Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating Of Earthenware From The Nam Tok Khao Pang Archaeological Site, Kanchanaburi, Thailand, Thananan Phetkongtong, Peerasak Klubket, Santi Pailoplee, Pichet Limsuwan, Voranuch Thongpool

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

The Nam Tok Khao Pang archaeological site, located in Tha Sao subdistrict, Sai Yok district, Kanchanaburi province, Thailand, is a limestone cave where numerous artifacts, including black-burnished earthenware fragments with in-curving rims, out-curving rims, and carinated bodies, have been discovered. Mineralogical and microstructural analyses using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) identified quartz (SiO₂) as the dominant mineral phase within a partially sintered silicate matrix. The absence of vitrification and the presence of mineral impurities indicate that the earthenware was fired at temperatures between 900°C and 1000°C. To determine the age of these ceramics, …

Crack Development Of Electroplated Niw Alloys And Their Wettability And Tribological Properties, Jidsucha Darayen, Suwat Ploypech, Martin Metzner, Claudia Beatriz Dos Santos, Petch Jearanaisilawong, Yuttanant Boonyongmaneerat

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

This study investigates how sodium tungstate concentration (20–46 wt.%) and current density (40–60 A/dm²) affect the microstructure, wettability, mechanical properties, and tribological behavior of electrodeposited Ni-W coatings. Results show that increasing current density markedly raises crack density (from <100 to >400 cracks/cm²), while tungstate concentration has minimal effect. XRD confirms Ni-W solid solution formation, with higher tungsten content refining grains and increasing hardness—peaking at 900 HV at 50 A/dm² (an 80% rise from 500 HV at 40 A/dm²). However, excessive stress at 60 A/dm² leads to microcracking and hardness plateauing (~650–700 HV). Higher crack density improves wettability (contact angle ~17°), enhancing lubricant …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

This study investigates and compares the effects of the starting microstructure on the double intercritical annealing (DIA) process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 0.11%C-2.39%Mn-0.45%Si dual phase steel. The specimens were austenitized, followed by water quenching (WQ) or air cooling (AC), then DIA at 730°C. For the WQ method, high cooling rate results in the formation of a high strength martensitic structure. Conversely, AC method yields a moderate cooling rate, forming a bainitic structure. After single intercritical annealing (SIA), the microstructure transformed into ferrite and martensite. WQ method specimens contain high stress concentration, leading to earlier recrystallization compared to …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Elevating the selectivity of two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e‒ ORR) is challenging. Herein, the hydroxyl combined with nitrogen on biomass carbon exhibits a high H2O2 selectivity over a wide potential range of 0 V to 0.5 V vs. RHE, which is nearly 97% at 0.3 V vs. RHE. The combination of hydroxyl and nitrogen improves the adsorption and desorption of intermediates, finally changing the reaction pathway and promoting the selectivity of 2e‒ ORR. The Faradaic efficiency (FE) reaches 98% at 0.3 V vs. RHE. Furthermore, the typical organic pollutants were degraded on site in flow cell. This work illustrates the …
