Proposal

The following proposal is a design contract for the master planning, development and interior design services for the building on the corner 8th and P in the Haymarket District in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Haymarket District is an active, vibrant, historical area within the city of Lincoln and draws in people of all ages and cultures to this neighborhood. Local gift shops, restaurants, bars, and small businesses culminate this area. To attract more people to this district, I propose to add a boutique salon/spa, a boutique retail store, office space, and loft-style apartments.

This paper presents results of a study of projected costs for a grid-connected PV system for domestic application in Ireland. The study is based on results from a 1.72kWpPV system installed on a flat rooftop in Dublin, Ireland. During its first year of operation a total of 885.1kWh/kWp of electricity was generated with a performance ratio of 81.5%. The scenarios employed in this study consider: a range of capital costs; cost dynamics based on a PV module learning rate of 2+/-75%; projections for global annual installed PV capacity under an advanced and moderate market growth conditions; domestic electricity cost growth …

Effects Of Building Mechanical System Noise On Worker Performance And Perception, Lily M. Wang

This paper presents results from a number of studies that investigated the effects of noise from building mechanical systems on human task performance and perception.  Three phases of research were conducted, each of which utilized a different set of noise signals produced by building mechanical systems: (1) broadband noise at different levels and spectral qualities; (2) tonal noise conditions; and (3) noise conditions with time-varying fluctuations.  In each phase, at least six different noise signals (many based on in-situ measurements) were reproduced in an office-like setting.  Thirty participants completed tasks (e.g. typing, grammatical reasoning, math) plus subjective questionnaires, while exposed …

This thesis examines the ecclesiastical buildings of the J.A. Dempwolf architecture firm of York, Pennsylvania. The prolific firm brought architecture to small cities and rural areas of central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.

During their tenure, the firm designed over six hundred buildings which included houses, churches, public buildings, hospitals, schools, and businesses; of these eighty-nine were ecclesiastical buildings. Included within this thesis are the survey of forty-five of the designed churches in chronological order by date of design and a list of the remaining forty-four. Thermal conductivity measurement is a quick and easy test for compacted soils. This study presents the results of thermal conductivity testing on silt compacted under standard and modified Proctor efforts. a comparison of moisture content measurements from both lab oven and field oven is also presented and discussed. Measured thermal conductivity was correlated to the bulk density and water content. It is further correlated to Young's modulus and Shear modulus of the compacted silt, which were determined through ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements. Minneapolis’ Midtown Greenway is a 5.5 mile bicycle and pedestrian corridor that replaced a grade-separated railroad line in 2000 and expanded to its current length in 2007. The concept calls for greater integration between the economic, environmental and social aspects of planning and development. The principles of smart growth must be viewed as long-term objectives that take into account the well being of both present and future generations.
