This paper looks at various studies to determine the impact of sustainable design elements on students' learning through researching previous studies and applying positive attributes to a case study of Bush Elementary School located in Essexville, Michigan. The sustainable practices outlined in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) that will be focused on are thermal comfort, lighting, indoor environmental quality, and using the building as a teaching tool. This thesis examines the ways in which Frank Gehry’s architectural contributions to Los Angeles’ social and built environment have shaped the region’s “postmodern geographies” throughout the 20^th and 21^st century. Through a focused exploration of three of Gehry’s postmodernist structures in Greater Los Angeles—a house, a library, and a concert hall—this thesis analyses how Gehry and his designs reflected and affected the artistic and socio-spatial development of Los Angeles’ “decidedly postmodern landscape.”

Ted Lorensen was interviewed by Michael Rupp, Lloyd Chapman, and Jim Knight on October 20, 2017, in Portland, Oregon.

Lorensen was an Assistant State Forester with the Oregon Department of Forestry. He was instrumental in assisting DLCD in amending Statewide Planning Goal 4 (Forest Lands) and establishing land use rules for forest lands.

Cities that were once prosperous face decay and often have no hopeful future outlook. Post-industrial towns face major unemployment and poverty and are not typically places for re-investment. Six males clad only in shorts were exposed to high levels of airborne di(n-butyl) phthalate (DnBP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) in chamber experiments conducted in 2014. In two 6 h sessions, the subjects were exposed only dermally while breathing clean air from a hood, and both dermally and via inhalation when exposed without a hood. Full urine samples were taken before, during, and for 48 h after leaving the chamber and measured for key DnBP and DEP metabolites. The data clearly demonstrated high levels of DnBP and DEP metabolite excretions while in the chamber and during the first 24 h …

The formwork pressure exerted by freshly mixed concrete is one of the most important considerations in ensuring the safety of construction in the field. The formwork pressure also affects the quality of concrete structures, determining the final shape of concrete members. Previous studies on the form pressure mostly investigated the intrinsic material effect. For example, the use of self-consolidating concrete increases the maximum pressure on the formwork. The extrinsic factor of a formwork system itself has rarely been considered. In the mockup tests and theoretical evaluations, it is identified that the bleed water-out controlled by the formwork tightness is critical. …

Energy efficiency retrofit of buildings represents a key effort in reducing EU energy demand by 20% by 2020. However, predictions tend to overestimate savings by large percentages. The shortfall in savings can be attributed to incorrect predictive techniques, comfort takeback along with other behavioural and workmanship variables. Common predictive techniques related to heat loss tend to be based on the U-value of the building envelope.
