Analysis Of The Adherence Of Mhealth Applications To Hipaa Technical Safeguards, Bilash Saha

Master of Science in Information Technology Theses

The proliferation of mobile health technology, or mHealth apps, has made it essential to protect individual health details. People now have easy access to digital platforms that allow them to save, share, and access their medical data and treatment information as well as easily monitor and manage health-related issues. It is crucial to make sure that protected health information (PHI) is effectively and securely transmitted, received, created, and maintained in accordance with the rules outlined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as the use of mHealth apps increases. Unfortunately, many mobile app developers, particularly those of mHealth …

Role Of Ai In Threat Detection And Zero-Day Attacks, Kelly Morgan

Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase

Cybercrime and attack methods have been steadily increasing since the 2019 pandemic. In the years following 2019, the number of victims and attacks per hour rapidly increased as businesses and organizations transitioned to digital environments for business continuity amidst lockdowns. In most scenarios cybercriminals continued to use conventional attack methods and known vulnerabilities that would cause minimal damage to an organization with a robust cyber security posture. However, zero-day exploits have skyrocketed across all industries with an increasingly growing technological landscape encompassing internet of things (IoT), cloud hosting, and more advanced mobile technologies. Reports by Mandiant Threat Intelligence (2022) concluded …

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Blockchain technology has been an emerging technology in recent years. Its nature of decentralization and anonymity enables many applications to be built in a trustless environment but can still be validated and agreed upon by all the participants. Ever since the invention of blockchain technology, its concepts and forms are explored extensively, and it has shown the potential to be used in many industries. However, the low efficiency and the poor performance have prevented the technology to be adopted in practical largescale usage. In this dissertation, we present three major works around blockchain technology. The first one is BPU, an …

Resource Management In Mobile Edge Computing For Compute-Intensive Application, Xiaojie Zhang 2023 CUNY Graduate Center

Resource Management In Mobile Edge Computing For Compute-Intensive Application, Xiaojie Zhang

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

With current and future mobile applications (e.g., healthcare, connected vehicles, and smart grids) becoming increasingly compute-intensive for many mission-critical use cases, the energy and computing capacities of embedded mobile devices are proving to be insufficient to handle all in-device computation. To address the energy and computing shortages of mobile devices, mobile edge computing (MEC) has emerged as a major distributed computing paradigm. Compared to traditional cloud-based computing, MEC integrates network control, distributed computing, and storage to customizable, fast, reliable, and secure edge services that are closer to the user and data sites. However, the diversity of applications and a variety …

Data Integration Based Human Activity Recognition Using Deep Learning Models, Basamma Umesh Patil, D V Ashoka, Ajay Prakash B. V

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Regular monitoring of physical activities such as walking, jogging, sitting, and standing will help reduce the risk of many diseases like cardiovascular complications, obesity, and diabetes. Recently, much research showed that the effective development of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) will help in monitoring the physical activities of people and aid in human healthcare. In this concern, deep learning models with a novel automated hyperparameter generator are proposed and implemented to predict human activities such as walking, jogging, walking upstairs, walking downstairs, sitting, and standing more precisely and robustly. Conventional HAR systems are unable to manage real-time changes in the surrounding …

Enhancing Query Processing On Stock Market Cloud-Based Database, Hagger Essam, Ahmed G. Elish, Essam M. shaban 2023 Helwan Univesity

Enhancing Query Processing On Stock Market Cloud-Based Database, Hagger Essam, Ahmed G. Elish, Essam M. Shaban

Future Computing and Informatics Journal

Cloud computing is rapidly expanding because it allows users to save the development and implementation time on their work. It also reduces the maintenance and operational costs of the used systems. Furthermore, it enables the elastic use of any resource rather than estimating workload, which may be inaccurate, as database systems can benefit from such a trend. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that allocates the materialized view over cloud-based replica sets to enhance the database system's performance in stock market using a Peer-to-Peer architecture. The results show that the proposed model improves the query processing time and network …

Personalized Point Of Interest Recommendations With Privacy-Preserving Techniques, Longyin Cui 2023 University of Kentucky

Personalized Point Of Interest Recommendations With Privacy-Preserving Techniques, Longyin Cui

Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science

Location-based services (LBS) have become increasingly popular, with millions of people using mobile devices to access information about nearby points of interest (POIs). Personalized POI recommender systems have been developed to assist users in discovering and navigating these POIs. However, these systems typically require large amounts of user data, including location history and preferences, to provide personalized recommendations.

The collection and use of such data can pose significant privacy concerns. This dissertation proposes a privacy-preserving approach to POI recommendations that address these privacy concerns. The proposed approach uses clustering, tabular generative adversarial networks, and differential privacy to generate synthetic user …

The Need For International Ai Activities Monitoring, Parviz Partow-Navid, Ludwig Slusky 2023 California State University, Los Angeles

The Need For International Ai Activities Monitoring, Parviz Partow-Navid, Ludwig Slusky

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

This paper focuses primarily on the need to monitor the risks arising from the dual-use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Dual-use AI technology capability makes it applicable for defense systems and consequently may pose significant security risks, both intentional and unintentional, with the national and international scope of effects. While domestic use of AI remains the prerogative of individual countries, the unregulated and nonmonitored use of AI with international implications presents a specific concern. An international organization tasked with monitoring potential threats of AI activities could help defuse AI-associated risks and promote global cooperation in developing and deploying AI technology. The …

A Novel Approach To Detecting And Mitigating Keyloggers, Damilola Osedumbi Elelegwu

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

As the digital world gets increasingly ingrained in our daily lives, cyberattacks—especially those involving malware—are growing more complex and common, which calls for developing innovative safeguards. Keylogger spyware, which combines keylogging and spyware functionalities, is one of the most insidious types of cyberattacks. This malicious software stealthily monitors and records user keystrokes, amassing sensitive data, such as passwords and confidential personal information, which can then be exploited. This research work introduces a novel browser extension designed to thwart keylogger spyware attacks effectively. The extension is underpinned by a cutting-edge algorithm that meticulously analyzes input-related processes, promptly identifying and flagging any …

Improving The Performance, Energy Efficiency And Security Of Gpus, Xin Wang 2023 Virginia Commonwealth University

Improving The Performance, Energy Efficiency And Security Of Gpus, Xin Wang

Theses and Dissertations

The work in this dissertation achieves to enhance the performance, energy-efficiency, and security of the GPUs. We noticed that, as the demand of hardware resources keeps rising in GPUs, the energy consumption becomes unaffordable and places barriers for further performance boost. To resolve this issue, we have proposed several novel GPU micro-architectures that are able to assist the GPUs to execute in an energy-efficient manner. They also provide the potential for further performance enhancement in GPUs. Firstly, we proposed a GPU register packing scheme that stores multiple narrow-width operands to a single register to save register file resources. The unoccupied …
