This document was prepared for the citizens of Berrien Springs and Oronoko Charter Township to inform public debate and policy decisions about opportunities for growth and conservation. The proposals within this document were self-initiated and unsolicited, but are intended to illustrate useful advice and long-term possibilities for actual implementation. They were collaboratively prepared in 2011 by twenty-six Andrews University graduate students and their three professors, who proudly live and practice within the local community.

The health effects associated with exposure to ozone range from respiratory irritation to increased mortality. in this paper, we explore the use of three green building materials and an activated carbon (AC) mat that remove ozone from indoor air. We studied the effects of long-term exposure of these materials to real environments on ozone removal capability and pre- and post-ozonation emissions. a field study was completed over a 6-month period, and laboratory testing was intermittently conducted on material samples retrieved from the field. the results show sustained ozone removal for all materials except recycled carpet, with greatest ozone deposition velocity …

For the past two decades, Northwest Arkansas has experienced rapid growth and increased urban development; population projections see the continuation of these trends (Wiley, 2010). Environmental conditions in the study area make it particularly sensitive to the effects of urban development, while existing landscape hazards and nuisance land uses jeopardize the quality of the urban form. Despite these phenomena, there is no comprehensive land use analysis or development management plan for Northwest Arkansas. This study presents a comprehensive environmental analysis of three sub-watersheds within the Illinois River watershed in Northwest Arkansas. Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal

Using 3 axis CNC (computer numerical code) routing processes of the Visualization Lab, the CNC was tested for 3D object milling. The CNC process was designed for manufacturing 2D cut out objects with or without a 3D surface. The processes of modeling the object, using CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) programs, producing the Toolpath, post processing, editing G Code, positioning the stock material, and setting the machine origin were tested for an understanding of what changes had to be made to the process to accurately mill and cut out 3D objects. In 1953, a British architect named Derek H. Matthews introduced the idea of “The Red Sea Style” in print, with a modest article of that title. Although brief and focused on a single site, this article proposed that the architecture around the rim of the Red Sea could be conceived of as a coherent and unified building category. Since then, those who have written about Red Sea port cities have generally accepted his suggestion of a shared architectural culture. The Multi-Dimensional Nature Of Predicting Quality Of Life, James Potter, Rodrigo Cantarero, Heather Wood

Architecture Program: Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity

The array of attributes theorized to impact quality of life (QOL) has sparked research across many fields of study. This multidisciplinary effort has identified influential dimensions such as satisfaction with residence, neighbourhood, economiy, social, and community issues. This study expands upon previous research, creating indices to represent dimensions shown to influence QOL, and then using regression analysis identifies the dimensions most likely to increase perceived QOL. The data indicates the combination of community support and residential satisfaction provides the best model for predicting QOL. This research helps confirm the importance of utilizing a multidimensional approach in the study of QOL.

An Improved Prediction Model For Spacecraft Damage Following Orbital Debris Impact, Joel E. Williamsen, William P. Schonberg

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper offers a new set of 'generic', data-Based hole size and crank length prediction models for spherical orbital debris particles impacting multi-plate targets at velocities up to ~12 km/s. the equations are applicable to a wide variety of spacecraft target configurations, but are limited to hole sizes above, but relatively near, the ballistic limit of the impacting particles. Additional work is underway to expand these models to diameters farther above the ballistic limit for the described shield types.
