Beyond The Athlete: An Autoethnographic Exploration Of Occupational Identity, Sofia Paniagua-Bauer, Karen Park
Summer 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
Adolescent student-athletes experience unique demands as they navigate the expectations of competitive sport alongside academic, social, and developmental responsibilities. These demands may influence mental health, executive functioning, occupational balance, and the development of occupational identity. The purpose of this Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) capstone project was to explore the development of occupational identity through the lived experience of growing up as a competitive athlete and to examine how participation in sport influenced mental health, self-regulation, executive functioning, and engagement in meaningful occupations. An autoethnographic approach was used to reflect on my personal experiences while completing a capstone experience at …

Household Water Use For Circular Transitions: Elasticity Estimates And Circular Economy Signals From Metro Manila, Albert E. Lamberte, Abed Alaswad, Luciano C. Batista
Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (AKI)
The study examines household water demand in Metro Manila and evaluates how demand behavior and infrastructure access shape the transition from a linear to a circular water and wastewater economy. Estimated prices, ranging from -0.441 to 0.468, and income elasticities, which are between 0.550 and 0.572, for those with and without access to both water and sewerage systems reveal consistently inelastic demand. Thus, water is treated as a necessity with limited behavioral responsiveness to tariff changes. The similarity of elasticities across service groups suggests that behavioral factors are not the primary constraint to circularity. Instead, the findings highlight that infrastructure …

Building Adaptive Leaders: Examining The Relationship Between Undergraduate Co-Curricular Leadership Roles, Change Readiness, And Leadership Self-Efficacy, Reneldo N. Randall
Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
The contemporary workforce is characterized by ongoing organizational change, requiring individuals to demonstrate adaptability and the capacity to lead within evolving conditions. Institutions of higher education increasingly emphasize leadership development as a mechanism for preparing students for these demands; however, limited empirical research has examined how participation in formal co-curricular undergraduate leadership roles relates to students’ readiness to engage with organizational change. This study addresses the gap by examining the relationship between leadership self-efficacy and resistance to change among undergraduate student leaders.
Guided by the Leadership Identity Development (LID) model, this quantitative study employed a non-experimental, correlational design. Data were …

Early literacy instruction in the U.S. often centers monolingual, English-dominant practices that marginalize multilingual learners and their families. This qualitative design-based research study examines a family literacy initiative that engaged caregivers and teachers as co-designers of a multilingual, multimodal literacy resource bag. Using the MultiSemiotic Architecture Framework, we analyzed qualitative data to explore how collaborative text selection can advance linguistic justice in early childhood education. Findings highlight five themes that shaped intentional text selection and supported multilingual home literacy practices: content, language, cultural relevance, curricular alignment, and collaborative modifications. By centering families' cultural and linguistic resources, the project disrupted monolingual …

Pathology, East Africa
Despite growing evidence on the impact of intra-tumoral heterogeneity (ITH) in breast cancer (BC), its biological drivers and clinically relevant mitigation strategies remain poorly characterized, particularly in low-resource settings where spatial profiling is rarely applied. To address this gap, we conducted a comprehensive, multiplatform spatial profiling study of BC in a Kenyan population. Using the NanoString GeoMx™ Digital Spatial Profiler, we quantified 44 protein markers across 707 spatially defined, PanCK-segmented Areas of Illumination (AOIs) from 31 tumors. All tumors exhibited measurable ITH, with one-third showing marked heterogeneity. Sixteen patients exhibited two or more intrinsic subtypes within their tumors, three of …

The transition to new environments often induces stress, but relatively few studies have explored the acculturative stress among college students relocating within the same country. This study adapted and validated the Riverside Acculturation Stress Inventory to assess cross-regional acculturative stress (CAS) among college students in China. We first used confirmatory factor analysis to examine the factor structure of the CAS scale. We then determined the reliability (internal consistency) and the validity of the CAS scale by examining CAS’s relationship with sociodemographic factors and mental well-being. Finally, we tested the moderating role of self-esteem as well as the mediation pathways through …

Skills-Based Classrooms In Adult Education, Svetlana Quirk-Lazarev
School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects
In today's rapidly evolving labor market, skills-based and hands-on learning have become central to adult lifelong education. Numerous studies highlight that "learning by doing" is the preferred and most effective approach for adults, who increasingly seek education that aligns with real-world demands and career advancement. Despite the growing emphasis on skills-based learning, gaps remain between educational programs and real-world expectations.
To understand how a skills-based course can affect employability outcomes for adult learners, we must first examine the root barriers in adult education. Adult learners face a very different set of obstacles compared to children. As cited further, some of …
