A Determination And Correlation Of The Stability Constants Of The Variouscopper(Ii) Complexes With The Ethanolamines, The Isopropanolamines, The Three Hydroxy-Substituted Amines Of 2-Amino-2-Methylpropane, And Ethanolpropanolamine., Robert Brent Simmons
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The formulas and formation constants of the complex species formed in aqueous solution by the Interaction of copper(ll) with a series of alkanol-substituted monoamines and the hydroxide ion have been determined. The amines include the three ethanolamines, the corresponding lsopropanolamlnes, the three hydroxy-substituted amines of 2-amlno- 2-methylpropane, and ethaqolpropanolamlne. Standard and newly developed computational methods for the analysis of potentlometrie, polarographlc and spectrophotometrio data have been applied to describe these systems continuously over the entire range of pH studied, approximately pH two to pH 12. At relatively low pH values nitrogen atom coordination or chelation with nitrogen atom and oxygen …
Geology Of The Great Valley Of West Virginia., Stuart Linden Dean
Geology Of The Great Valley Of West Virginia., Stuart Linden Dean
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The Great Valley (Shenandoah Valley) of eastern West Virginia is the northern extension of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and marks the eastern limit of the Valley and Ridge physiographic province. The valley is underlain by nonresistant carbonate rocks and shales of Cambrian and Ordovician age, which have been eroded to produce a relatively flat to rolling terrain. The surface geology of the Great Valley is dominated by the north-northeast trending Massanutten synclinorium. The axis of this structure coincides with a belt of Martinsburg Shale west of the center of the valley. The western limb of the Massanutten synclinorium is …

The Left Fork of Little Sandy Creek Basin, between Fellowsville and Tunnelton, West Virginia, was surveyed for the location of mine acide drainage sources. Thereafter, they were studied for the purposes of planning abatement and determining the relationship between the chemical constituents in and the discharge of mine acid drainage.
The Nature Of Basic Explanation, David Leonard Thompson
The Nature Of Basic Explanation, David Leonard Thompson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the concept of basic explanation particularly as it is discussed by Charles Taylor in his book, The Explanation of Behaviour, An exposition of Taylor's views will be followed by a criticisms of them in the light of a number of contemporary approaches to the issue. I will suggest modifications of Taylor's position to make it more compatible with these other approaches. Finally the importance of this idea of a basic explanation will be discussed.

Evaluating Farm Mechanization Problems In Tanganyika, Timothy Apiyo
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
As a young nation, Tanganyika's long-run aspiration in.agriculture is to help the majority of African peasant farmers emerge from the partly subsistence economy and partly monetary economy into a cash economy. In such an economy an individual farmer can produce to feed and clothe others besides his family.

Geology Of The Southern Half Of The Millerstown, Pennsylvania 15 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, George Calvert Robinson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A detailed investigation of the geology of the southern one-half of the Millerstown, Pennsylvania 15 Minute Topographic Quandrangle was conducted during 1956-1957. This report of the work contains a description of the Silurian, Devonian, and Mississippian formations which crop out in the area. The complex folding and faulting of the sediments is outlined in a section on structural geology. A number of anticlines and synclines, not previously mapped, are described.
A geologic map and two structural cross sections with a scale of 1:24000 are included to illustrate the features described. This is the first geologic map of the area on …

Contacts Of Negroes And Whites In Morgantown, Ellis Ray Williams
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This thesis is an analysis of Negro-white contacts within the city limits of Morgantown, West Virginia.
The specific hypothesis is that contacts which Negroes have with whites vary in frequency and intensity according to the institutional or neighborhood settings in which they occur, and with the age and sex of the individuals involved.
A supplementary thesis is that the attitudes of Negroes toward whites are conditioned by the contacts they have with whites.
The investigative techniques employed were those of personal interview, schedule and first hand observation of the author.
The study revealed the following conclusion: Contacts with whites exists …
Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin
Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A petrographic study was made of two Lower Permian (Dunkard Series) sandstones in southeastern Ohio. The sandstone members with which the investigation was concerned are the Upper Marietta sandstone and the Hundred sandstone. The study was made in order to determine the origin of the sandstones and the practicability of applying geologic methods to the grindstone industry. The results of the study indicate that although some of the constituents of these sandstones were derived from igneous and sedimentary source rocks, a relatively large amount of material was derived from metamorphic rocks. The detritus was transported from the east and deposited …

A Comparison Of The Opportunities Offered In Negro And White Senior High Schools In The Field Of Commerce In West Virginia, Victorine A. Louistall
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Commercial education is relatively a newcomer in our schools, as compared with the College Preparatory Course. Because of the demands of business and society the content of the commercial course has been largely increased to include such subjects as commercial law, salesmanship, consumer economics, insurance, business machines, office practice, and other subjects, to meet these new demands.
Since the field of commercial education is still newer in the Negro high schools it seems to the writer to be necessary that a comparison of situations will be the basis for determining future needs and equipment in the Negro and white high …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The present manuscript is a study of the correspondence between Thomas Jefferson and Philip Mazzei, an Italian emigrant.
Being of Italian parentage, I was interested in finding out what Italians have done to aid in the development and progress of their adopted country. Therefore, Philip Mazzei was brought to my attention by Dr. C. H. Ambler, Professor of History, at West Virginia University, as an outstanding Italian emigrant who loved and served the United States. To carry on agricultural experiment work, he came to America just before the American Revolution, but was later sent to Europe on a special mission …
