Effect Of Tds On Bacterial Growth In Lebanese Hummus Dip, Maryam Shaheen, Mohammad Nsaif, Jamila Borjac

This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial effect of thiamine dilaurylsulfate (TDS) on Hummus Dip, a traditional Lebanese food. A heat shock step was introduced after hummus cooking and before dip preparation. Lower bacterial counts were obtained even in the absence of any preservative and with better texture compared to non-heat shocked dip. Supplementing the dip with 2% TDS and 1% Malic acid completely inhibited bacterial growth over a period of one month at 4oC. Halt in bacterial growth was confirmed by growth curves. Ferula hermonis (F. hermonis, Fh) is one of the important medicinal-plants cultivated in Lebanon. The aim of this study is to phytochemically-investigate F. hermonis and its most active compound(s) and to explore their neuroprotective potentials utilizing an in vivo model of glycine receptor. HPLC-DAD investigation was done to identify F. hermonis phytochemical constituents. Combined chromatographic, bio-guided fractionation, and in vivo model of glycine receptor were utilized to identify its most active constituent(s). Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a clinical syndrome with diverse pathophysiology. It is associated with increased mortality rate and hospitalization time. Different biomarkers are used for early diagnosis of AKI including Kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1). The aim of this study is to determine the association between KIM-1 gene polymorphism and AKI in Lebanese hospitalized patients. Blood samples were collected from fifty AKI patients and forty controls from the Beqaa and North Lebanon to isolate the genomic DNA. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amplify exon 4. Orange and carrot pomace are considered as food wastes, despite their high content in beneficial health compounds. The comparison of phenolic extracts from orange and carrot pomace, showed higher values for Orange pomace, with a polyphenols concentration (130 mg/L), flavonoids (8.67 mg/L) and tannins (2.5 mg/L). A higher antiradical activity was also noted for orange pomace. However, carrot pomace presented a higher anti-bacterial activity. The beneficial activities of these extracts were owed to their high content in phenolic acids. Our study exhibited that orange and carrot pomace might be utilized as natural preservatives for many industrial applications.

The analysis covers the list of trade and market facilities in Central Asian cities: an open bazaar, a street bazaar attached to it with shopping malls, a bazaar at the crossroads of «Chorsu» streets, covered shopping facilities («tim», «tokhi»), caravanserais , shopping malls, trade and craft suburb- “rabad”.

This paper introduces a new time-resolved spectral analysis method based on Linear Prediction Coding (LPC) method that is particularly suited to the study of the dynamics of EEG (Electroencephalogram) activity. The spectral dynamic of EEG signals can be challenging to analyse as they contain multiple frequency components and are often heavily corrupted by noise. Furthermore, the temporal and spectral resolution that can be achieved is limited by the Heisenberg-Gabor uncertainty principle [1]. This paper describes a time-saving procedure for the removal of prefabricated threaded posts. In this technique, a slit is prepared in the head of the post to-be-removed so that it can be engaged by a jewelers’ precision stainless steel flat-blade screwdriver which would drive it out when rotated counterclockwise. This simple technique spares the clinician valuable time and effort during removal, requires minimal or no loss of valuable tooth structure compared to other techniques. It is also conservative in the sense that it does not expose dental tissue to thermal insults from use of ultrasound.
