The Effectiveness Of A Multifocal Training To Improve The Treatment Of Community-Acquired Mrsa Skin And Soft Tissue Infections, Aaron Santmyire
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Practitioners and researchers have documented an increase in community-acquired methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs). This increase is causing stress and concern for the individuals infected and the families of those infected. The impact of a practitioner based multifocal training has not been clearly established. The purpose of this capstone project was to determine the effect of a multifocal training on CA-MRSA SSTIs that educated primary care practitioners about treatment guidelines, Marion County, WV susceptibility data, I&D technique, and a patient education tool versus common treatment practices to increase practitioner's knowledge and utilization of evidence …
Quantifying Near-Bank Turbulence Through A Storm Event, Charles Z. Walburn
Quantifying Near-Bank Turbulence Through A Storm Event, Charles Z. Walburn
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Sediment is a leading cause of water quality impairment for streams and rivers. Streambank erosion is a dominant source contributing to sediment pollution and there is a growing need for adopting management practices to reduce it. Bank retreat occurs from a combination of fluvial erosion, subaerial processes, and mass failure. Fluvial entrainment, initiated by near-boundary turbulence, is one of the main drivers of streambank retreat as it leads to unstable streambank geometries. This research characterized the turbulent structure of flow near the toe of a streambank throughout a storm event, at times of high shear stress. The specific objectives included …
An In Vitro Microenvironment For Nucleus Pulposus Regeneration, Mark S. Shoukry
An In Vitro Microenvironment For Nucleus Pulposus Regeneration, Mark S. Shoukry
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Intervertebral disc degeneration begins early in life, increases with age, and can ultimately result in disc failure. At the center of the disc, the nucleus pulposus (NP) resides in a hypoxic environment where degeneration is thought to begin. Initially, nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) display altered morphology and function, along with increased rates of cellular senescence and apoptosis. Though no widely accepted treatment exists, autologous NP implantation techniques have shown promise. However, the process is flawed as a result of the long in vitro expansion required to obtain sufficient numbers of cells. Prolonged expansion on plastic produces negative changes such as …

Evaluation Of Methods For Measuring Aggregate Specific Gravity, Rajasekhar Bikya
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The current American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) procedures for determining the aggregate specific gravities and absorption values are time consuming and hence are not appropriate for quality control processes. These methods are not repeatable too which is another issue with the standard test methods. The standard AASHTO method for fine aggregates has problems with angular and absorptive materials. Due to this problem several agencies have developed alternative methods. Correct measurement of the specific gravity and absorption play a crucial role in the design of hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures. Improper measurements can lead to poor asphalt …
