Salvation-themed art environments are a roadside rarity, built out of a strong visionary dedication to God, but the sites are disappearing simply because the work is misunderstood. The historiography on the subject is sparse, trending more toward coffee table books with big glossy pictures than real scholarly endeavors, but the consensus among all has been clear. The sites are a valuable part of the recent American cultural landscape, crossing several scholarly fields - art, architecture, and history - and uniting them into a cohesive preservation movement. IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority

This is the third volume in the series of final reports on the extensive IAA excavations in the Lower City of Maresha during 1989–2000. A short report is given of the excavation of the complexes in which the epigraphic material was found. The epigraphic material includes Semitic ostraca, vessel and ostraca graffiti, and Greek-inscribed altars. Also described here are lead weights, their production, standards and historical implications. The processes of urbanization – economy, sociology and town planning – are explored based on the epigraphic finds, and finally, the ethnic, cultural and historical implications are presented.

An archaeogeophysical survey was carried out in May 2010 using Geonics EM-38 RT and a Malå Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system with a 500 MHz antenna over an 28x26 m grid immediately northeast of the Loring-Greenough house in Jamaica Plain, MA. Three major anomalies were identified. These anomalies have not been ground truthed, but they appear to be archaeological features. First, we suggest that there is builders trench just north of the house. Design of foundations in earthquake prone areas needs special considerations. Shallow foundations may experience a reduction in bearing capacity and increase in settlement and tilt due to seismic loading. the reduction in bearing capacity depends on the nature and type of soil and ground acceleration parameters. in the case of piles, the soil-pile behavior under earthquake loading is generally nonlinear. the nonlinearity must be accounted for by defining soil-pile stiffness in terms of strain dependent soil modulus. a comparison of observed and predicted pile behavior under dynamic loads has attracted the attention of several investigators. the lateral dynamic pile response …
