A Validation Study Of The Beck Word-Color Association Test With The Minnesota Counseling Inventory, Camilla Russell Bernauer

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Educators are always alert and watchful for new and better instruments of measurement to be used in serving the student in gaining new insights into his concept of self. Of all the areas of individual differences which lend themselves to testing there is none in greater need of development than that of personality assessment. Any new test, any new approach to this assessment, is worthy of careful research and analysis. While studying at the State College of Iowa, the writer was introduced to the Beck Word-Color Association Test. In the analysis of two gifted boys in Cedar Falls, Iowa, it …

Growth Responses Of A Myxomycete To Treatment With Plant Growth Regulating Substances, Mary Annunciata Mcmanus, Joselet Mary Ousephparampil

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Protoplasmodia of Clastoderma debaryanum multiply in culture to produce more individual plasmodia, each of which fruits into a single sporangium. After treatment of cultures with 1 ppm kinetin and with 1 ppm, 5 ppm, and 10 ppm aqueous solutions of 3-indoleacetic acid, the number of sporangia produced was consistently greater than in controls. Fewer sporangia, as compared to controls, were produced after treatment with kinetin at 5 ppm and 10 ppm, and no consistent results were obtained after treatment with gibberellic acid at the same concentrations.

The Effect Of Wind On Transpiration And Evaporation Through Multiperforate Septa, Irwin P. Ting, Walter E. Loomis Jan 1964

The Effect Of Wind On Transpiration And Evaporation Through Multiperforate Septa, Irwin P. Ting, Walter E. Loomis

Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science

Diffusion of water vapor through single-pore membranes with pores 100 to 800 μ in diameter and multipore membranes with pores 2.5 to 20 μ in diameter was studied as a function of wind velocity. The results of these studies are compared with data obtained with transpiring leaves in wind. It was found that wind had relatively little effect on small pores as compared with large pores and free water surfaces. The primary response of stomates or small, isolated pores to wind was simply an increase in the diffusion gradient. In general, the wind-to-still-air diffusion ratios determined with the use of …

No females were found that had formed a fourth annulus. Average coefficient of condition for 104 fantail darters was 1.749. Length-weight relationships for males and …

Three Hypotheses Concerning Art Nouveau, Ralph H. Gaede Jan 1964

Three Hypotheses Concerning Art Nouveau, Ralph H. Gaede

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

A style of art, known to us today as Art Nouveau, developed throughout the countries of western Europe during the 1890's. As a style, Art Nouveau had its effect in varying degrees upon most of the art forms: architecture, the applied arts and decorative design, painting, sculpture, illustration, bookbinding, printmaking, ceramics, jewelry-making, and other minor art forms. Then, after encompassing this wide variety of creative activity, the forms of Art Nouveau faded and died out just prior to the First World War (1910-1915).

A Study Of Selected Employers’ Opinions Regarding The Terminal Education Programs Of Secondary Schools In Davenport, Iowa, Gerald Dwight Clemmensen Jan 1964

A Study Of Selected Employers’ Opinions Regarding The Terminal Education Programs Of Secondary Schools In Davenport, Iowa, Gerald Dwight Clemmensen

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

One of the failings of American education today is its inability to meet the needs of the average student in high school. Because of this failing, many young people, mostly boys, will drop out of high school sometime between beginning the tenth grade and finishing the twelfth grade. Because American education does not meet the needs of the average student, many youths, job hunting immediately following graduation from high school, will face a more difficult time in locating some type of employment than their elders did during the early 1930's.

Smith Wildman Brookhart: Iowa's Last Populist, Ray S. Johnston Jan 1964

Smith Wildman Brookhart: Iowa's Last Populist, Ray S. Johnston

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Since the age of Andrew Jackson, American political aspirants have recognized a value in being identified as a candidate of and from "the people." Frequently a good deal of effort and money is expended to convince the electorate that prospective officeholders are "self-made" men of humble origins. In this respect Smith Wildman Brookhart's early life might well epitomize the dream of a political public relations man, for he was truly of humble origins and was indeed a man who had overcome great odds. Smith Brookhart was born in a log cabin just across lowa's southern border in Scotland County, Missouri, …
