The Artist's Lament In 1528. Exile, Printing, And The Reformation, Alison Stewart
School of Art, Art History, and Design: Faculty Publications and Creative Activity
The plight of painters and other artists was not an easy one when the Reformation made inroads into German-speaking lands. Commissions for Catholic subjects and altarpieces dried up as a result of Lutheran influence. Two laments dating from the early Reformation period address the artist's situation. Both are brief, date from 1526 and 1528, and appear in different contexts - one in a letter of introduction and the other in a printed pamphlet. The first concerns the painter Hans Holbein the Younger (1497/98- 1543) whose portraits painted for King Henry VIII and his court indicate that the pictorial genre of …

Il gruppo Progetto Contrada Agnese (CAP) di American Excavations at Morgantina (AEM) ha iniziato nel 2013 un progetto di ricerca e scavo pluriennale, che si concentra su un'area probabilmente residenziale ubicata nella parte Ovest di Morgantina. Basandosi parzialmente sui risultati di una ricognizione geofisica effettuata nel 2012, lo scavo sta gia facendo venire alla luce i contorni e i partico-lari di un isolato situato lontano dal lusso e dalla grandezza dell'agorà. Making History: How Art Museums In The French Revolution Crafted A National Identity, 1789-1799, Anna E. Sido

This paper compares two art museums, both created during the French Revolution, that fostered national unity by promoting a cultural identity. By analyzing the use of preexisting architecture from the ancien régime, innovative displays of art and redefinitions of the museum visitor as an Enlightened citizen, this thesis explores the application of eighteenth-century philosophy to the formation of two museums. The first is the Musée Central des Arts in the Louvre and the second is the Musée des Monuments Français, both housed in buildings taken over by the Revolutionary government and present the seized property of the royal family and …
