This study examines the importance of digital marketing strategies as a factor of competitive advantage for architectural services firms in Iraq. Interviews are conducted with four architectural firms through a qualitative, interpretive approach. This study imposes that digital marketing strategies on platforms (Facebook, Instagram) lead to awareness of what architectural services are, in addition to examining the role these strategies play in reviving company business opportunities. Furthermore, this study aims to determine the reasons for the weak activity of architectural services companies in Iraq on communication platforms. One of the main reasons seems to be related to a lack of …

The Effect Of The Sound Level Parameter On The Acoustic Performance In Closed Shopping Centers, Shayma Hameed, Kais Abdulhusein Abbas
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
The study focused on the objective measurement method of the sound level parameter, the geometrical formation, the observation of some acoustic properties, and their effectiveness for the atrium space in the Baghdad and Babylon shopping malls. In this study, a measurement of the sound level parameter was carried out to evaluate their acoustic performance and compare them with the standard standards required to be achieved in such buildings. The measurement process was conducted using a portable device SL-4112P that measures the sound level parameter SPL (A) and at a point on each floor around the atrium in both shopping centres …

Covid-19 And Public Spaces: Improving Quality And Resilience For Healthier Places Case Study Liberty Square In Biskra, Hocine Boumaraf, Faiza Dahmouche, Louisa Amireche
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
The current Covid-19 pandemic has interested the world, changing habits and use of places. During the lockdown period, public spaces became empty, and new urban landscapes replaced the previous ones, transforming the private into the public. Children, young and elderly people were those who mainly had problems: to them, real life was negated at the time of their life, which is more critical reopening all public spaces once again allowed social interactions “in the presence”, although with respect for physical distancing, confirming the importance of these places for all. Safe urban public spaces are essential due to their public health …

Formal Activation Through Complexity Characteristic, Media Adel, Khansaa Ghazi Rasheed, Rana Mazin
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Formal developments were characterized by different concepts, one of which was complexity, which affects the architecture because of its association with ambiguity and differentiation. The research begins with the definition of the complexity property. Then, the study discussed complexity as a design characteristic in terms of its phenomena and touched on the dimensions of complexity in the residential environment. The research problem is a need for knowledge about the property of complexity in the forms of buildings and what is related to their design dimensions in residential environments. The goal of the research was to identify the important vocabulary in …

Treatments Of Sustainable Preservation In Heritage Buildings: Reviews The Treatments That Can Improve The Preservation Of Heritage Buildings, Ula Faris Haider, Mustafa Kamil Kadhim
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Heritage buildings result from human cultures and are a significant expression of civilization and cultural thought. It has become part of our lives, and informatics has become in all areas of life; it has a real place in human production and affects the present and future. From here, it was necessary to think about how to preserve the heritage buildings and their protectors in a way that suits the requirements of the present era and preserve them for future generations by introducing sustainable development and its fields to conservation operations. Minimal sustainable conservation operations are using modern technologies without compromising …

The deviation is a phenomenon of life before it is an important phenomenon in creative and artistic processes within different fields. Including the field of architecture, where the designer resorted to it to form a new architectural product that goes beyond the rules and direct, explicit connotations, achieving poeticism, uniqueness, and excellence in its production. Given the importance of the concept and its role in the formation of contemporary architectural production. The research went on to explore it, identifying its research problem b: cognitive deficiencies around indicators of semantic structure that include displacement in architecture. Still, its goal is to …

The Invisible Articulations In The Architecture Of Local Churches (Catholic Churches As A Case Study), Raneen Wisam, Asmaa M. H. Al- Moqaram
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Christian architecture was characterized within its various types by a set of unique design characteristics at the level of space organization, facades, and mass formation. The previous knowledge was concerned with church architecture and put forward the concept of invisible articulation through the sequence of movement of the user of space through devotional rituals (liturgy). A research problem is the lack of clarity on the nature of compatibility within the invisible details in the architecture of contemporary local Iraqi churches from the traditional. The hypothesis is that the compatibility between the invisible details in the architecture of the traditional local …

Improving Social Interaction In Vertical Housing, Lubna A. Kadhim, Mufeed Ehsan Shok
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Iraq is witnessing an increasing population growth and an influx of migration from the countryside to the city. With the lack of urban lands, vertical housing has become the final solution to this problem. However, until recently, Iraqis have rejected vertical housing, and perhaps the most important reasons are social reasons. Through previous studies, it was found that the problem of social interaction is one of the most prominent problems in vertical housing. Thus, residents of vertical residential buildings achieved lower rates of social interaction than residents of single apartment buildings. The research uses a descriptive analysis method based on …

Topological Characteristics Of An Architectural Product, Ahmed Maher Rashid, Abdullah Saadoon Salman Almaamoori
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Topology or spatial science is one of the branches of modern mathematics that cast a shadow over various cognitive sciences, including architecture, as it began to overgrow in the contemporary digital age to make room for more creativity and structural design and implementation capabilities. Yet, the characteristics of this concept are still uncommon in the architectural community and the previous studies that dealt with it in fragmentary and separate concepts. Accordingly, the research problem is “the ambiguity of knowledge about the topological characteristics of contemporary architectural products.” The research seeks to form a comprehensive theoretical framework on the topological characteristics …

Design Determinants Of Discrete Digital Surfaces, Ali Mohsen Jaafar Al-Khafaji, Shahad Alaa Soud
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
The emergence of many free structures in contemporary architecture and the transformation in aesthetics toward complex curved and folded shapes has led to a search for computer-aided design and geometric manipulations using discrete surfaces, which contributed to the creation of complex architectural surfaces that are both simple and economical at the same time. However, it is difficult to achieve such surfaces because of the complexity of representing them in an applicable and executable engineering body , and the hardship of studying and representing them structurally for they need a set of special engineering programs to obtain the required structural strength. …

The Role Of Urban Memory In Reviving The Place ( Al-Rasheed Street Is A Case Study ), Hanan Salim, Mufeed Ehsan Shok
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
The concept of urban memory is one of the concepts that has received increasing attention in recent periods as countries race to form their own identity. The existing literature focused on the definition of urban elements in general and how to preserve buildings and exploit their memory to operate the building. Through this, the need for knowledge appears to detail these elements, as the research problem was chosen through (lack of) a clear perception of the role of urban memory elements in reviving the place. The research goal emerged (exploring and categorizing the urban memory elements first, the criteria for …

Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh is extremely populated, unhygienic and environmentally degraded city. The growing number of population and environmental degradation are due to natural disaster and economic depression. As a result, the rate of urban poor is and producing huge pressure on urban lands, housing and infrastructure. Due to limited resources these poor people encroached open spaces, wetlands, vacant plots or even footpath for shelter. They don’t have any access to proper job market, healthcare facilities, education and sanitation either. These constraints are mostly resulted from the failures of the government in initiation proper policies and measures. Past …
