Background: The COVID-19 pandemic presented unique and unprecedented challenges for international students, those studying at institutions of higher education outside of their home countries, due to their distinct circumstances and vulnerabilities. This literature review examines the multifaceted mental health burdens they experienced and highlights the need for targeted support and interventions. Methods: A rigorous search across three databases (i.e., PubMed, PsycINFO, and ERIC) yielded 50 empirical studies for inclusion in this literature review. A six-phase thematic analysis framework was employed to identify and synthesize key themes. Researchers in this quantitative study explored the impact of syllabus tone on master-level counseling students (N = 124). Findings indicate statistically significant differences between students’ reactions to syllabi language, with greater student retention of the content within the warm syllabus condition and more favorable perceptions of the instructor and their grading practices. Implications for counselor educators are included.

High school counselors in North Carolina assist with post-secondary planning for all their students, including the approximately 3,000 undocumented students who graduate from North Carolina schools each year (Zong & Batalova, 2019). Access to post-secondary education is difficult to attain for undocumented students (Groce & Johnson, 2021), especially true for undocumented students in North Carolina, a state considered hostile to this student population due to tuition and financial aid policy (Mansfield & Hernandez, 2024). Undocumented students also face a fear of deportation, food insecurity, lower socioeconomic conditions, and language barriers (Abrego, 2006).

This study explores the concept of “a graceful pedagogy” as a framework for academic advising within two-year community colleges, with a focus on supporting students who identify as Black and male. This study aims to develop a metaverse-based Virtual Reality Counseling (VRC) medium to support psychological services for students with special needs. The research method used is the research and development method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The results show that the metaverse-based VRC medium has met the media acceptability aspects, making it feasible for effective implementation. Additionally, experimental results indicate a decrease in the levels of mental health disorders experienced by the counselees after undergoing individual counseling assisted by the metaverse-based VRC medium.
