Determining Unique Agents By Evaluating Web Form Interaction, Ben Cooley

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Because of the inherent risks in today’s online activities, it becomes imperative to identify a malicious user masquerading as someone else. Incorporating biometric analysis enhances the confidence of authenticating valid users over the Internet while providing additional layers of security with no hindrance to the end user. Through the analysis of traffic patterns and HTTP Header analysis, the detection and early refusal of robot agents plays a great role in reducing fraudulent login attempts.

Mitigating Interference During Virtual Machine Live Migration Through Storage Offloading, Morgan S. Stuart 2016 Virginia Commonwealth University

Mitigating Interference During Virtual Machine Live Migration Through Storage Offloading, Morgan S. Stuart

Theses and Dissertations

Today's cloud landscape has evolved computing infrastructure into a dynamic, high utilization, service-oriented paradigm. This shift has enabled the commoditization of large-scale storage and distributed computation, allowing engineers to tackle previously untenable problems without large upfront investment. A key enabler of flexibility in the cloud is the ability to transfer running virtual machines across subnets or even datacenters using live migration. However, live migration can be a costly process, one that has the potential to interfere with other applications not involved with the migration. This work investigates storage interference through experimentation with real-world systems and well-established benchmarks. In order to …

Representation And Analysis Of Multi-Modal, Nonuniform Time Series Data: An Application To Survival Prognosis Of Oncology Patients In An Outpatient Setting, Jennifer Winikus

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

The representation of nonuniform, multi-modal, time-limited time series data is complex and explored through the use of discrete representation, dimensionality reduction with segmentation based techniques, and with behavioral representation approaches. These explorations are done with a focus on an outpatient oncology setting with the classification and regression analysis being used for length of survival prognosis. Each decision of representation and analysis is not independent, with implications of each decision in method for how the data is represented and then which analysis technique is used. One unique aspect of the work is the use of outpatient clinical data for patients, which …

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The selection of shortest path problem is one the classic problems in graph theory. In literature, many algorithms have been developed to provide a solution for shortest path problem in a network. One of common algorithms in solving shortest path problem is Dijkstra’s algorithm. In this paper, Dijkstra’s algorithm has been redesigned to handle the case in which most of parameters of a network are uncertain and given in terms of neutrosophic numbers. Finally, a numerical example is given to explain the proposed algorithm.

The four systems we needed to consider for the implementation of this project were the power system, the sensing system, the data processing system, and the reporting and logging system. Power pulled from the vehicle will enable the sensors and data processing module. The data processing module will analyze the readings from the …

In-Field Fuel Use And Load States Of Agricultural Field Machinery, Santosh Pitla, Joe D. Luck, Jared Werner, Nannan Lin, Scott A. Shearer 2016 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

In-Field Fuel Use And Load States Of Agricultural Field Machinery, Santosh Pitla, Joe D. Luck, Jared Werner, Nannan Lin, Scott A. Shearer

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

The ability to define in-field tractor load states offers the potential to better specify and characterize fuel consumption rate for various field operations. For the same field operation, the tractor experiences diverse load demands and corresponding fuel use rates as it maneuvers through straight passes, turns, suspended operation for adjustments, repair and maintenance, and biomass or other material transfer operations. It is challenging to determine the actual fuel rate and load states of agricultural machinery using force prediction models, and hence, some form of in-field data acquisition capability is required. Controller Area Networks (CAN) available on the current model tractors …

Autonomous Navigation With Obstacle Avoidance For Unmanned Aircraft Systems Using Milp, James A. Devens 2016 Virginia Commonwealth University

Autonomous Navigation With Obstacle Avoidance For Unmanned Aircraft Systems Using Milp, James A. Devens

Theses and Dissertations

Autonomous coordination among multiple aerial vehicles to ensure a collision free airspace is a critical aspect of today’s airspace. With the rise of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the military and commercial sectors, obstacle avoidance in a densely populated airspace is necessary. This thesis investigates finding optimal or near-optimal trajectories in real-time for aircraft in complex airspaces containing a large number of obstacles. The solution for the trajectories is described as a linear program subject to mixed integer constraints, known as a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP). The resulting MILP problem is solved in real time using a well-known, public …

Tool Support For Reasoning In Display Calculi, Samuel Balco, Sabine Frittella, Giuseppe Greco, Alexander Kurz, Alessandra Palmigiano

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

We present a tool for reasoning in and about propositional sequent calculi. One aim is to support reasoning in calculi that contain a hundred rules or more, so that even relatively small pen and paper derivations become tedious and error prone. As an example, we implement the display calculus D.EAK of dynamic epistemic logic. Second, we provide embeddings of the calculus in the theorem prover Isabelle for formalising proofs about D.EAK. As a case study we show that the solution of the muddy children puzzle is derivable for any number of muddy children. Third, there is a set of meta-tools, …

Challenging The Efficient Market Hypothesis With Dynamically Trained Artificial Neural Networks, Kevin M. Harper 2016 University of North Florida

Challenging The Efficient Market Hypothesis With Dynamically Trained Artificial Neural Networks, Kevin M. Harper

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A review of the literature applying Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) based Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to market forecasting leads to three observations: 1) It is clear that simple ANNs, like other nonlinear machine learning techniques, are capable of approximating general market trends 2) It is not clear to what extent such forecasted trends are reliably exploitable in terms of profits obtained via trading activity 3) Most research with ANNs reporting profitable trading activity relies on ANN models trained over one fixed interval which is then tested on a separate out-of-sample fixed interval, and it is not clear to what extent these …

Threats to enterprises have become widespread in the last decade. A major source of such threats originates from insiders who have legitimate access to the organization's internal systems and databases. Therefore, preventing or responding to such incidents has become a challenging task. Digital forensics has grown into a de-facto standard in the examination of electronic evidence; however, a key barrier is often being able to associate an individual to the stolen data. Stolen credentials and the Trojan defense are two commonly cited arguments used. This paper proposes a model that can more inextricably links the use of information (e.g. images, …

The Information Of Spam, Sawyer C. Anderson 2015 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

The Information Of Spam, Sawyer C. Anderson

Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

This paper explores the value of information contained in spam tweets as it pertains to prediction accuracy. As a case study, tweets discussing Bitcoin were collected and used to predict the rise and fall of Bitcoin value. Precision of prediction both with and without spam tweets, as identified by a naive Bayesian spam filter, were measured. Results showed a minor increase in accuracy when spam tweets were included, indicating that spam messages likely contain information valuable for prediction of market fluctuations.

Estimation On Gibbs Entropy For An Ensemble, Lekhya Sai Sake 2015 Lekhya Sai Sake

Estimation On Gibbs Entropy For An Ensemble, Lekhya Sai Sake

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

In this world of growing technology, any small improvement in the present scenario would create a revolution. One of the popular revolutions in the computer science field is parallel computing. A single parallel execution is not sufficient to see its non-deterministic features, as same execution with the same data at different time would end up with a different path. In order to see how non deterministic a parallel execution can extend up to, creates the need of the ensemble of executions. This project implements a program to estimate the Gibbs Entropy for an ensemble of parallel executions. The goal is …
