As sea levels rise, it is imperative to understand the effects of saltwater intrusion on freshwater ecosystems. This is especially true in the coastal wetlands of the SE US, where freshwater forests are dying from exposure to salinity. One management strategy that could prevent salinity intrusion in surface waters are water control structures (WCS). The Great Reserve, located outside of Georgetown, SC, represents a biodiverse freshwater forested wetland affected by saltwater intrusion from the adjacent tidal Black River. The American Disabilities Act (ADA) implemented some good generic standards for accessibility for persons with physical disabilities, but what about universal design for all disabilities? Designing spaces for a Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic involves researching many different types of disabilities that would be treated at the facility. In this essay I discuss how my course attempts to broaden the definition of the American architectural canon by bringing in the discipline of preservation and, by extension the discussion of vernacular architecture. Throughout the course students are given assignments meant to engage with all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. By highlighting specific assignments such as a National Register of Historic Nomination Form, and a student led class discussion on Colonial Williamsburg I will show how students engage with the upper levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Research has shown that Flexible learning spaces have benefits in educational settings. The space has an impact on teachers' pedagogies and mindsets. In turn, instruction can be more student-centered promoting more interaction and engagement with each other and content. Panama is an isthmus in Central America that has been influenced by a multitude of cultures ever since its Spanish colonization. This diversity is reflected in its architectural forms. The modern form seen in Panamanian architecture will be investigated to find its historical roots. Common themes were extracted that link to the past vernacular: Indigenous and Colonial. Building case studies will be looked at to develop an architectural vocabulary that summarizes recurring architectural elements

Millford is a gem of preservation both architecturally and historically. Architecturally Millford is her- alded as one of the finest examples of Greek Revival style architecture in South Carolina, situated in an isolated area surrounded by green fields and lush forests. Historically Millford has three historically significant periods. The first is the Manning Period (circa. 1838-1902), the second is Clark Family Period (1902-1992) and the last and most recent is connected to Richard Jenrette’s stewardship of Millford (1992-2017). Each period included individuals who left an indelible mark on Millford.
