In addition to the birth and development of “Imperial Way Zen,” late Meiji Japan witnessed the emergence of a number of young lay Buddhist scholars, priests and activists who attempted, with varying success, to reframe Buddhism along progressive and occasionally radical political lines. While it is true that groups such as the New Buddhist Fellowship (Shin Bukkyō Dōshikai, 1899–1915) were made up mainly of young men associated with the two branches of the Shin (True Pure Land) sect, several of its members did affiliate themselves with Zen, such as Suzuki Daisetsu (1870–1966) and Inoue Shūten (1880–1945). This article explores a set of shared challenges that tend to emerge for East Asian Librarians in working with Buddhist studies materials. It outlines how Buddhist linguistic conventions can give rise to an unpredictability in reference work, how its historical textual practices can complicate collections development, and how Buddhist temple archive management can make traditional approaches to research advising unreliable. It also proposes that these challenges provide distinct opportunities for collaboration across Chinese, Japanese, and Korean areas of bibliographic coverage. Abstract: Censorship has become more prevalent in Chinese cultural and social life since the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre. Modern commentary on Chinese censorship focuses on news media and Internet, but neglects print books, which is part of a broader crackdown on dissent. To fill this gap, the project aims to map the contours of book censorship in China during the past 30 years. The idea of potentiality runs through Giorgio Agamben’s political philosophy. In his analysis of Herman Melville’s Bartleby, the Scrivener, Agamben thoroughly interprets potentiality and bare life through Bartleby’s “I prefer not to”. Agamben believes that Bartleby’s inoperativeness is the highest form of resistance, which exists as pure potentiality against the power apparatuses in modern society. Agamben considers Bartleby’s inoperativeness as the exact way to redeem bare life in modern society, where the state of exception already becomes normality. Confucianism is not only a historically important belief system, but it also continues to be rooted in many societies today, particularly in East and Southeast Asia. The growing influence of some of these Confucian-ingrained societies on the international stage justifies expanding the limited literature present on Confucianism and its societal implications. Using a conceptualization of heavily influenced Confucian societies previously set out by earlier research, this paper evaluates the validity of the common age-old assumption that Confucianism is correlated with greater gender inequality, as determined by the World 2016 dataset. Upon its release in 1987, the Hong Kong blockbuster A Chinese Ghost Story resulted in sequels, adaptations, and two remakes in 2011 and 2020. Despite its popularity, only a few critics have noticed its eclectic representations of Chinese religions, nor has there been any evaluation of its pedagogical potential. In modern Western thought, pantheism remains a powerful if controversial undercurrent. Recent re-evaluations of the work of Baruch Spinoza (1632–1677) point to pantheism’s radical implications for metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and politics. Pantheism (Jp. hanshinron 汎神論) also has significant valence within Japanese Buddhist modernism, particularly in the work of scholars and lay activists who articulated the outlines of a New Buddhism (shin bukkyō 新仏教) from the 1880s through the 1940s. 臨近九七，在歷史鎂光燈的照耀下，圍繞著回歸命題的香港文學研究蔚然成風；走過2014年的社會動盪，香港文學與社會關懷的傳統課題重啟，漸成研究的焦點。然而，介乎兩者之間的一段時期，受限於好像「什麼都沒有發生」的表徵，一直未受到研究者廣泛的關注。故本文提出1997-2014年為「迷霧時期」的時間概念，結合霍米．巴巴（Homi K. Bhabha）的「邊界」（boundary）觀念，試圖相對立體地展現出這時期香港文學的發展面貌，並延伸至對文化身分（cultural identity）的思索。巴巴提出「揉雜」（hybridity）和「超越」（beyond）等概念，視「邊界」為突破傳統二元對立框架的流動文化觀念，有助我們思考文學與身分的複雜性。本文以「邊界」為方法，分別討論陳冠中、黃碧雲和韓麗珠三位代表不同年代和面向的香港當代重要作家的小說作品。陳冠中一章環繞「國籍」與「城籍」的「邊界」；黃碧雲一章聚焦「世界」與「本位」的「邊界」；韓麗珠一章關注「個人」與「社會」的「邊界」，每章各有側重的同時，共同編織橫跨三層維度的「邊界」網絡，立體地展現出「迷霧時期」香港文學的各種面向。總結是次研究所得，以「邊界」為方法有效地呈現出「迷霧時期」香港文學的發展面貌，勾勒出不同年代的作家在回歸後探尋「位置」的異同，補足了這時期香港文學研究的空白，並以文學的獨特視角，豐富對文化身分的討論。在邊緣性的文化身分的基礎上，陳冠中、黃碧雲和韓麗珠分別呈現出對回歸後香港前景的不同展望，從審慎樂觀到悲觀，立體地呈現出「迷霧時期」文化身分的複雜性。

This episode discusses the differences in tonal patterns between wujue and qijue, which had a clear impact on poetic practice. After the Tang, wujue became increasingly rare; we can conclude that poets no longer saw creative potential in the form—the great Tang writers had exhausted it. Although a small number of Six Dynasties heptasyllabic quatrains are extant, and Early Tang poets experimented with the form, stylistically mature qijue poetry was an invention of the High Tang poets, most notably Wang Changling and Li Bai. Qijue developed along with Tang popular music, for which it was the major song form. The Chinese equivalent term of quatrain, i.e., jueju, literally means “cut-off lines.” It was believed by many critics that this meant the wujue and qijue forms had originated as quatrain segments cut from the eight-line lüshi forms. This episode begins with close readings of representative poems to provide readers a sense of the thematic scope and aesthetic potential of jueju. A detailed examination of common jueju features then follows.
