Within higher education, trans* students have become more visible and advocacy for them important. To support these claims, scholars have conducted research and produced literature on trans* college students’ identity development and experiences on campuses. However, the lived experiences of trans* educators working in colleges and universities are missing from the literature, consequently from the minds of scholars, practitioners, and administrators alike. An Exploration Of The Experience Of Female Same-Sex Marriage, Melissa Rose Mulick

In June 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of nationwide legalization of same-sex marriage. While same-sex marriage had previously been legalized in individual states, this ruling effectively increased the population of women legally married to other women. A review of research historically conducted on female same-sex relationships indicated that they were often fraught with heteronormative assumptions and biases, leaving the conclusions questionable at best. This dissertation used Amedeo Giorgi’s (2009) qualitative methodology of Descriptive Phenomenology in order to explore the essence of the experience of female same-sex marriage. The article examines the legal framework of public contracting in the EU. It argues that while European public procurement law explicitly allows for measures to foster gender equality be taken into account in public tendering, European legislation and jurisdiction also impose limits to the range of these measures.

The research inquires into the reception that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community receive in general, especially transgender people in particular. Different scholars and researchers have pointed out that the states have not legislated adequately or have entirely failed to legislate protection for the rights of transgender people. Other scholars have equally pointed out that there is segregation and discrimination against transgender people at the collegiate level. "I'M Man Enough; Are You?": The Queer (Im)Possibilities Of Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, Z Nicolazzo

Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a national program that has become a staple program to engage college males in sexual violence prevention on many college campuses. In this manuscript, I use queer theory and crip theory—a conceptual framework that merges queer and critical disability theory—to explore both the positive outcomes and potential harm done in the production and implementation of this event. I conclude the manuscript with considerations for educators seeking to engage college students in critical praxis around ending sexual violence on campus. Transgender individuals have faced and continue to face misunderstanding and severe discrimination in society and in accessing the provision of healthcare. Two nursing faculty at a Jesuit university addressed this issue in a Jesuit community dialogue supported by a Jesuit grant. This dialogue was framed within Jesuit teachings and was consistent with the value of social justice, something fundamental to both the profession of nursing and Jesuit teachings. Three transgender individuals and a Jesuit priest each spoke of their personal experience and then opened the dialogue up for questions. The implicit acceptance among educators and in institutions of learning that discussions around LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) issues are off limits perpetuates the marginalization of these identities and those who inhabit them. In K-12 schools and college classrooms the prevailing silence sends disturbing messages about the treatment of adults and children when their sexual orientation fails to fit neatly into prescribed binary classifications. As one who has been silent as well as silenced, I understand this dichotomy from a unique perspective. Musselman Library’s LGBTQ Research Guide, established in 2012, is a resource that goes beyond connecting the library’s collections with the campus community and providing access. This research guide has generated opportunities to grow campus partnerships, foster a student’s interest in librarianship, and create a gateway for research and learning in the LGBTQ community that goes beyond the classroom. In our presentation we will outline the project from its early days as a student project to its current life as collaboration between the library and Gettysburg Colleges’ Office of LGBTQA Advocacy & Education.
