One of the most important aspects in the long-term planning of an underground mine is the decision on production scheduling, (the long-term mining sequence planning); that is the order in which parts of the seam should be mined given a specified number of operating units. An optimal mining sequence of the combined operating units would lead to the best possible net present value (NPV) for a mining company. The primary purposes of this study were to (1) develop a rank-ordered listing of concepts, ideas, equipment, systems, and techniques pertaining to the broad aspects of automation recommended for post-secondary technology education programs, and (2) draw implications for post-secondary education curriculum based on the outcomes of the Delphi. The study consisted of a three-round Delphi with a panel of twenty manufacturing professionals at a supervisory or higher level and with automation experience. Ambrosio Jose Gonzales, born in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1818, at the age of ten was sent to school in New York City, where he made friends with classmate Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard. Gonzales became imbued with the Democratic ideals of the Jacksonian era before returning to Cuba, where he received a law degree from the University of Havana and became a freemason. The corruption of Spain's colonial judicial system prompted him to forsake on principle a lucrative career for that of a college teacher. This study examined the effects of type of learner control in hypermedia software by learning disabled students. Developmental math students, not categorized as learning disabled, were also included in the study which investigated achievement, attitudes, and perceptions of those students regarding computer-based math word problem solving. Two HyperCard stacks of a tutorial nature were used as the treatment for this research. One stack contained high learner control; the other, low control. The purpose of this study was to identify the concerns and characteristics that distinguish diabetes educators who exhibit high levels of innovativeness with respect to educational uses of computers from those who do not. The Stages of Concern Questionnaire and a Demographic Questionnaire compiled by the author were used to collect the data. Prior calculations of heat transfer coefficients for an experimental horizontal tube in a bubbling fluidized bed have assumed that the heat conduction through the tube wall is one dimensional. However, a comparison between one dimensional (1D) and two dimensional (2D) analyses and comparing them with experimental data shows that there exists a significant difference between 1D and 2D calculations. The analysis was accomplished by solving the unsteady 1D and 2D heat conduction equation across the tube wall numerically. The purpose of this investigation was to experimentally examine the enhanced heat transfer and emission reduction characteristics of periodically perturbed annular natural gas flames issuing into a cylindrical cavity. Perturbation modes for the fluidic nozzles included the use of steady, axially oscillating, and radially oscillating annular flames. The testing process involved two phases. Phase one quantified the instantaneous and time averaged heat fluxes and the amount of NOx production from the natural gas flames. Nitrogen mineralization and nitrate leaching were investigated in an acid mine soil reclaimed with sewage sludge (SS) and coal combustion residues (CCR). In the field experiments mine soil was amended with three rates of SS (0, 1200, and 2400 kg N ha{dollar}\\sp{lcub}-1{rcub}){dollar} and two types of CCR, i.e. fly ash (FA) and fluidized bed waste (FBW) applied at rates equivalent to once and twice the lime requirement of the soil. The following manuscript is a description of our efforts over the last five years to investigate and elucidate the chemical parameters and mechanisms that lead to the C-C bond cleavage reactions in organic compounds. Motivation to perform this work was provided by the reactions of certain coal model compounds under coal liquefaction conditions. These coal model compounds were found to cleave the bond connecting the naphthalene ring to the remainder of the molecule and the reactivity was attributed to be due to radical cation behavior. This study investigated the antecedents of behavioral loyalty and the relationships among the study variables. The data used in the analyses were collected from participants of a recreational sport/fitness center. Data were collected through a combination of on site and mail survey. The results of the multivariate analyses were based on 208 completed usable questionnaires. The present study corroborated the idea that involvement and attitudinal loyalty constructs should be viewed multidimensionally. Factor analyses produced three factor structure for attitudinal loyalty construct (normative, affective, and investment loyalty), and four factors for involvement construct (self-expression, importance-pleasure, risk-consequence, and risk probability). The study compared cognitive group therapy to life review group therapy with older adults who reside in a personal care facility. The study sought to find if there were differences in treatment gains between the two therapies based on subjects' level of depression (as noted on the Beck Depression Inventory) and life satisfaction (as cited on the Salamon-Conte Life Satisfaction in the Elderly Scale). Fifteenth- and sixteenth-century composers of French secular music sometimes based their compositions on monophonic popular chansons, or chansons rustiques. The resulting "popular arrangements" were most often composed in three voices, but a significant number in four or more voices are extant as well. This study examines the style, sources, and legacy of popular arrangements in four or more voices composed between ca. 1470 and ca. 1570. Chapter 1 discusses the methods by which four-part popular arrangements are identified. This study is an ethnographic investigation of learning strategies employed by unsuccessful learners of beginning Japanese at the college level. Twelve participants, four each from successful, moderately successful, and unsuccessful learner categories, were selected from the pool of American undergraduate students studying second-semester Japanese with their assigned native Japanese tutors in and out of the classroom.
