The purpose of this research is to examine perceptions of conservation subdivisions as habitat for urban carnivores in North Central Texas suburbs. This research was conducted through the University of Texas at Arlington; Landscape Architecture Program. The literature review examines the history of conservation subdivisions and their use within North Central Texas as well as their application as an ecological solution to present-day threats to biodiversity with a focus on mammalian apex carnivores. This study demonstrates the role recreational amenities play in contributing to the brand identity and sense of place in Utah master planned communities (MPCs). These MPCs are designed to enable residents to live, work, and play within close proximity within a styled built environment. While the built environment is often branded with a particular identity, these identities resonates with other attributes of the community, including recreation amenities. The study focused on MPCs along the Wasatch Front in Utah, since Utah’s population, along the Wasatch Front, is expected to double by 2050 (Envision Utah, n.d.). In recent decades, landscape design theory has been affected by an increase in pro-environmental values. Largely, this trend has been associated with notions of ‘sustainability’ and ‘ecosystem services.’ These notions involve sustaining current human behaviors within the constraints of ecological limits and maximizing the benefits that humans receive from ecosystems, respectively. In this way, they involve high evaluations of the instrumental values of ecosystems, yet remain predominantly anthropocentric. As such, they are characteristic of shallow ecology worldview.

Gaining access to transportation is essential for obtaining employment, education, healthcare, and social interaction. Individuals who face difficulties in gaining this access are considered ‘transportation disadvantaged’ and include individuals of lower socioeconomic status, aging individuals, and persons with disabilities. In our autodependent society, individuals with disabilities face even fewer opportunities to interact within their communities. In order to better understand how individuals with disabilities are limited by their access to transportation, two studies were conducted.

Site, to an architect, should comprise not only the topographical and physical markers of the place, but also the cultural, historical, atmospheric, ritualistic, or intangible qualities of place. New projects ask us to examine what has preceded the proposed architecture and invite it into the work that we place on a site—not ignoring the past, mowing it down, or covering it up—but allowing it to point us in the direction of an architectural intervention. For several decades, Geographic Information Systems (GISs) have held center stage in archaeological studies of ancient landscapes. Recently, three-dimensional (3D) technologies such as airborne LiDAR and aerial photogrammetry are allowing us to acquire inordinate amounts of georeferenced 3D data to locate, map, and visualize archaeological sites within their surrounding landscapes. GIS offers locational precision, data overlay, and complex spatial analysis. Three-dimensionality adds a ground-based perspective lacking in two-dimensional GIS maps to provide archaeologists a sense of mass and space more closely attuned with human perception. This paper explores the history of this structure by examining the legends, myths, and facts behind it and the surrounding land. The myths and legends are linked to Ireland’s old Celtic beliefs and explain much of the interesting landscape surrounding the massive structure. The Freeman Performing Arts Center marks the threshold between prairie and civic life. This small agricultural community of 1,300 has an outsized Anabaptist music tradition recognized nationally. The 37,000 sf hall-type building unifies a miscellaneous collection of public buildings and landscapes at the southwest corner of the town’s one-mile grid. The center’s massing projects an ascending system of familiar gable roofs, which absorb the fly tower into a composition reflective of pragmatic building forms. The principal face of the building is a translucent curtain wall that illuminates interior massing—a beacon on the prairie. A thru-Porch celebrates transitions between the prairie’s …

Illegal building can take multiple forms, including squatter settlements and illegal building extensions. Among the various forms of illegal building, illegal microapartments (IMAs), which take the form of unauthorised subdivided housing units, have recently aroused wide public concern in Hong Kong. On account of their unlawful nature, IMAs pose serious threats to the safety of local communities by undermining structural stability and fire safety in buildings. They may also adversely affect natural lighting and ventilation for building occupants. Since its inception, Utah State University's Bioregional Planning Program has conducted landscape-level planning studies across Utah, specifically addressing planning for the future. Antibiotics are added to agricultural fields worldwide through wastewater irrigation or manure application, resulting in antibiotic contamination and elevated environmental risks to terrestrial environments and humans. Most studies focused on antibiotic detection in different matrices or were conducted in a hydroponic environment. Little is known about the transfer of antibiotics from antibiotic-contaminated irrigation wastewater and animal manure to agricultural soil and edible crops. In this study, we evaluated the transfer of five different antibiotics (tetracycline, sulfamethazine, norfloxacin, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol) to different crops under two levels of antibiotic-contaminated wastewater irrigation and animal manure fertilization. คลองสมถวิลถือว่าเป็นสายน้ำแห่งชีวิตที่อยู่กับชาวเมืองมหาสารคามมาตั้งแต่อดีต คลองสมถวิลเดิมเป็นคลองระบบคันคูดินที่ถูกสร้างขึ้น เพื่อวัตถุประสงค์ทางการเกษตรกรรมและเป็นพื้นที่กักเก็บน้ำของเมือง และสร้างความสวยงามด้านภูมิทัศน์เมือง ปัจจุบันคลองสมถวิลเป็นพื้นที่ขยายตัวทางเศรษฐกิจ กล่าวได้ว่าการเจริญเติบโตของเมืองมหาสารคามส่งผลกระทบต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางกายภาพของพื้นที่และบทบาทของคลองสมถวิลจากเป็นแหล่งน้ำเพื่อการเกษตรกรรมสู่คลองระบายน้ำทิ้งของเมือง บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาบทบาทและความเป็นไปได้ในการฟื้นฟูบทบาทคลองสมถวิลสู่แนวทางที่เหมาะสม
ขั้นตอนการศึกษามีทั้งหมด 4 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1) การเก็บรวมรวมข้อมูลเอกสารของพื้นที่ศึกษา เพื่อทราบถึงบริบทของพื้นที่โดยรวมและเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนาม 2) การเก็บข้อมูลคุณภาพน้ำในคลอง เพื่อนำไปสู่การวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างคลองกับการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดิน 3) การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก ให้เห็นถึงทัศนคติและข้อคิดเห็นส่วนหนึ่งของผู้ที่อยู่อาศัยในพื้นที่ ต่อภาพเชิงซ้อนทับภาพถ่าย (photomontage) เพื่อใช้จำลองภาพแนวทางการฟื้นฟูบทบาทของพื้นที่ศึกษาให้ผู้ถูกสัมภาษณ์เห็นภาพร่วมกัน 4) สรุปข้อมูลและอภิปรายผลพร้อมข้อเสนอแนะ
ผลการศึกษาพบว่าจากสภาพที่เสื่อมโทรมของคลองสมถวิลในปัจจุบัน อันเป็นผลมาจากการพัฒนาและการปรับตัวของเมือง ทำให้ชาวเมืองเล็งเห็นประโยชน์ในการพัฒนาคลองสมถวิลสู่คลองที่มีบทบาทในเชิงนันทนาการ สามารถตอบรับกับการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินโดยรอบที่เปลี่ยนแปลงอยู่ตลอดเวลา โดยได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากกระแสการพัฒนาจากเทศบาลที่ได้นำแนวคิดจากกรณีศึกษาในต่างประเทศเข้ามาฟื้นฟูบทบาทนี้ แต่การเปลี่ยนแปลงคลองสมถวิลสู่บทบาทสู่บทบาทในเชิงนันทนาการที่มีความทันสมัยเพียงอย่างเดียวดูเหมือนจะละเลยคุณค่าของคลองสมถวิลที่แท้จริง บทสรุปของวิทยานิพนธ์นี้จึงได้มีการกำหนดบทบาทให้แก่คลองสมถวิลสู่บทบาทที่บูรณาการการเป็นคลองรับน้ำเชิงประวัติศาสตร์ของเมืองเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ควบคู่ไปกับบทบาทเชิงนันทนาการสมัยใหม่ ซึ่งการตระหนักถึงคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์เหล่านี้เป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญต่อความเป็นตัวตนของเมืองมหาสารคาม ท้ายที่สุดแนวทางการฟื้นฟูนี้จะดำเนินการร่วมไปกับบทบาทในแต่ละย่านของคลองสมถวิลผ่านการแสดงออกถึงความเป็นท้องถิ่นสู่ความยั่งยืนของเมืองมหาสารคามต่อไป
