture and gaze. This article analyzes the vocal, musical and literary strategies Algerian Kabyle singer and writer Taos Amrouche employs to determine the place voicing holds for her in contexts of colonization, exile and migration. I demonstrate through her singing career and her 1975 autobiographical novel l’Amant Imaginaire, that within the ambivalences stemming from her birth in Tunisia to exiled Kabyle Christian converts and her emigration to France, Taos Amrouche’s singing voice provides a space where those ambivalences can co-exist. This paper presents the first corpus study of the semantic and syntactic features of active, actor emphatic, and passive constructions in Cook Islands Māori, a Polynesian language of the Cook Islands. Using computational techniques, including Universal Dependencies parsing, this project identifies and evaluates these constructions in corpus data. The actor emphatic construction is of particular interest because it is only found in Eastern Polynesian languages. However, it has historically been difficult to study due to its cross-linguistic variability and relative infrequency. Wildland-urban-interface (WUI) fires in the US are increasing in frequency and intensity with disproportionately large impacts on air quality and human health. In January 2025, the Palisades and Eaton wildfires swept across the Los Angeles Basin, burning residential areas and destroying vegetation. Despite their significance, WUI fires remain understudied compared to wildland fires, especially in regard to emissions composition. Here, I utilize a combination of field samples, modeling, and remotely-sensed datasets to survey the emissions profiles and variations during the 2025 Palisades and Eaton wildfires. Background: Baseline lymphopenia is common among advanced solid tumors and may influence the efficacy/safety of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), but large real-world evidence is limited. We evaluated the association between baseline absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and clinical outcomes in adults with solid tumors treated with ICIs in routine practice. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study using TriNetX. Adults with solid tumors who received pembrolizumab, nivolumab, or atezolizumab (ICI-Naïve) between January 2015 and June 2026 were included. Baseline ALC was measured within 30 days before first treatment and was classified as lymphopenic (ALC < 1.5 × 109/L) or non-lymphopenic (ALC ≥ 1.5 × 109/L). Propensity score matching (1:1) yielded 5249 patients per group. The index date was the first immunotherapy date, and outcomes were assessed at 6, 12, 24, 36 months, and 5 years. The primary outcome was 24-month overall survival (OS); secondary outcomes were OS at 6 and 12 months and 6-month risks of healthcare utilization, immune-related adverse events (irAEs), and serious infections; and exploratory outcomes included OS at 36 months and 5 years. All outcomes were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analysis, Cox proportional hazards models, and risk ratios. Subgroup analysis included OS stratified by solid tumor subtypes and prior lines of therapy. The other is a felony-murder rule for the lesser offence of simple murder, 2903.02(B). In felony-murder cases prosecuted under Ohio Revised Code § 2903.02(B), the nearly universal practice among the lower courts in Ohio is to ignore certain explicit text in the statute.

This thesis explores music composition as the design of “playgrounds”: structured systems that invite participation, interaction, and the emergence of shared musical experience. Drawing on a background in engineering and a practice rooted in improvisation and community, I investigate how compositional authority can be exercised through the creation of constraints instead of fixed outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic constituted a systemic stress test for global health governance, exposing structural and institutional weaknesses in national and international response systems. Although health system financing and income levels influenced baseline capacity, this dissertation demonstrates that governance performance was a decisive determinant of pandemic outcomes, shaping intervention timing, vaccine equity, and preventable mortality.

Drawing on governance theory, empirical analysis, and policy-oriented legal evaluation, this research examines whether pandemic preparedness can be achieved through strengthening Global Health Governance (GHG) alone, or whether a broader paradigm of Global Governance for Health (GGFH) is required. This study examines evolving dynamics of Arab national security and forecasts developments over the next decade. It identifies key determinants, including political stability, economic resilience, military capability, and social cohesion, while accounting for geopolitical shifts, technological change, climate pressures, and global power realignments. Employing a qualitative survey design, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with 112 regional security and policy experts and applies thematic analysis. Findings indicate that limited regional cooperation and weak economic performance undermine Arab national security. This thesis is a sociophonetic study investigating the surface realisation of the short-falling and short-rising pitch accents in different dialects of Serbo-Croatian, a South Slavic language. In particular, it investigates the hypothesis of a merger-in-progress between these two pitch accent contours in Belgrade and surrounding areas by analysing phonetic data collected from 17 young speakers of various dialect areas.

The study shows several significant results. We find that the two short accents are, indeed, continuing on their merging trajectory, and most strongly in the Belgrade area. Unexpectedly, we find that they tend to merge in favour of the rising accent, …

The words used, or conspicuously not used, to describe victims, perpetrators, and their actions are not neutral arbiters of fact. This thesis analyzes the strategic diffusion of anti-transgender policy in the United States following the passage of Idaho House Bills 500 and 509 in 2020. It argues that conservative lawmakers and advocacy organizations employed a coordinated "two-track" policy strategy in which transgender sports bans served as highly visible and politically popular mode legislation while identity-document restrictions advanced more quietly through courts and administrative policy. The most widely reported but least appreciated aspects of human experience are recurring dreams, or those dreams that happen repeatedly with similar themes, imagery, or emotional tone in each episode of the dream. This literature review was based on five relevant psychological sources to explore what common dreams tell about what is going on in the inner psyche of the person having the dream. The synthesis of the empirical literature on recurring dream frequency has been associated with weakened psychological well-being. This article traces a genealogy of binary logic within Western philosophy, from its origins in Platonic metaphysics through to its deconstruction in poststructuralist theory. Drawing on the genealogical methods of Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel Foucault, it critiques how oppositional structures, such as mind/body, reason/emotion, and truth/error, have persisted through shifting intellectual paradigms while shaping knowledge, power, and subjectivity. Structuralist and linguistic theories are examined for their role in reinforcing binary meaning-making, while poststructural critiques (notably Derrida and Foucault) are explored for their attempts to subvert such hierarchies.
