Thermal Energy Assessment Of New Constructed Bio-Based Insulation Material Applied In Buildings, Abeer Fuad Othman Dar Saleh
Architectural Engineering Theses
The building sector is moving towards energy-efficient design "low energy consumption". The development of bio-based thermal insulation materials contributes strongly to this approach. The implantation of these materials in the new designed buildings will have an excellent impact in reducing the energy consumption and subsequently saving the non-renewable resources depletion and in decreasing the waste generation.
In this research, the energy performance of a new bio-insulation material prepared from rice will be evaluated. Focusing on its physical and thermal properties such as thermal conductivity and fire reaction evaluation. The developed insulation sample has been made by heating a fixed quantity …

Exploring Conscious And Unconscious Emotional Affordances Of Traditional Versus International Architectural Styles, Ala’ Faleh Ahmad Albdour
Architectural Engineering Theses
This thesis is concerned with investigating the effect of contemporary architectural styles on the human emotion both conscious and unconscious. In particular, it looks at the traditional visual context versus the international visual context within the built environment. United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the countries that has applied little restrictions on the adoption of the architectural styles, the case that makes it an appropriate place to conduct this kind of studies. The main aim of this thesis is to investigate the emotional affordance of a number of participants when they observe a visual context of a ‘Brand Image’ …

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
The article discusses the way the creeds of Protestants are reflected in their sacred architecture on Ukrainian lands. It investigates the evolution of the architecture of Protestant churches and religious buildings in Ukraine from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century. Three periods in the formation and development of Protestantism in Ukraine are distinguished: the magisterial reformation, the classical currents of Protestantism (Calvinism, Lutheranism), and late Protestant currents (Baptism, Pentecostalism, Adventism). The article establishes that the church architecture of Protestant denominations in each of these periods was influenced by the particular teachings of the Protestants themselves, the dominant political ideology, and …

Construction Management
The objective of my senior project is to find a solution for the growing amount of improperly disposed cigarette butts on our planet. To accomplish this, I created and tested concrete cylinders mixed with different amounts of used cigarettes. It is my goal that we will be able to recycle cigarette butts and incorporate them into our everyday concrete use. By adding cigarettes to our mixes, I also understand their will be concerns with its potential strength. However with this in mind, it is my intention that these current mixes will only be used for non-structural concrete. In the following, …

Building Integrated Photovoltaics: Barriers And Drivers In The United Arab Emirates, Daniel Efurosibina Attoye
Dissertations
Buildings consume about 40% of the total annual energy produced globally; however, under the extreme hot climate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this reaches almost 80%. From an architectural perspective, this study focuses on Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) as a multi-functional, innovative solar technology that provides on-site renewable energy. Researchers affirm that BIPV has the potential to convert the building from a consumer of energy, to a producer of renewable energy while advancing net-zero targets, and maintaining building aesthetics, functionality, and structural stability. Along with other technical and economic benefits, BIPV can also contribute towards advancing the global energy …

The housing sector in Kosovo is facing the same challenges as other post-communist countries during the transition period. The migration of the population from rural areas to suburban urban areas, led to the development of rapid trends in the construction of residential buildings in co-ownership. The lack of capacities in the relevant municipal directorates for fast provision of sustainable urban planning, led to the construction of many residential buildings in co-ownership, without construction conditions and without construction permits. Institutional delays in establishing and harmonizing procedures in the planning and construction process, such as the Municipal Development Plan, Urban Development Plan, …

The demolition scene with explosives of the Pruitt-Igoe 1 buildings in St. Louis, Missouri, was part of the American experimental documentary film "Life out of Balance". The complete and utter destruction of a massive modern housing project seen in the video inspired me to search for the truth behind the scenes. Even though designed by Minoru Yamasaki 2 and inspired by Le Corbusier and the CIAM 3 , the Pruitt-Igoe project underwent modifications by public housing authority that eventually resulted in changes during the design and construction phase. Incomplete implementation of Yamasaki's initial design and many subsequent revisions of the …

The care for children is and should be the main part of a society. Successful periods were those that had the same care for children, starting from the family as the main cell of society, followed by school which has been and is the place where children learn and get educated, then also the state and all society institutions that at any case shouldn’t leave the attention for children behind so they can also see the paths of their future. Of course family and school have the main role in this education and teaching, because that’s where everything starts, where …

In the Albanian area, especially in Kosovo, in recent decades there has been construction of houses with the same appearance (projects). The phenomenon of building houses with the same appearance, in addition to the elements of cultural heritage, it also includes elements of social life. The construction of such houses is happening not only because of their appearance, but also to prove social equality, which equality affects the aspect of economic life, namely the preservation of social equality in a close family, or even more wide.
