Mansoura Engineering Journal
This study introduces an operational evaluation of a deep learning–driven ionospheric modeling system tailored for Egypt, designed to overcome the limitations of conventional empirical approaches in data-sparse regions. The 3D-DNN Ion-EG model was trained on 737,110 COSMIC-2 radio occultation profiles (2020–2024), integrating spatial temporal coordinates with geophysical drivers to generate high-resolution threedimensional electron density distributions. Validation against the MANS CORS station (Mansoura University) demonstrated strong predictive skill (R2 = 0.9337; r = 0.970) under independent testing. Performance analysis across diverse geophysical regimes confirmed the model’s advantage in capturing storm-time and solar-driven disturbances, surpassing empirical models that perform best only under …

Enhancement Of Punching Shear Strength Capacity Of Interior Slab-Column Connections In Flat Slabs By Using Continuous Stirrups, Heba A. Dahroug, Hamed S. Askar, Mohamed E. El-Zoughiby, Mohamed H. Matthana
Mansoura Engineering Journal
The failure caused by punching shear is considered very dangerous because it happens suddenly. So, many researches have presented various methods to enhance the punching shear capacity by adding shear reinforcement like, vertical shear studs, stirrups or other means. In this study continuous stirrups is used as a shear reinforcement system. An experimental test includes four interior slab-column joints, of normal strength concrete, and an analytical study had been carried out to examine the efficiency of the proposed reinforcement system. The finite element analysis had been carried out by using computer program ABAQUS-V13.0 .The final results showed that, using continuous …

Mansoura Engineering Journal
In this work, three methods are proposed to identify parameters of PI controllers used for wind energy conversion systems based on DFIG. Mathematical model of generator and grid side system is depicted. Three tuning methods; bode-plot, pole-placement, and MATLAB tuner are used for grid side and rotor side converter controllers’ design. Wind turbine system with PI controller parameters obtained using the mentioned method is investigated via MATLAB/SIMULINK under three different scenarios. The wind system is subjected to step wind speed change, random wind speed, and sever symmetrical voltage dip in the grid. The handled comparison illustrates that the pole-placement tuning …

Mansoura Engineering Journal
Egypt’s national housing sector faces mounting sustainability challenges due to outdated design and construction practices that cause material waste, high costs, and inefficient resource use. This study develops a framework for integrating modular design and construction principles into Egypt’s National Housing Projects (NHPs) to strengthen their social, economic, and environmental sustainability. A mixed-method approach combined a literature review, case studies, and a survey of Egyptian Architectural Design Firms (ADFs). The literature review revealed a global consensus on the benefits of modular design and construction, such as improved efficiency, reduced waste, and faster project delivery, yet found limited adoption in Egypt …

The Bmt: Will This Time Be Different?: Red Hook Braces For A Mega-Project On The Waterfront. Can It Avoid The Mistakes Of Atlantic Yards?, Steve Kastenbaum
Capstones
"The BMT: Will this time be different?" investigates how New York City's push to rapidly build housing is reshaping communities. A $3.5 billion mega-project at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal promises transformation through 6,000 apartments, a modernized port, and waterfront improvements, but residents are split on whether it represents progress or displacement. The development uses a controversial "general project plan" process that bypasses normal community review, the same approach that enabled the still-unfinished Atlantic Yards project. Local voices in Red Hook range from excitement about investment, jobs and amenities to fears about gentrification and broken promises. This pilot episode launches a …

Lipscomb University Parking Garage Analysis, Morgan Hayes, Reagan Maxwell, Daniel Diaz Tortolero, Dominick Dingus, Michael Ent
Student Scholar Symposium
Many students struggle to easily find parking during the school day at Lipscomb University, and this problem will only be emphasized with the potential removal of the nearby Stokes parking lot (containing 255 spaces). To combat this need and help provide additional room for university growth, we propose the addition of a parking garage west of the Fields engineering building, between Belmont Boulevard and Grandview Drive. This garage would be separated from the current garage behind Fields and be slightly larger, containing about 500 spaces over five levels. We evaluate the current number of parking spaces needed at Lipscomb based …

In dentistry, many diseases, such as gum, cavities, and oral cancer, affect people of all ages. Early treatment and diagnosis are crucial for minimizing dental diseases' effect on overall health and saving money in the long run. Traditional dental diagnosis methods, such as manual probing and visual inspection, are time-consuming and can be subject to human errors. Hence, a computer-aided diagnosis system based on computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques is needed. The considerable progress in computer vision and AI techniques offers many possibilities in dental diagnosis based on dental X-ray imaging modalities. Dental X-rays are used to diagnose …

Crash prediction models are essential for evaluating traffic safety by analyzing crash occurrence, frequency, or severity. Recently, machine learning techniques have gained prominence in statistical regression modeling and data analysis. This study assesses the effectiveness of machine learning in predicting crashes on Egyptian rural multi-lane divided roads using limited regional data. Supervised machine learning ensemble techniques were applied to predict crash-prone segments (classification) and estimate the total number of crashes per segment (regression). A comparative analysis aims to identify the most suitable method. The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) addressed data imbalance, while K-means Clustering (KC) enhanced regression model accuracy, …
