The Rebec: An Orthographic And Iconographic Study. (Volumes I And Ii)., Margaret Anne Downie
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Most musical instruments of Western European culture have been studied and defined; however, no systematic study has yet been made for the instrument commonly known as the rebec (or rebeck). General reference sources and musicological studies which mention the rebec often provide discrepant, vague, and erroneous information. The current interest in the performance of Medieval and Renaissance music and the reproduction of instruments upon which this music might have been played has created a need, among performers and instrument makers, for specific, primary source information concerning the rebec. The use of the rebec in Western Europe can be documented through …

Fluidized Bed Freeboard Phenomena Study, Long-Huie Chen
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A model for the fluidized bed freeboard region is developed to describe reactions which are important in many fluidized bed chemical reactors including fluidized bed coal combustor. Particles in freeboard region originate from the bursting of bubbles at the bed surface. In this work, the rate of ejection of solid particles at the bed surface is correlated with hydrodynamic parameters of the bed, such as the bubble diameter and the excess gas velocity. Those entrained particles for which the terminal velocity is larger than the actual gas velocity in the freeboard will reach a given height within the freeboard, then …

Interindustry Linkages And Industrial Clusters: A Comparative Analysis., Anthony Louis Loviscek
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The foundation of interdependence among industries is the system of interindustry linkages. An interindustry linkage is the operational connection of flows of material and information among the industrial units of an economic system. By analyzing linkages, economists are able to work out impacts of changes in industrial activity on an economy. Entries of input-output tables provide measurements of inter-industry linkages. The rows of a table represent forward linkages, or connections further along the production process. The columns represent backward linkages, or connections with input suppliers. In recent years, regional and urban analysts have focused on clusters of industries for explaining …

A Free-Vortex Model With Numerical Solution For The Unsteady Lifting Characteristics Of Straight Bladed Darrieus Wind Turbines., Paul Gerald Migliore
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A method has been developed to analyze the flow and predict the lifting characteristics of vertical axis wind turbines. Blades are modelled by a number of discrete bound vortices located on the airfoil mean camber line; the wake is modelled by a number of discrete vortices shed from the blade trailing edge. Application of the flow tangency boundary condition and the Kutta condition permit a numerical solution for the strengths of the bound vortices. Blade forces are then determined from potential theory. This vortex model faithfully reflects the important phenomena of flow unsteadiness and wake/blade interaction. Wake details and energy …
