This study examines the relationship between users and open spaces benefits in North Texas. Specifically, it probes the residents' perception of open spaces benefits in master planned communities. The importance of open spaces is indisputable. They encourage the broad range of activity required by our pluralistic urban society with its racial and ethnic groups of all ages, conditions, and needs (Woolley, 2003). To encourage types of activity that help establish a positive pattern of use, landscape architects can develop the form and the character of the open space as a complete subsystem in communities. The senses heightened by plants have proven to be powerful stimulators of early, emotional childhood memories due to the structure and evolution of the human brain (Minter, 2005). For example, Hideo Sasaki and Lawrence Halprin had exposure to other academic fields, like environmental design and architecture (Mann, 2009). According to ASLA: 2013 Survey of Graduating Students data nearly one tenth of the landscape architecture graduate degree recipients had a previous degree in landscape architecture and about one fifth of them had a previous degree in another design or planning field (ASLA, 2013). The objective of this study is to determine the degree to which shale gas drilling contributes to the fragmentation of landscapes in North Texas, especially in prairies. The study is conducted on the Barnett Shale area where shale gas exploration began in the 1980's (Arthur et al. 2008). The Barnett Shale area lies under much of the developed regions of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area as well as beneath an extensive amount of rural countryside mainly used for private recreational lands, exurban residential development, suburbs, and improved pasture and ranching. The consolidation of grout in concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls is labor-intensive. Also, the grout’s Portland cement content has a high embodied energy demand – a non-sustainable characteristic. For the labor-intensive issue, chemical admixture self-consolidating grouts have been used in walls 12.67 ft. (3.86 m) tall, however the chemical additive can impose new limitations on the grout (non-robust characteristics). No admixture self-consolidating grout with high percentage Portland cement replacement have potential for robust and sustainable application. The County owns and manages several open space properties in and around Tijeras Canyon. In previous history, the County has acquired land in a reactionary way to protect natural resources or preserve recreational areas. They have also worked with UNM and other entities to purchase properties for co-management, like the UNM golf course. Building services equipment often produces noise signatures with significant tones in them that can lead to complaints in the built environment. Previous studies have investigated prominence levels of assorted tonal frequencies, but it is still unclear what prominence of the tones across varying tonal frequencies can lead to human annoyance. This project seeks to apply two different methods towards defining annoyance thresholds of tones in noise at two tonal frequencies: 125 Hz and 500 Hz. Providing affordable housing in the United States involves coordination between the federal, state, and local levels of government. Local jurisdictions must ensure that all requirements are met in order to receive funding. In Albuquerque, NM, this includes the production of a Consolidated Plan to satisfy federal requirements, and an Affordable Housing Plan to satisfy state requirements. However, even when the requirements are satisfied, the amount of funding available is never enough to create enough housing to meet the needs of the population. Within the Central New Mexico regional foodshed (i.e. within a 300 mile radius of Albuquerque), many women are working within the local food system to help locally grown food go from farm to fork. In certain roles, women predominate. In others, women are less represented. Women participating in the local food system provided their insights and expertise on how gender affects their own participation, as well as their perceptions of the gender division of labor within the local food system. Through this exploration, eleven women co-participants of this study found that regardless of the role, there are challenges based on …
