Age-Related Changes On The Effects Of Job Characteristics On Job Satisfaction: A Longitudinal Analysis, Thomas M. Cavanagh, Kurt Kraiger, Kim L. Henry

Older adults constitute an increasingly large share of the workforce. Older workers often contribute positively to organizational outcomes through characteristics such as deep organizational knowledge and long-standing client relationships. Thus, it is important to understand how to maintain or increase older workers’ job satisfaction, a variable that has been linked to positive work outcomes. In this study, several hypotheses regarding job satisfaction and age were derived from Carstensen’s socioemotional selectivity theory and were tested using longitudinal analysis of a cross-sequential sample. In recent years, women in the Philippines have made strides in integrating into formal employment, attaining higher educational status, and claiming their social and economic autonomy. However, the gender wage gap persists in the labor market, especially in the manufacturing sector. This wage gap does not look at their willingness to join the manufacturing sector. The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA, 2019) found that, between the two sexes, the manufacturing and services sectors were highly concentrated with females. We investigate the psychological recovery process of full-time employees during the two-week period at the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Past research suggests that recovery processes start after stressors abate and can take months or years to unfold. In contrast, we build on autonomy restoration theory to suggest that recovery of impaired autonomy starts immediately even as a stressor is ongoing. Using growth curve modeling, we examined the temporal trajectories of two manifestations of impaired autonomy—powerlessness and (lack of) authenticity—to test whether recovery began as the pandemic unfolded. The study aims to analyse how the ownership structure of a family company affects the company’s performance. The company’s performance was measured using Tobin’s Q to see how the market re- sponds to strategies and policies taken by the family company. The study took samples of 147 family companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2009-2014. The results showed that the family company had significantly lower performance compared to non-family companies, but the relationship between ownership by the family is a quadratic in which there is a direction reversal at the 76% ownership rate.
