Halio discusses anti-Semitism in Philip Roth's fiction that what might be called reverse anti-Semitism: the active reaction by Jews who are subjected to anti-Semitism. This paper investigates whether there is or is not a correlation between feminine perceptions of Communications and the relevance of the major. One Hundred Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students were asked to complete a survey that included basic student demographics as well as if they have taken courses within the major or know anyone within it, their perceived relevance of the major, and whether they believed it to be for males or females. In “Battling the Separate Spheres,” I argue that New Woman writers’ interventions into gender discourse at the end of the nineteenth century shaped the feminist pacifist protests of World War I. This analysis illustrates that the discourses of gender and war are intertwined: the rise of the women’s movement in the nineteenth century was positioned as a sex war, and the gender ideology of the separate spheres helped to justify World War I. Drawn from 24 in-depth interviews and 2 focus group discussions conducted since 2012 with Hong Kong men who buy sex (‘male clients’) in the Chinese sex industry, this paper discusses men’s involvement with commercial sex in relation to their male identity.

A few types of client masculinity have been identified: ‘Chicken worm’ (or McSex masculinity) refers to those men who are proud of paying for rather impersonal sex with as many women as they wish whilst ‘sunken boat’ (or Titanic masculinity) refers to those men who passionately seek intense emotional intimacy with sex workers. The power of desire and its often dangerous consequences are among the most important of human experiences, directing many of the choices we make throughout much of life. They mark and shape us, open us up in directions we never imagined possible, possess significance and hidden meanings we struggle with lifelong. Sometimes our desires lead to consequences we would never have chosen. But sex, and the ability it has to move and explode with a fierce power, is also one of the most precious and remarkable gifts we possess as human beings.

本研究旨在探討服務於香港中學，服務對象涉及華人女同志及男同志青少年的助人工作者之觀點；並勾勒出同性情慾、宗教、教育以及自殘行為之間的關係。本研究中的助人工作者，包括中學教師、服務於校內或校外之社工人員、服務於同志相關的非政府組織之女同志／跨性別社會運動人士。藉由研究學校對同性戀的接納包容程度，本研究旨在對香港青少年議題提供進一步的理解，並突顯蓄意的自我傷害行為與身為女同志、男同志及雙性戀者之間的關聯。採用質性研究取向，本項民族誌研究針對助人工作者前後共進行16次深入訪談，田野工作部份則是採取廣泛的參與觀察。研究發現部份涵蓋四大主題：在校談性／性慾特質（sexualities）之阻礙；個人的勉強意願與宗教之關聯；身為同性戀者容易有自殘傾向；對於自殘行為與女同志、男同志、雙性戀青少年之相似觀點。

This research study investigates the perspectives of service providers in working with Chinese lesbian and gay youth in Hong Kong secondary schools, and maps the relations between same-sex sexualities, religion, education, and self-harm. Service providers included secondary school teachers, social workers based on- and off-school sites, and lesbian/transgender activists working in non-government organizations serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. By studying the level of acceptance and tolerance of same-sex sexualities in schools, this study aims to provide further understanding into Hong Kong youth issues and to highlight the connections between deliberate self-harm behaviour and being a lesbian, gay, …

In this paper, I intend to look at the cinematic portrayals of male-bodied queerness in gay-themed films from the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. All three contexts have a similar long history of gender-bending and gender-crossing traditions, which still exist in contemporary forms today: the bakla from the Philippines, the kathoey of Thailand, and the waria of Indonesia. The paper will attempt to inter-reference these gender performances with each other, as well as articulate how concepts of genderphobia and homophobia operate within cinematic discourses from across this region.

本文將分析菲律賓、泰國及印尼以男同志為題材的電影中，在男性身上體現的酷兒特質。菲律賓、泰國及印尼這三個國家均有悠長的性別跨越傳統，而這些傳統亦隨著歷史演變，在現代社會以獨特的形態呈現：菲律賓的bakla、泰國的kathoey、及印尼的waria族群。透過三地例子的相互對照，本文嘗試探討不同的性別操演策略及性別體現，以及勾勒出性別恐懼及恐同意識如何透過電影影響該地區的主流性別論述。
