Cross-Layer Design Of Highly Scalable And Energy-Efficient Ai Accelerator Systems Using Photonic Integrated Circuits, Sairam Sri Vatsavai

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has experienced remarkable success in recent years, solving complex computational problems across various domains, including computer vision, natural language processing, and pattern recognition. Much of this success can be attributed to the advancements in deep learning algorithms and models, particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). In recent times, deep ANNs have achieved unprecedented levels of accuracy, surpassing human capabilities in some cases. However, these deep ANN models come at a significant computational cost, with billions to trillions of parameters. Recent trends indicate that the number of parameters per ANN model will continue to grow exponentially in the foreseeable …

A Novel Processor Architecture Implementing The Stacked Error Diffusion Algorithm And Its Zynq-Based Realization, Qishi Hu 2024 University of Kentucky

A Novel Processor Architecture Implementing The Stacked Error Diffusion Algorithm And Its Zynq-Based Realization, Qishi Hu

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

Digital halftoning reproduces continuous-tone images using patterns of black and white dots, while multitoning extends this concept by incorporating inks with intermediate intensities. These techniques are extensively utilized in the printing industry to accommodate the limited range of inks available in printers. Stacked error diffusion is a high-quality multitoning algorithm that adheres to the blue-noise dithering standard. This thesis research studies the potential parallelism inherent in the algorithm and introduces the design of a novel processor architecture optimized for efficient execution. The architecture is realized on an FPGA development board featuring a Zynq SoC. Additionally, the hardware prototype can also …

The Impact Of Social Media On Charitable Giving For Nonprofit Organization, Namchul Shin 2024 Pace University - New York

The Impact Of Social Media On Charitable Giving For Nonprofit Organization, Namchul Shin

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Research has extensively studied nonprofit organizations’ use of social media for communications and interactions with supporters. However, there has been limited research examining the impact of social media on charitable giving. This research attempts to address the gap by empirically examining the relationship between the use of social media and charitable giving for nonprofit organizations. We employ a data set of the Nonprofit Times’ top 100 nonprofits ranked by total revenue for the empirical analysis. As measures for social media traction, i.e., how extensively nonprofits draw supporters on their social media sites, we use Facebook Likes, Twitter Followers, and Instagram …

Detecting Crustose Coralline Algae (Cca) In Marine Photos Using Mask R-Cnn, Vrushali Harshwardhan Deshpande

Master's Projects

Coral reefs, made up of thousands of polyps - tiny sac-like marine invertebrates sea anemones and jellyfish, are important to marine ecosystems and prevent loss of life by acting as a natural barrier against storms, floods, and waves. These reefs support a wide range of species, many of which are underexplored and new species being discovered regularly. Crustose coralline algae (CCA) is one of the vital algal species that provides reef structure. Studying the abundance of CCA is important in helping marine biologists analyze coral reef health while understanding the impact of climate change on the marine lifeforms. This study …

Exploring Fluctuations In Working Memory Load Through Pupillometry Using Gabor Image Deletion Tasks, Neenu Antony

Master's Projects

Van der Wel & Van Steenbergen mention that there has been a surge in pupillometry research in the past two decades, particularly in the area of task-evoked pupil dilation in the context of cognitive control tasks. The goal of most of these studies has been focused on finding a link between pupil dilation and effort exerted by an individual [10]. The review by authors Van der Wel & Van Steenbergen, aimed to assess the potential of pupil dilation as an indicator of effort rather than task complexity. Their analysis revealed that heightened task demands in domains such as updating, switching, …

Noteblocklib: A Library For Physics- And Animation-Driven Virtual Midi Instruments For Use In Video Games, Kevin Rotunni 2024 San Jose State University

Noteblocklib: A Library For Physics- And Animation-Driven Virtual Midi Instruments For Use In Video Games, Kevin Rotunni

Master's Projects

To better capture the relationship between the performer of a piece of music and the music itself in a video game context, I have designed NoteBlockLib, a system by which MIDI instructions are generated and processed in real time based on the motion and collision data of in-game objects. Ultimately, the movement of instruments made using this system would be driven by the animations of a character in the game. This system would thus allow the player character to interact with the performer in the game without sacrificing the relationship between the performer’s actions and the resulting music or to …

Data Quality Based Intelligent Instrument Selection With Security Integration, Sergei Chuprov, Raman Zatsarenko, Leon Reznik, Igor Khokhlov

School of Computer Science & Engineering Faculty Publications

We propose a novel Data Quality with Security (DQS) integrated instrumentation selection approach that facilitates aggregation of multi-modal data from heterogeneous sources. As our major contribution, we develop a framework that incorporates multiple levels of integration in finding the best DQS-based instrument selection: data fusion from multi-modal sensors embedded into heterogeneous platforms, using multiple quality and security metrics and knowledge integration. Our design addresses the security aspect in the instrumentation design, which is commonly overlooked in real applications, by aggregating it with other metrics into an integral DQS calculus. We develop DQS calculus that formalizes the problem of finding the …
