Pheasant Weights And Time Of Season In Relation To Meat Production In Nebraska, Levi L. Mohler
Pheasant Weights And Time Of Season In Relation To Meat Production In Nebraska, Levi L. Mohler
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications
During the 1942 pheasant hunting season in Nebraska 479 bagged cock pheasants were weighed in western and southwestern counties. Analysis of the weights revealed that the time of the open season apparently has a material effect upon the tonnage of meat harvested for human consumption.
Increases In Aphid Populations On Potato Plants Sprayed With Zinc Arsenite In Western Nebraska, Roscoe E. Hill, H. Douglas Tate
Increases In Aphid Populations On Potato Plants Sprayed With Zinc Arsenite In Western Nebraska, Roscoe E. Hill, H. Douglas Tate
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
During the 1941 growing season, field observations in western Nebraska indicated that aphids, Myzus persicae (Sulz.), were becoming abundant in experimental potato plots that had been treated with zinc arsenite-lime sulfur spray for controlling potato flea beetles, Epitrix cucumeris (Harr.), and the potato psyllid, Paratrioza cockerelli (Sulc.). Detailed examinations of leaves showed that significantly greater populations were present on the sprayed than on the untreated plants. Evidence of slight increases also was noted on plants dusted with a barium fluosilicate and sulfur mixture.
Nebraska Cattle Grub Survey, Lewis T. Graham, H. Douglas Tate
Nebraska Cattle Grub Survey, Lewis T. Graham, H. Douglas Tate
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
The scarcity of data on the actual extent of cattle grub infestation in Nebraska became evident during the winter of 1942--43 when a control program was being organized. Although there were some cattlemen who were acutely aware of the losses occasioned by this pest, there were many others who had given the problem little thought or who believed that infestation resulted largely from the importation of feeder cattle. More detailed information was obviously desirable in order to present an accurate and convincing account of the problem to the cattle growers.

Swine Erysipelas Infection In Man, L. Van Es
Swine Erysipelas Infection In Man, L. Van Es
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The preceding decade witnessed the introduction and spread within this state of a hitherto uncommon disease of swine. This disorder, swine erysipelas, has gradually become disseminated throughout Nebraska's swine population until it has developed into a major problem of preventive veterinary medicine. Its appearance, furthermore, added another to our list of animal maladies which are communicable to man. The latter consideration may serve as warrant to review what is known about the part played by swine erysipelas as a human disease, to describe its more salient features and to examine them from epidemiological, clinical, pathological and prophylactic viewpoints.

Swine Erysipelas. Revised Edition Of Research Bulletin 84, L. Van Es, C. B. Mcgrath
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Because of the more or less frequent occurrence of swine erysipelas on Nebraska farms it seemed proper that information on this subject be made available in the form of a Station publication, especially written to serve as a reference for veterinarians, who naturally are first appealed to when an as yet relatively strange disease appears among a herd of swine. Hence the text is written in a technical form for the sake of precision. In the preparation of the text the literature of countries in which for many years the disease has constituted a permanent problem has been freely consulted. …
Parabos Dodsoni Barbour And Schultz: A Correction, Erwin Hinckley Barbour, C. Bertrand Schultz
Parabos Dodsoni Barbour And Schultz: A Correction, Erwin Hinckley Barbour, C. Bertrand Schultz
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
A Bos-like animal, Parabos dodsoni, was recently described by Barbour and Schultz (1941, "A New Fossil Bovid from Nebraska", Bull. Univ. Nebr. State Museum, Vol. II, No. 7, pp. 63-66, Figs. 24-27, December) as a new genus and species from the Pleistocene of Nebraska. Attention has been called to the writers by Dr. E. H. Colbert of the American Museum of Natural History that the name Parabos is preoccupied. Parabos was introduced as a generic name by C. Arambourg and J. Piveteau (1929, "Note preliminaire sur un Ruminant du Pliocene inferieur du Roussillon," C. R. Bull. Soc. Geol. de …

A Review Of The Daimonelix Problem, C. Bertrand Schultz
A Review Of The Daimonelix Problem, C. Bertrand Schultz
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
THE first paleontological expedition of the University of Nebraska State Museum was organized in the summer of 1891 and was led by Erwin H. Barbour, now Director Emeritus of the Museum. The most important and interesting discoveries made during the season were some very peculiar spiral fossils called by the field party "Devil's Corkscrews," or Daimonelix,l which were found in the Miocene deposits near Harrison in Sioux County, Nebraska. During the fifty years that have intervened scientists have tried to determine the origin of these strange forms. Several controversies arose, and although various theories have been proposed, none as yet …

The Effect Of Heat And Moisture On The Feeding Value Of Pilchard Meal, William B. Lanham, Hugo W. Nilson
The Effect Of Heat And Moisture On The Feeding Value Of Pilchard Meal, William B. Lanham, Hugo W. Nilson
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
The fish meals produced today have in general proved to be excellent sources of protein for the balancing of farm-animal rations. Some potential users, however, have refrained from feeding these products because of reports implying that fish meals, when fed to farm animals and poultry, have cause symptoms of toxicity.
It was considered possible that the meals suspected of producing toxic symptoms may have been subjected to conditions after manufacture that had altered them in an unsatisfactory manner. Therefore, the effect of excessive heat and humidity to simulate extremely unsatisfactory storage conditions was studied with pilchard meal.
Pilchard meal was …
