This dissertation tells the story of the Loyalist printers of Revolutionary America. They numbered 34, varying in degree from those who adhered to the crown as a matter of principle, to those who merely wanted to be on the winning side, and still others whose loyalism was due to circumstances of time and place. No attempt has been made to provide a blanket "why" for the actions of the Loyalist printers; each is treated as the individual he was and the reasons for his actions are examined on that basis.

Adolescents experiencing difficulties in controlling their anger or disruptive behaviors have been targets of numerous behavioral treatment programs. However, problems with generalization across settings, long term treatment effects, and obtaining powerful adolescent reinforcers have limited the effectiveness of external behavior modification programs. Rather than focus on manipulation of consequences of aggressive behavior, numerous self-control studies have trained subjects to modify their own emotional arousal and verbal behavior when faced with aversive and stressful stimuli. Many accidents and fatalities in underground coal mines are caused by inadequately designed electrical power systems. These incidents can be significantly reduced if coal-mine power systems are designed strictly according to IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI standards.

The objective of this research is to develop techniques and comprehensive computer software for the optimal design of coal-mine power systems. This aims to achieve the highest degree of safety, reliability, and performance at minimal capital cost.

The objective of this work was to determine stability constants of the iron(III) complexes of polyhydroxamic acids in which the hydroxamic acid (HA) groups were separated by more than 13 atoms. Two water-soluble polymers containing HA units in side arms branching from the polymer backbone, one with 15 atom spacing between HA groups (P-15) and one with 17 atom spacing (P-17) were prepared by the following reaction sequence: 1) Schotten-Bauman reaction of methacryloyl chloride with glycylgylcine or e-amino-n-caproic acid. 2) Condensation reaction between N-hydroxysuccinimide and the product of the Schotten-Bauman reaction using N,N’- dicyclohexylcarbodiimide as a condensing agent. 3) Solution …

The application of hydrodynamic voltammetry to the study of heterogeneous electron transfer rate constants on platinum and graphite, and homogeneous rate constants for a chemical step coupled with charge transfer reaction(s) is presented. Turbulent flow forced convection at the vibrating electrode was used to determine the kinetic parameters for the reduction of Ce^+ 3+ 7 and Fe in 1 M H^SO^ and 0.1 M HCIO^ on platinum, and of Fe(CN)^-, 4+ 3+ Ce , and Fe in various background media on wax-impregnated graphite. The purpose of this study is to assess critically the works of Philippe Basiron (three masses, three motets, and eight chansons) and also deal with problems of authenticity and biography. Only a few scholars have shown an interest in this composer and most of their findings have been preliminary in nature. He is thought to have been identical with Philippe de Bourges, Philippe de Bruges, and Philippon, all recorded in various sources from the 15th century. A two-dimensional crack/cavity thermo-mechanical-elastic loading model for characterizing the response of porous—permeable media is developed. The stress and displacement field expressions for this formulated model, with a general elliptic crack/cavity shape, are derived by using the complex variable approach for twodimensional thermo-elastic problems. The critical loading criteria for crack-closure are expressed in terms of the applied stresses and temperature gradient and the mechanisms for line crack-closure are determined from these conditions. The results of the acid-catalyzed (0.001 M H+ ) methanolysis of 30 are quite significant because they indicate that the methanolysis of 30 in neutral or basic media must involve the formation of a pentacoordinate intermediate by a pathway involving the initial attack of methoxide ion on J30, The intermediate then reacts with two molecules of methanol (regenerating a methoxide ion) to produce a hydrogen-bonded species which decomposes to products via a sixcentered transition state in a rate-determining step.
