The present work describes a potentiometric procedure for the determination of hydrogen peroxide using an immobilized enzyme and a fluoride ion-selective electrode. The reaction between hydrogen peroxide and certain organo-fluoro compounds is catalyzed by the enzyme horseradish peroxidase to release fluoride ions.

Extraversion, anxiety, and two different experimental conditions were varied independently in a 2 x 2 x 2 study of eyeblink conditioning and extinction. The Eysenck Personality Inventory and the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale were given to 167 college students of both sexes to measure individual differences in extraversion and anxiety, respectively. Students who scored in the upper or lower quartiles on these tests were classified as either anxious extraverts, non-anxious extraverts, anxious introverts, or non-anxious introverts. Subjects learned under one or the other of two sets of conditions. One set--partial reinforcement, low UCS strength, and short CS-UCS interval--is expected to …

During the past three hundred years William Shakespeare’s Hamlet has been examined by a host of critics. In fact, L. C. Knights, in Some Shakespearean Themes and An Approach To Hamlet, claims that more has been written about Hamlet than about any other of Shakespeare’s plays. The majority of Hamlet criticism is based, although at times loosely, upon the Aristotelian concept of tragedy—that is, the tragic hero harbors a weakness, or "flaw," which destroys him.

In 1957 Fukada demonstrated that bone has piezoelectric properties, that is, bone produces electric current and potential in response to mechanical forces. The same phenomena were reported in 1962 by Bassett who found that the potentials developed in the area of compression were negative, and positive in the area of tension. In 1968 Cochran performed experiments on wet bone as well as in vivo experiments on cats. There was no difference between the potential patterns from dead or living bone in response to a mechanical force. In 1971 Marino suggested that collagen was the source of a piezoelectric potential.

Two-level grammars (2LGs) have traditionally been used to define the syntax and semantics of programming languages. However, this paper will show that 2LGs can also be used to describe the syntax of English sentences, as well as to perform context checks to ensure that an English sentence is grammatical. Briefly stated, the metarules of a 2 LG may be used to generate an English sentence, much in the same way as a context-free grammar might. Once the sentence is generated, the hyperrules of the 2LG may be used to verify that the sentence exhibits subject/verb agreement, subject/object agreement (if required), …

The induction motor is the major power utilization component in a large industrial plant. A typical plant will have several dispersed motors operating at certain speeds and loadings while other motors are at a standstill. When a large motor is switched onto the distribution system, a disturbance is created which will impact the operation of running motors and other equipment electrically removed from the point of connection. For instance, a large motor started across-the-line will have an inrush current of from five to eight times its normal full-load value, and damage to the motor can result. The identification of individual source is one of the main objectives of the forensic serologist when analyzing blood, bloodstains, or other body fluids. Certainly, the more we know about a specific blood sample, the more we can learn about an alleged criminal act. All individuality is due to variations between people or things, and blood is no exception (Sensabaugh, 1982). Numerous enzymes and other proteins occur in various forms in the blood and other body fluids. These different forms of proteins in a population (polymorphism) exhibit demonstrable genetic variation.

Frequently the need to identify or exclude an individual arises in criminal cases. Historically, fingerprinting has been a universally acceptable method of individual identification. Unfortunately, fingerprints are not always found at the crime scene ; therefore, other methods for identification of an individual are needed. One of these is the typing of body fluids, particularly blood, for genetic markers that may distinguish one individual from another.

An intermediate language for compilers, called CL-code, is presented which allows the combined advantages of direct interpretation and usage as an intermediate form in machine code generation. CL-code is an intermediate code defined to execute on a virtual stack machine and is machine— independent. Its design permits implementation by more than a single method - CL-code may be interpreted by simulating the virtual machine with software, or CL-code may be translated into the machine code of an actual machine.Independence from the method of implementation derives from two sources. Studies on the localization of acrosomal enzymes have shown that a heat stable component in non-immune serum binds to the acrosomal region of spermatozoa of a number of species (Weil and Finkler, 1959; Edwards, 1960). Beck et al. (1962) demonstrated by immunofluorescent techniques that this serum component is an immunoglobulin molecule and it can bind to both the acrosome and tail region of homologous and heterologous spermatozoa. Symons and Herbert (1971) characterized it as IgG in the mouse, while Johnson (1968) showed it to be IgG2 in the guinea pig. IgM and IgA do not show detectable binding to mammalian …

Piscine responsiveness to exogenous mammalian gonadotropin injection was assessed in Fundulus grandis, the Gulf killifish. Responsiveness was measured through the reproductive parameters of plasma sex steriod levels (estrogen for the female and testosterone for the male animals) as well as gonadalsomatic indexes, GSI. Females were also evaluated on the microscopic and macroscopic appearance of the ovary. Injections of ovine luteinizing hormone (o-LH) were made at different times of the day (early, midday, and late) as well as during times of differing reproductive condition (different times of the year).
