Hubel and Wiesel (1970) described a "critical period" in the developing visual system of the cat extending from birth through the first three to four months of life based upon the ocular dominance condition of cortical neurons in monocularly deprived (MD) cats. Monocular deprivation during this period resulted in ocular dominance shifting in favor of the nondeprived eye. They determined that the effects of monocular deprivation were approximately proportional to the period of deprivation with a maximum sensitivity during the fourth and fifth week. The Relationship Between Religious Orientations And Levels Of Moral Judgment., Logan C. Jones

This paper will investigate the possible relationships between religious orientations and morality. While it is generally assumed that religion and morality are related, previous research has not supported this contention. The evidence to date indicates that only a slight or even negligible correlation exists between religion and morality (see Hartshorne and May, 1928; Kilpatrick, 1949; Black and London, 1966; Batson, 1976). This research has mainly concentrated on overt behaviors; for example, religion has been defined as the frequency of church attendance and morality has been defined in terms of altruism.

A large amount of genetic variability exists in the size and functional characteristics of male gonads between strains of inbred mice (Shire and Bartke, 1972; Hayward, 1973: Eleftheriou and Lucas, 1974). Shire and Bartke noted marked variations in both the absolute and relative postnatal testicular weights in 11 strains from 56 to 112 days of age. The relative weight (mg of testes/100g of body weight) increased for most strains. The DBA/2J strain increased by 123mg, the C57BL/6J by 84mg and the AKR/J strain by only 45mg. The C57BL/10J strain however was unique in that it showed a decrease of 235mg …

A computer program has been developed for dose distribution calculations associated with an intrauterine applicator. The program reconstructs the exact source positions from two orthogonal x-ray projections. The dosages delivered to reference points A and B are calculated. In addition, isodose curves are constructed on selected planes from which approximate three-dimensional dose distributions can be reconstructed.

Lens systems that modify the irradiance distribution of a collimated beam of radiation are useful primarily in applications involving laser beams. Since a laser is a source of high intensity, coherent, monochromatic light, a number of diverse applications for lasers have been suggested. However, the laser beam does not have uniform distribution of light intensity across its diameter and there are many cases where this is a severe drawback.

The computer program developed previously for calculating the predictions of the Weakly Bound Projectile model for (d,p) and (d,n) reactions on spin-zero target nuclei, has been modified to calculate the angular distributions for tensor analyzing components T20 and T22. Comparison has been made with the measured values for the reactions 52Cr(d,p)53cr (ground state, Jn = 3/2, Ï€=-1, Q = 5.719 MeV) and 52Cr(d,p)53cr (first excited state, Jn = 1/2, Ï€ = -1, Q = 5.149 MeV) to study the Jn dependence of the calculated analyzing power, to test the n model, and to determine the dependence of the calculations on …

The process of reading requires that an efficient transition be made from a visual symbol to a word name and to its meaning. For most adults this process is relatively easy. The experienced reader does not have to consciously spell out every letter or word to arrive at the meaning of a sentence; however, the case is different for children who are learning to read. The translation from a visual symbol to a word name and its meaning is a seemingly difficult one.

Our interest in the conversion of a resin acid to a C-aryl-18-nor-steroid was to see if this class of compounds could compete as starting materials in the medicinal chemistry field. Since resin acid derivatives are rather inexpensive compared to steroid systems, the economics seemed attractive.In order to cyclize a ring D onto the resin acid skeleton, it was important to convert the isopropyl group to an acetyl group. To achieve this goal, the Tahara modification of the Sanderson oxidation of dehydroabietonitrile was applied, to yield the 7-oxo-13-acetyl dehydroabietonitrile and the 7-oxo-13-isopropenyl derivative.Treating the diketone with formaldehyde and dimethylamine hydro-chloride, yielded …
