The Second Rebellion Of Satan: The Beautiful Raw Power Of The She-Other. An Interview With Violet Castro (Mario Morera, Pp. 16-19), Mario Morera 2024 Stephen F Austin State University

The Second Rebellion Of Satan: The Beautiful Raw Power Of The She-Other. An Interview With Violet Castro (Mario Morera, Pp. 16-19), Mario Morera

Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística

The idea of this interview was, in fact, born from the participation of Violet Castro in the anthology Inferno (The Infernal Clock, 2020.) Such text presents a series of short stories representing each of the nine circles of hell in Dante’s Divine Comedy. Her short story At the bottom of my lake of blood, inspired by circle number six, suggests to accompany its reading with the 1990’s song Seasons in the abyss, by the californian trash metal band Slayer. A particular daring trait in this short story is the fact that Satan is portrayed as woman. This interview took place …

Having a conversation with Santiago Vaquera-Vásquez, professor and Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of New Mexico, is like sitting down at your family table and sharing a deep conversation about the best tacos in town, experiences about crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, traveling across the globe, and everything in between. “So, Like… Tú Sabes”: An Approach To Bilingual Discourse Markers In Puerto Rican Spanish Oral Interaction (Piero Visconte, Pp. 21-45), Piero Visconte 2024 The University of Texas, Austin

“So, Like… Tú Sabes”: An Approach To Bilingual Discourse Markers In Puerto Rican Spanish Oral Interaction (Piero Visconte, Pp. 21-45), Piero Visconte

Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística

This paper examines discourse markers (DMs) (i.e., pues, entonces, you know, so, I mean, etc.) and their linguistic variations in contexts of English-Spanish interaction in Puerto Rico. This linguistic category represents an aspect of discourse analysis that has captivated great interest in recent years, since its “main function is to connect utterances to each other and to the larger context” (Crible and Blackwell 2020: 24). As shown in several sociolinguistic research articles conducted in the Puerto Rican diaspora of New York City in the last twenty years (Torres 1997, 2002; Lipski 2005), the profound and protracted contact between Spanish and …

Narratives Of Exile: Themes Of Displacement In Seghers, Duras, And Elio, Erin Consla 2024 University of New Mexico

Narratives Of Exile: Themes Of Displacement In Seghers, Duras, And Elio, Erin Consla

Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs

This thesis examines identity, memory, and displacement in the exile narratives of Anna Seghers, Marguerite Duras, and María Luisa Elío. I argue that identity post-exile can be conceptualized as a continuous process of becoming, marked by a kaleidoscope of past, present, and future. Several aesthetic maneuvers such as the use of elements of form, memories of childhood, and palimpsest are shared by the chosen narratives, resulting in similar negotiations with identity. Through analysis of the authors' aesthetic focalizations, it becomes clear that their binary subject positions are modulated by the liminality and contradictions inherent in identity creation after exile. The …

A New Nature Is Coming. We Will Be Repossessed, And The Spectres Of The Post-Natural Will Take The World. Predictions Of A New Symbiotic Earth In "Fafner" (2018) By Daniel Perez Navarro, Miguel Angel Albújar-Escuredo 2024 The University of Kansas

A New Nature Is Coming. We Will Be Repossessed, And The Spectres Of The Post-Natural Will Take The World. Predictions Of A New Symbiotic Earth In "Fafner" (2018) By Daniel Perez Navarro, Miguel Angel Albújar-Escuredo

Alambique. Revista académica de ciencia ficción y fantasía / Jornal acadêmico de ficção científica e fantasía

This paper engages in the debates about decentralizing the role of men in the world we live in. Byproducts of this new mindset are concepts such as the “Posthuman” (Braidotti 2012); the status of “Holobiont” (Haraway 2016), and the experiencing of a new “Coexistence” with the non-human (Morton 2018). I suggest the novel Fafner (2018) as a perfect sample of this intellectual debate from an artistic and fictional view. Using concepts from diverse fields of thinking and applying them to literary analysis, this paper will review the in-depth transformation of nature portrayed by Fafner’s narration. Additionally, it will accomplish …

El Público De Federico García Lorca A La Luz De María Zambrano, Giovanny Salas Torres 2024 University of Massachusetts, Amherst

El Público De Federico García Lorca A La Luz De María Zambrano, Giovanny Salas Torres

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies
