The purpose of this research is to study the visual design elements of stream daylighting through a visual preference survey and apply them to a site along the Mill Creek flowline in Dallas, Texas. This research begins with a study on identifying a specific site location within the Mill Creek watershed. From that study, a visual preference survey determined which visual design elements of stream daylighting were found to be the most desirable. The paper presents a new initiative, EcoScience + Art, which blooms at George Mason University. The creator explains the background, history, and recent activities of the initiative, and also introduces an on-going special project called “The Rain Project”, a student participatory project to design, construct, and monitor a green infrastructure (i.e., floating wetland) for sustainable stormwater management on campus. The special project is geared to design and present a new paradigm to integrate college education, scholarship, and service. The relevance of the initiative and the special project to STEAM education is discussed.

The letter, from committee chairman Mrs. Charles D. Greer, laments the neglect of the tomb of President Zachary Taylor near Louisville, Kentucky, and outlines the Committee’s intent to construct an entrance to a “Memorial Lane” leading from Brownsboro Road to the monument at the cemetery in which Taylor is interred.

Through a review of literature on the topic, this the paper identifies the potential design has to renovate narrow streets and alleys, within the public right of way. By preforming an assessment of plans and programs, this paper identifies the common themes or components that have been used by planners, architects, and engineers to improve the urban environment for pedestrians. Under predictions of sea level rise in the next hundred years, this thesis looks at South Boston as an experiment for coastal community development in response to the rising water. South Boston shares issues facing many other coastal communities, including potential risk of flooding and adaptive beach occupations. This body of work primarily investigates innovative strategies to work with the rising water and form sand dunes that will protect the neighborhood from daily floods in 2100, continue providing secure access to the beach, and encourage new public engagements at the waterfront.

Developing countries, such as those in Sub-Saharan Africa, could benefit from the services that landscape architects provide for society and the built environment. This research addresses where the profession of landscape architecture currently is in Sub-Saharan Africa and speculates where it could go in the future. Public art is justified and sold based on a variety of purported public benefits, including spatial identity, enhanced use, and improved value. Very little research has been done to quantify these or any other large-scale impacts. In this study, the relationships between land value and public art are examined. Denver, Colorado was chosen as the area of study due to its extensive library of accessible data and its active public art program.
