The Constructivist framework is an epistemology which posits that “knowledge is a compilation of humanmade constructions”1 not the “neutral discovery of an objective truth.”2 As a fairly broad concept that theorizes how knowledge is acquired, constructivism illustrates our conception of what knowledge is. In-plane behavior of unbonded posttensioned clay brick masonry walls are investigated using detailed finite-element (FE) models. FE models of three walls having different aspect ratios of 1.50, 1.00, and 0.67 are developed. Effects of tendon spacing on in-plane behavior of these walls are investigated using different tendon spacings ranging from 0.61 m (2 ft) to 3.81 m (12.5 ft). In addition, the effects of having different horizontal reinforcement ratios of 0%, 0.1%, and 0.5% on the in-plane behavior of the walls were investigated. Churches are holding worship services in public and private places with greater regularity than some might think. It is not uncommon today to see portable church signs outside of unconventional places on Sundays. In Manhattan in particular, there is a greater need for rentable space as many congregations are struggling to find a permanent home due to density, finances, availability and politics. Asset management is a strategic approach to maintaining and sustaining infrastructure in order to meet the needs of the community at the lowest overall life cycle cost. This approach helps communities know how and where to prioritize limited funds in order to achieve the greatest benefit. Often applied to drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, this method is well suited to managing any assets, including stormwater systems.

The purpose of this study is to understand cultural planning’s current status in the United States. In this study, I used cultural vitality indicators as a tool to evaluate the cultural resources of cities in the United States. I also explored how planners have responded to the concept of creative cities by reviewing the cultural planning activities of the top 60 metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) in the United States. Lastly, I conducted a statistical test to see if an additional department such as cultural affairs, which focuses primarily on cultural planning, positively impacts cultural vitality. The structure is a formal response to the emergent occupation of space at the Kadikoy Sali Pazari. The project generates a permanence for a threatened temporal entity, while creating a system of temporal occupation that reprograms the unbuildable space of the existing site. The tactics and systems employed are largely drawn from the embedded intelligence of Istanbul's temporary markets and the quasi-legality of the cities rapidly expanding gecekondu communities.

It left 650,000 homes damaged or destroyed and caused $65.7 billion in damages in the tri-state area, making it the 2nd costliest storm in U.S. history. This thesis compares and contrasts urban renewal and revitalization strategies in Gary, Indiana and Pullman, Illinois over the past century. These communities were founded under the proposed humanitarian ideals of the model town concept, which was supposed to offer ideal living and employment conditions for working class Americans. Within years of their founding each area reproduced the negative physical and social environment the model town concept was meant to protect against. After decades of neglect these areas sought different urban redevelopment plans to fix their environments. Gary city officials used traditional urban renewal tactics of slum clearance and rebuilding.
