The Effect Of Fine And Gross Motor Skill Training On The Reading And Mathematics Achievement Scores Of First Grade Students., Sarah Margaret Kneisley

The purpose of this study was to determine if the development of fine and gross motor skills contributed to reading and mathematics achievement scores among first grade students. The study was conducted using a pretest/posttest control group design. The 43 first grade students were randomly assigned to experimental and control group conditions. Experimental group subjects participated in an eight-week (23-hour) training program during the spring of 1983. The control group subjects were pretested prior to the treatment program and posttested at the conclusion to determine mathematics achievement, reading achievement, and motor proficiency. Area navigation computers are used extensively by the military and commercial airlines to fly straight routes between two points. The electronic equipment used by these types of aircraft to provide position input to the area navigation computer is inherently expensive. As a result, private owners of light general aviation aircraft cannot afford this much needed capability. This thesis documents a system based on the Motorola MC68000 microprocessor, a single VOR radio receiver, and a Loran-C radio receiver which will provide exceptional area navigation capability at a relatively moderate cost.

The activated sludge process is used by the coal-coking industry to treat toxic substances from the wastewater generated by the coking process. High levels of ammonia, phenol, cyanide, and thiocyanate are removed from the wastewater by the activity of a mixed microbial community. Though the microbes efficiently remove the toxic compounds, they in turn create a problem: the removal of the biomass that is generated in the degradation of these compounds. The transport and disposal of the excess sludge results in what is possibly the largest cost factor in the activated sludge treatment of wastewater.Because the microbial community is essential …

It is well known that phosphorus is an essential nutrient for the growth of organisms. Therefore, it plays an important role as a growth-limiting nutrient in natural waters. Phosphorus-stimulated proliferation of plant micro- and macroorganisms in natural waters accelerates eutrophication thereby endangering larger aquatic life. Continual discharge of phosphorus-containing wastewater, agricultural drainage, and industrial wastes into bodies of water can result in the long-term destruction of the existing ecosystems. Monitoring of phosphorus concentrations in effluents and natural waters has, therefore, become a necessary regimen in environmental pollution control.

Education And Public Health In Mexico And Saudi Arabia: 1950 - 1980., Harry Griggs Hamilton

This paper reviews social policy and its effect on education and public health in Mexico and Saudi Arabia during the period from 1950 to 1980. A case study approach is employed to test the hypothesis that both Mexican and Saudi Arabian social policy was patterned after the Western European model of modernization, and that this emulation approach limited the effectiveness of education and public health efforts as measured by literacy rates, educational level, replacement of expatriates (only in Saudi Arabia), life expectancy, nutritional level, and incidence of disease associated with underdevelopment. It is estimated there are over thirty million edentulous people in the United States alone. In this population the use of conventional treatment modalities, i.e., full or partial removable dentures, has been demonstrated to result in: (1) loss of alveolar bone height with subsequent inability to retain a denture, (2) inflammation of surrounding gingival tissue with concomitant pain and decreased retentive capabilities, and (3) accelerated loss of natural supporting dentition (8,24,30). In the patient population exhibiting edentulous posterior regions (represented schematically in Figure 1), one or more of these problems are often manifested.
