(RKEI) was contracted by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (CLIENT), to conduct archaeological monitoring for proposed improvements to the Cleveland-Partlow House, Liberty, Liberty County, Texas. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a Recorded Texas Landmark, and documented as archaeological Site 41LB84. The project proposed to alleviate drainage issues around the house through the excavation of a wide, shallow trench in which geofabric and river gravels were placed along the perimeter of the house to divert water and install new support piers below the house. The Pearson site (41RA5) in the Blackland Prairie of East Texas is one of a number of aboriginal archaeological sites recorded during a 1957 archaeological survey of the flood pool of then proposed Lake Tawakoni on the Sabine River; the site is now inundated. The Pearson site was located on several low sandy rises across ca. 25 acres in the Hooker Creek-Sabine River floodplain, and these rises had both aboriginal and European artifacts on the surface. Johnson and Jelks, and Duffield and Jelks have argued that the Pearson site was the Tawakoni-Yscani village visited by a Spanish missionary in 1760 …

Palo Duro Canyon has been an important locale for human occupation with its distinct topography, fauna, and flora from the Paleoindian inhabitants to those of the Historic Period. There is archeological evidence of human habitation at Palo Duro Canyon throughout the past 12 millennia. Native Americans who lived in and around the canyon had access to resources not easily found on the adjoining upland plains. The canyon provided an abundance of sheltered camping and year-round supply to water, wood, stone tool materials, game, and wild plant resources. Boca Chica Beach spans the south Texas coast in Cameron County for a distance of roughly 12 kilometers between Brazos Santiago Pass and the mouth of the Rio Grande River at the Texas and Mexican border. More than 165 historic ships have been reported lost along the south Texas coast in this general area and at least four, or portions thereof, have been discovered so far. In October 2018, AmaTerra Environmental conducted an archeological survey of drainage detention ponds associated with the proposed expansion of FM 1960 from Wilson Drive to Astascosita Shores Drive in Harris County, Texas. The project was conducted in behalf of TxDOT under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 8952. Fieldwork entailed visual inspection and shovel testing at four of five detention pond locations. Two additional detention ponds were assessed through archival research and visual inspection and found to have no potential for archeological resources. AmaTerra excavated 28 shovel tests–none of which contained cultural materials. No archeological sites were documented and this report recommends …
