Two new foraminiferal families are introduced as follows: the Anatoliellidae (type
genus Anatoliella Sirel) in the superfamily Ataxophragmiacea Schwager and the family
Bolkarinidae (type genus Bolkarina Sirel) in the superfamily Orbitoidacea Schwager. Three
new species of Paleocene are described and figured as follows: Ranikothalia polatliensis,
Nurdanella paleocenica, Periloculina yilmazi. In addition, four known Paleocene genera
such as Bolkarina Sirel, Globoflarina Rahaghi, Nurdanella Özgen and Coskinon Hottinger
and Drobne and subfamily Globoflarininae are redescribed.

The existence of a metamorphic basement cut by granitoids is known in the Central Sakarya region of northwest Turkey according to the previous studies. Over this metamorphic basement, there is a Liassic unit which contains ammonite, brachiopod and some benthic foraminifers and has a sequence starting with fluvial deposits at the base and grading into coastal, subtidal and shallow marine sediment character towards the top in the vicinity of Sarıcakaya district, Eskişehir City. The conodont faunas defi ning the delta-pesavis zones (upper Lochkovian, Lower Devonian) were obtained from Beykoz and Karamandere sections of the İstinye Formation (the Yumrukaya group) and the conodont faunas of the laticostatus, serotinus, patulus and partitus zones (upper Emsian-lower Eifelian, Lower-Middle Devonian) were obtained from the Büyükdere and Kokarpınar sections of the Kozyatağı member of the Kartal Formation. A total of 22 species/subspecies were described belonging to the genera Neopanderodus (2), Icriodus (8), Pelekysgnathus (1), Lanea (1), Polygnathus (4), Ozarkodina (2), Pseudooneotodus (2), Belodella (2).

Major differences in foraminiferal assemblages have been observed between the eastern and western coasts on the northern part of the Karaburun Peninsula. In contrast to the rich fauna of the western coast, a poor assemblage was found on the western coast, which is located in the Gulf of İzmir. A great difference in population sizes have also been observed in Amphistegina lobifera Larsen assemblages found on the Aegean coasts of Karaburun Peninsula and Gulf of Izmir. The hot water submarine spring which is located at a depth of 2.50 m on Yıldız Cape, Ilıca Cove (Cesme-Izmir) was investigated for its recent benthic foraminifer assemblage. 38 surface sediment samples have been collected on 3 transects. The Pacific Ocean and the Red Sea originated benthic foraminifers were abundantly observed. The identifi ed species are Nodopthalmidium antillarum (Cushman), Spiroloculina antillarum d’Orbigny, Triloculina fi chteliana d’Orbigny, Euthymonacha polita (Chapman), Coscinospira acicularis (Batsch), Peneroplis arietinus (Batsch), Amphisorus hemprichii Ehrenberg, Sorites orbiculus Ehrenberg, Cymbaloporetta plana (Cushman). During the excavations of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum for the Marmaray Project, which will connect two sides of the Bosphorus by rail tube tunnel, an ancient Byzantine Port (Port of Theodosius) was explored around Yenikapı, district of Istanbul. The aim of the study is to understand the stratigraphical sequence observed in the excavation site, to recognize the traces of natural events observed within the sequence and to reach the geoarcheological data that will provide contribution to the archeological studies by geological findings. Tube worm fossils have been found in the Upper Cretaceous aged massive sulfide deposits of the Eastern Black Sea Region. Similar ones of these tube worm fossils have been found in the massive sulfide deposits of Umman, Cyprus, Ireland and Urals. This fossil community defined in very few massive sulfide deposits in the world is the important evidences of the sea floor hydrothermal vents in Pontids.
