The elderly population (65 years of age and older) is one of the fastest growing populations in the US. A major public health concern involving the elderly population is unintentional injuries in the home. Since elderly adults typically spend the majority of their time in the home, minimizing unintentional home injury hazards is crucial for this population. The Nevada Healthy Homes Partnership (NHHP) program is a grant funded effort that helps to improve the quality and availability of safe and healthy homes in Nevada. The artist's process in which she examines the built environment through the medium of black and white photography. By tracing the trajectory of her awareness of architecture from her early career as a dancer, to the making of photographic images, the artist illuminates the process of deconstructing architectural and pictorial space into fragmented yet illusionistically convincing photographic montages. Influenced by the urban localities in which she dwells, she tells the story of being captivated by the post-industrial landscape of Williamsburg, Brookyn, NY, followed by landing in New Orleans and her fascination with post-Katrina architecture. The structure of this thesis relies on the physical locations of Mme. de Pompadour. Although the chapters are roughly chronological, beginning with her arrival at Versailles in 1745 and ending with her death in 1764, this work makes no attempt to comprehensively chronicle the entirety of her involvement in the decorative arts. Rather, it focuses on several specific aspects of her patronage, with the goal of illuminating her social position and public image, and how she worked to control the two. This report presents the findings of scoping study into the potential application of hemp lime biocomposite as a construction material in Irish context. The research was carried out under STRIVE funding administered under the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) examining the state of play of hemp lime in construction toward assessing its potential application in Ireland.

The research involved a range of methods, mainly qualitative, including significant literature review and extensive collation of data on hemp lime performance and testing data, semi structured interviews and field work / review of key case studies in Ireland, UK and Europe.

Using 3 axis CNC (computer numerical code) routing processes of the Visualization Lab, the CNC was tested for 3D object milling. The CNC process was designed for manufacturing 2D cut out objects with or without a 3D surface. The processes of modeling the object, using CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) programs, producing the Toolpath, post processing, editing G Code, positioning the stock material, and setting the machine origin were tested for an understanding of what changes had to be made to the process to accurately mill and cut out 3D objects. Autodesk Revit Architecture as one of BIM applications has shown recent improvements in creating complex forms in conceptual design phase. These improvements have been published lately in reports (Autodesk 2010; Autodesk 2009) and books (Krygiel et al. 2010). The presented abilities were introduced within a general scope, and they were not examined in detail with various generative design approaches. The generalization and the ambiguity of these publications lead designers to avoid using Revit in conceptual design phase, and use other 3D modeling softwares that are more compatible with their way of thinking.
