What common values do diverse Jesuit institutions share? In what ways are Jesuit colleges and universities working to maintain mission, identity, and traditions within the context of 21st-century higher education? To ground their response to these questions, the researchers first review the historical and ecclesial developments that have influenced the mission and identity of Catholic institutions of higher education (IHEs). They discuss the resulting changes in the vision of US Jesuit colleges and universities and trace the impact of the theological shift fostered by Vatican II documents and the Land O’Lakes statement on Catholic colleges and universities in general and …

To date, one of the greatest successes in the field of public health has been the nationwide awareness campaign about the negative health effects of smoking cigarettes and using tobacco. Smoking and tobacco use have been associated with a number of health problems including the increased risk of cancers and cardiovascular diseases (Office on Smoking and Health 446). Quality assurance of academic programs that lead to licensure or certification in a profession traditionally has been through the industry-recognized accreditation body. There have been a limited number of studies on whether accreditation is associated with better program quality and outcomes; the purpose of this study was to add to that body of literature by comparing accredited and non-accredited programs. The quality dimensions associated with the study are standards-related program inputs such as admissions criteria, faculty resources and qualifications, and outcomes, as reflected by clinical examination results and program completion rates.

A Comparative Analysis Of Student Survey Results From Non-Traditional University Students, Cheryl Lynn Betz

This study addressed the student support service needs of non-traditional undergraduate students at University D. An analysis of student satisfaction survey results from 2012 – 2014 allowed for a longitudinal comparison of the data for commonalities and potential relationships. The results indicated that importance ratings did not vary greatly from year-to-year, while satisfaction ratings variation ranged from .05 to .89. Further, the relationship between importance and satisfaction ratings were deemed positive and statistically significant but the relationships were found to be mainly moderate or weak. Cronbach’s α was not obtained beyond the level recommended of .70 or above in order …

The African approach to management education has been shaped by a range of environmental, cultural, contextual and regional characteristics. Africa is by any measure a massive, multi-cultural, multi-lingual continent offering the promise of significant economic growth in the longer term. Nursing programs are experiencing a decline in National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) pass rates among graduates. While researchers have attempted to identify predictors of performance on the NCLEX-RN, identification of predictors remains elusive. Although the literature is replete with studies exploring NCLEX-RN predictors, prediction under the new 2013 NCLEX test plan and passing standards is not well established. With over 460,000 active student-athletes (NCAA, n.d.), the student sub-population is large enough to investigate potential options for institutions to increase their academic achievement. Additionally, participating in academic-related activities is especially important because of concerns about student-athletes spending more than the 20 hours per week the NCAA allows for working on their sport (Wolverton, 2008). This phenomenological study explored academic persistence for 10 nontraditional students pursuing business degrees at for-profit universities in southern Georgia and northern Virginia. The literature review provides a theoretical framework based on Tinto’s (1975) theory of persistence and Bandura’s (1993) self-efficacy theory. Data was collected through a demographic survey, timeline of significant events, in- depth survey, and a letter of advice. Data analysis included identifying significant statements, utilizing participant feedback to create structural and textural descriptions and ultimately describing the participant essences of their experiences. From 1930 to 1959, the black college student-run press was a prolific voice leading discussions about ways to eradicate racial discrimination, amass political currency, and nurture communal solidarity. Embedded in their mission was a desire to awaken their readers intellectually and emotionally to join a mounting movement toward racial liberation. Yet, historians have ignored this expansive network of black collegian editors and writers, who were a philosophical extension of the professional Black Press.

The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of Dual Enrollment teachers and high school counselors to compare and determine whether there are significant differences between their perceptions of college readiness among DE participants in South Alabama.
