Samuels and Kantarek use the plan for Nowa Huta, a 1949 new town near Krakow, to point out the problems related to the introvert block, particularly walkability, connectivity, and the lack of direct entrances to the residences from the street. The influence of the built environment on people's behavior and performance is a traditional study topic in urban design. In this article, Amir Hajrasouliha discusses the role of the campus physical environment in student perceptions and in their performance and graduation rates through an investigation of 23 CSU campuses and a survey of 446 students. The author demonstrates that both objective and perceived measures are significantly associated with student academic performance.

Open-air museums provide an opportunity for landscape architects to engage with historical and cultural landscapes and collaborate with museums, archaeologists, and historians to create educational resources for the general public. Currently, one of society’s greatest goals is the reduction of greenhouse gases. This goal is generally accepted worldwide, as evidenced by the Paris Climate Agreement, the parties to which agreed to establish frameworks for adopting clean energy and reducing greenhouse gases. After the United States’ controversial decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, the federal government’s future in reducing greenhouse gases remains uncertain. Despite this setback, there are existing programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gases in the United States that the government should ensure succeed. One such program is the Warehouse for Energy Efficiency Loans (“WHEEL”).

The time-averaged flow dynamics of a suspended cylindrical canopy patch with a bulk diameter of D is investigated using large-eddy simulations (LES). The patch consists of Nc constituent solid circular cylinders of height h and diameter d, mimicking patchy vegetation suspended in deep water (H/h ≫ 1, where H is the total flow depth). After validation against published data, LES of a uniform incident flow impinging on the canopy patch was conducted to study the effects of canopy density (0.16 ≤ φ = Nc(d/D)2 ≤ 1, by varying Nc) and bulk aspect ratio (0.25 ≤ AR = h/D ≤ …
