A Counselor's Integration Of Thomism With The Philosophies Of B.F. Skinner & Albert Ellis, Leonard Alvey Sep 1976

A Counselor's Integration Of Thomism With The Philosophies Of B.F. Skinner & Albert Ellis, Leonard Alvey

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Religious counselors tend to neglect theorists who oppose religion. B. F. Skinner and Albert Ellis implicitly and explicitly criticize religion in their published writings. These criticisms are connected with their atheistic philosophies. Thomism is a theistic philosophy endorsed by the Catholic Church. Karl Rahner and Bernard Lonergan have integrated Thomism with contemporary thought. Their works serve as models for this research project--a counselor's integration of Thomism with the philosophies of B. F. Skinner and Albert Ellis.

A counselor can disconnect Skinnerian and Ellisian criticisms of religion from their atheistic philosophies. Viewing the same criticisms in the context of a theistic …

Moving Toward Integration: A Study Of Theory And Practice In Feminist Therapy, Susan Amelia Thomas Jul 1975

Moving Toward Integration: A Study Of Theory And Practice In Feminist Therapy, Susan Amelia Thomas

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis describes a study designed to explore the emerging field of feminist therapy. The goal was not to test the validity of feminist therapy, to probe the assumptions on which it is based, or to compare it to other forms of therapy but to characterize the theory and practice of feminist therapy as it now exists. Feminist therapy was seen as growing out of the cultural and historical context of the feminist movement, which includes a critique of society with emphasis on the particular psychological consequences for women, and a critique of psychotherapy, particularly Freudian psychotherapy, as oppressive to …

The results of a needs assessment and a review of other career education programs, administered by a federally funded career education project in Region 3, Kentucky, indicated that one of the requirements for developing a successful occupational program was to produce sequential career education curriculum materials for all students in the region, kindergarten through post-secondary.

Self-Defeating Characters, Milton R. Cudney Jan 1975

Self-Defeating Characters, Milton R. Cudney

All Books and Monographs by WMU Authors

For some time I have been aware of a need to have additional ways of helping people open up to see what they do to defeat themselves. The need is to help people see, and honestly face, what they do to bring about defeating results in their lives. When people can see what they do to defeat themselves, they are in a better position to make non-defeating choices. The various characters in this book have been created by me to serve as vehicles to fulfill this need. The characters themselves do not represent real individual people, but the information contained …

Paul Tournier's Philosophy Of Counseling As Developed From His Concept Of Person, Laurence H. Wood May 1974

Paul Tournier's Philosophy Of Counseling As Developed From His Concept Of Person, Laurence H. Wood

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

There exists today an increasing interest in the possibility of integrating the fields of psychology and theology for the benefit of man. Such work has already been undertaken by Dr. Paul Tournier. The concepts that Paul Tournier has developed are of particular interest to the Christian community in its inter-personal relationships. While Tournier's concepts are applicable to a broader spectrum, they are nevertheless of particular significance for the Christian community. An understanding of certain of Tournier's concepts and their implementation into one's ministry in the general area of counseling can be of inestimable practical value.
