As humans, architects have their own prejudices and beliefs, and often times, those can affect their work, particularly when designing such facilities that were historically stigmatized. My thesis looks at one typology in particular - psychiatric centers, formerly known as asylums and mental hospitals. The life cycles of their architecture can be looked at in three parts: their uses, their abandonment and their futures.

They have to learn how to complete basic life skills as any ordinary person would, however, they are not ordinary and to give them the best chance at being successful, additional training would put them at a greater chance to be self sufficient.

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการใช้พื้นที่ของผู้สูงอายุในห้างสรรพสินค้า เพื่อวิเคราะห์พฤติกรรมการใช้พื้นที่ของผู้สูงอายุ นำไปสู่การจัดการพื้นที่ภายในห้างสรรพสินค้าที่เหมาะสมแก่ผู้สูงอายุ ผ่านการใช้วิธีสัมภาษณ์แบบมีโครงสร้างผู้สูงอายุภายที่มาใช้พื้นที่ในห้างสรรพสินค้า สัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับผู้ที่มีส่วนรับผิดชอบในด้านการจัดการพื้นที่ภายในห้างสรรพสินค้า (ผู้ประกอบการ) จากผลการศึกษา พบว่า 1) ผู้สูงอายุเลือกใช้พื้นที่ของห้างสรรพสินค้าเป็นสถานที่ที่มานอกเหนือจากบ้านหรือ Second place โดยพฤติกรรมการมาใช้พื้นที่แตกต่างกันตามจุดเด่นและจุดขายของแต่ละสถานที่ ปัจจัยเรื่องทำเลที่ตั้งของห้างฯ มีผลต่อรูปแบบการเดินทางมาของผู้สูงอายุ ทำให้วัตถุประสงค์ของการมาใช้พื้นที่ของผู้สูงอายุแตกต่างกันออกไปตามแต่ละสถานที่ 2) ผู้สูงอายุส่วนใหญ่เห็นว่าควรจัดให้มีพื้นที่สำหรับผู้สูงอายุในห้างสรรพสินค้า โดยจัดให้เป็นพื้นที่สำหรับนั่งมากที่สุด และเป็นพื้นที่ทางสังคมรองลงมาเพื่อลดความเหงา และโดดเดี่ยว ดังนั้นการจัดการพื้นที่สำหรับผู้สูงอายุในห้างสรรพสินค้าควรพิจารณาประเด็นของพฤติกรรมและความต้องการของผู้สูงอายุควบคู่ไปกับจุดเด่น จุดขายของสถานที่นั้นๆ ผู้ประกอบการตระหนักถึงประเด็นการมาของสังคมสูงวัยและพฤติกรรมนิยมมาใช้พื้นที่ในห้างสรรพสินค้าของผู้สูงอายุ แต่ยังไม่เห็นถึงความสำคัญหรือแรงจูงใจในการพัฒนาพื้นที่ ทั้งนี้ภาครัฐจึงควรออกนโยบายผลักดันและส่งเสริมให้ภาคเอกชนเห็นถึงความสำคัญ สร้างแรงจูงใจในการจัดเตรียมพื้นที่ให้เป็นสวัสดิการพื้นที่ทางสังคมในเมือง ด้วยการรณรงค์ขอความร่วมมือ ลดอัตราภาษีแก่ห้างสรรพสินค้าที่พัฒนาพื้นที่บางส่วนให้เป็นพื้นที่สำหรับผู้สูงอายุ ให้รางวัล เพื่อดึงดูดให้พื้นที่ห้างสรรพสินค้าอื่นๆ นำไปปฏิบัติตาม เพื่อสวัสดิการด้านพื้นที่ทางสังคมนี้จะได้ครอบคลุมทั้งหน่วยงานของรัฐและเอกชน

Goals

The several initiatives described in “Reconnect Nature” seek to preserve and enhance Paradise’s relationship to its setting in a beautiful, yet all too fragile, pine and oak forest. Limiting sprawl, preserving wildlife and natural vegetation, creating parks, and creating buildings that merge with their surroundings – these were all ways to keep the town’s sylvan character.

At the same time, Paradise needed to make sure that calamities like the Camp Fire do not recur. To that end, the natural environment in and around the town needs to be tended: by clearing vegetation around buildings, by creating fire routes through the …

Ali Chen’s Lake Village is a mixed-use workforce housing project, located in the proposed East Village downtown. There are three clusters of housing, each cluster opening onto its own courtyard and creating a mini-neighborhood within the whole. Pathways connect the courtyards with the surrounding streets, which are lined with shops.

Khoa Le’s The Canopy is a mixed-use project located in the proposed East Village downtown. The project is actually four buildings: three of them have apartments sitting atop a commercial base of shops and cafés; the fourth is a one-story farmer’s market. The buildings form an intimate network of pedestrian alleyways and a small plaza, all covered by an airy roof structure, the canopy, which allows for public events and an expanded farmer’s market in the public realm – rain or shine.
