Integral Solution For Turbulent Mixing Of Two Parallel Air Streams In A Duct, Thomas Fredric Kascoutas
Integral Solution For Turbulent Mixing Of Two Parallel Air Streams In A Duct, Thomas Fredric Kascoutas
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Turbulence is characterized by random fluctuation motions in the longitudinal and transverse direction which have macroscopic effects upon the flow pattern. In the study of fluid flow, it is beneficial to visualize motions of particles of different sizes. The particles can be categorized into those of molecular magnitude and those of a larger scale. The larger scale particles can best be thought of as fluid lumps. Fundamentally, there are two types of fluid flow (laminar and turbulent). In laminar flow, the fluctuation particles are of a microscopic scale. These particles possess only small amounts of mass and energy, thus their …
A Procedure For Planning Production And Determination Of Inventory, Syed Khaja Kaleemuddin
A Procedure For Planning Production And Determination Of Inventory, Syed Khaja Kaleemuddin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
At one time excess inventories were considered advantageous, but today they are regarded as the major cause of business failures. Most often, inventories deal the severest blow to the new entrepreneur because he cannot afford to have capital tied up in inventory during a seasonal slump. One of the factors that has aggravated the problem of inventories has been the trend towards product diversification in the past 25 years. Management of inventories is recognized today as one of the key responsibilities in achieving continuous and economical plant operation. Inventory dollars are no longer regarded as a drain on working capital; …
Velocity And Suspended Sediment Concentration Distributions In Open Channel Flows, I Chung Ho
Velocity And Suspended Sediment Concentration Distributions In Open Channel Flows, I Chung Ho
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The energy given to the movement of sediment is a loss of energy from the water stream itself insofar as its flow rate is concerned. The movement of sediment is a complex function. One of the primary factors in the determination of the transport of sediment is to evaluate the sediment concentration distributions in channel flows. It is generally divided into suspended sediment concentration and the bed load. The determination of the suspended sediment concentration distribution requires very accurate computation of the velocity distribution in the channels. It has been observed that equations used at present very often lead to …
A Study And Analysis Of The Stochastic Model And Assumptions Used In Pert, Leon Burnell Ellwein
A Study And Analysis Of The Stochastic Model And Assumptions Used In Pert, Leon Burnell Ellwein
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years we have seen significant advances in technology. The present period has often been called the Age of Massive Engineering by many authorities. This high rate of advancement has been initiated and supported by the space race as well as the demands of industry. New technologies provide the backbone for new and complex development projects which in turn end up as management’s responsibility for administration. The importance of time and efficiency in controlling a project is at the top of management’s list. Many times the success of a project depends as much on the time of completion as …
The Effect Of Wave Shape On The Electrical Breakdown Of Nitrogen Gas, Keith E. Crouch
The Effect Of Wave Shape On The Electrical Breakdown Of Nitrogen Gas, Keith E. Crouch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It was Ben Franklin who first showed that the lighting of the skies was the same electricity produced by Leyden jar or a static generator. However, lightening remained just a terrible phenomenon that one protected oneself against using Franklin’s lightning rods, the little else known or cared about it until the end of the 19th century. Man then began to study lightening in earnest because he had started transmitting electricity power over transmission lines which were subject to lightening and, to protect them, more had to be known about the behavior and characteristics of lightning strokes. Methods also had to …

Laboratory Investigation Of A Model Multi-Tube Closed Conduit Spillway, Delvin D. Brosz
Laboratory Investigation Of A Model Multi-Tube Closed Conduit Spillway, Delvin D. Brosz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Renewed interest in the hydraulic performance of closed conduits is evidenced by the number of studies reported since 1950. The hydraulics of closed conduit spillways is not as simple as previous thoughts had indicated and is a reason for the renewed interest. Another reason is that many of these structures are being constructed each year and small savings or improvements in each structure generally result in a large total savings (8). The closed conduit spillway is of considerable importance, especially when it is considered that the common culverts used by highway engineers; the “trickle tubes,” drop inlet culverts, and uncontrolled …
Hydrologic Aspects Of Water Harvesting, Sidney W. Black
Hydrologic Aspects Of Water Harvesting, Sidney W. Black
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As is most Midwestern states, livestock consumption, human consumption, irrigation, recreation, and wildlife are all in competition for the available water supplies in South Dakota. It is the purpose of this study to develop design criteria for a more efficient system of collection water to assist in satisfying the vast demands of livestock consumption. A moisture shortage can be the downfall of any livestock producer. There are roughly 728 million acres of rangeland in the continental United States with 26.7 million acres in South Dakota (18). Most of this area is available for domestic livestock grazing, but a large portion …
Behavior Of Thin Web Hybrid Beams Subjected To Static Loads, Jamal B. Sarsam
Behavior Of Thin Web Hybrid Beams Subjected To Static Loads, Jamal B. Sarsam
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Hybrid beams combine strength and economy in steel design. They are the latest attempts from the steel industry to meet the competition presented by pre-stressed concrete. Hybrid beams are fabricated by welding high-strength steel flanges to a lower strength steel web. The primary objectives of this investigation are to determine the structural behavior and to study the stress distribution in the webs and flanges of a varying depth-to-thickness ratio in webs of hybrid beams. The plastic design method of analysis is adopted in this investigation. All beams will be subjected to symmetrical 4-point loading and to stimulate as much as …
Factors Influencing Anaerobic Pond Treatment Of Meat Packing Waste, Tracy James Tofflemire
Factors Influencing Anaerobic Pond Treatment Of Meat Packing Waste, Tracy James Tofflemire
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The objectives if the research were threefold: 1. To determine the effect of increased kill and loading on an anaerobic pond system treating meat packing wastes. 2. To determine the effect of recirculation in an anaerobic pond system treating meat packing wastes. 3. To determine the insulating effect of a meat waste grease-scum. The extent of the research was limited to the anaerobic system.
Samples and records were taken at the MID Packing Company from November 1965 through March 1966. During the first period of sampling, data were collected which made possible an evaluation of the effect of higher kill. …
Studies And Applications Of The Theory Of Inventory And Production, Om Parkash Goel
Studies And Applications Of The Theory Of Inventory And Production, Om Parkash Goel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The control of inventories is one of the most complex and far-reaching of all business activities. It is the focal point of many seemingly conflicting interests and considerations – both short and long range. It’s planning and execution involves participation by most of the functional segments of a business; sales, production, purchasing, finance and accounting. The end result achieved has a major bearing on the company’s financial strength and competitive position, since it directly affects the quality of service to customers, production costs, earnings and soundness of working capital position. Two facts reinforce this estimate of the importance of inventory …
An Experimental System For Beta And Gamma Ray Spectroscopy, Ora William Leisure
An Experimental System For Beta And Gamma Ray Spectroscopy, Ora William Leisure
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A nucleus may be left in an excited state following a radioactive decay or nuclear bombardment process. However the lifetime of a nucleus in an excited state is usually very short (1) and the nucleus may undergo and electromagnetic transition to a less excited state. The transition from one nuclear state to another of lower energy can proceed by any on the three processes: gamma ray emission; internal conversion; and internal pair creation. The resulting nuclear state may be stable or further electromagnetic transitions and radioactive decay processes may follow. Important information concerning nuclear properties can be obtained from experimental …

Mobility And Behavior Of Raccoons In Eastern South Dakota, George L. Geis
Mobility And Behavior Of Raccoons In Eastern South Dakota, George L. Geis
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Introduction: Increasing populations of raccoons (Procyon lotor) and reports of depredation on upland game, poultry, and garden crops indicated a need for research concerning behavior, mobility, and range of raccoons. The raccoon has seemingly adapted to the dry environment of the northern agricultural plains. According to records, the original range apparently did not extend into South Dakota. Lewis and Clark did not report raccoons when they traveled along the Missouri River in 1804 and 1806 (Coues, 1893). Although Visher (1918) noted that raccoons were not rare in wooded areas along streams in western South Dakota, he made no mention of …
